Looking Around

I've been a Christian almost all my life, but it's been a while since I was in church (got sick of the watered down messages) and I'd like to get back into one now that I have a baby. I'm unfortunately a little picky about where I stay and call my church home, but, I'll try just about anywhere once.

Any recommendations? The baby is almost always up by 8:30 in the morning and we live north of the mall so we could probably make it to a 9:30 or later service.

Thanks for the advice in advance!

What can I do next?

I was in the same situation right after we had our children. We fell in love with Granger Community Church. They take you right in and make you feel right at home. There are 5 services to choose from and the kids love it! My kids can't wait to go to bed every Sat. night because they love the children's center over there.
They have a lot of opportunities to get involved if you want, but you don't have to either. The messages and the music are very contemporary and really get to the point.
You can visit the church online to get anymore information- www.gccwired.com.

Good luck!

I'm not sure what area of Christian you are but St. Pius (catholic) on fir and SR 23 is a good church. I don't attend there but my parents know the priest, Fr. Dan, and I heard one of his homily's on Monday when I went to a reconciliation service and it was very thought provoking with a great message. My 10 year old really enjoyed him also. If you want non-denominational then a lot of people like Granger Church. Not sure of the exact name but it's on University Park Drive not far from the Babies R Us shopping area. They supposedly have a good children's program. I would just start picking a new church every Sunday and go until you find one you like. I go to St. Bavo's but that's on the other side of Mishawaka, closer to the Bypass area. Good luck!

There is a pentecostal church that I got to, and its wonderful. Its on the corner of South Ironwood and the bypass.
www.upcofsb.com is the website. It tells the days and times of the services, and the complete address. Info on the pastor, and the church itself. I do hope you come some time.

K.,
We just moved here and April and looked around for Churches too. We found a great community at St. Thomas in Elkhart. They have a wonderful priest who gives terrific sermons, nothing watered down from him. Their music is beautiful. They have a nursery at the 8:45 Mass and will begin to have one at the 11:15 Mass too after the New Year. There is also a cry room in the back if you would rather keep Elena with you. There is an active St. Tom's Moms group that meet once a month for different social activities and we are planning to start up a play group in the New Year. Don't know what you are looking for specifically but we found St. Thomas to be a Parish that we can easily call home and we too are quite picky. Good luck to you and God Bless!

I know that finding the "Right" church for your needs can be very difficult. And I don't believe there is such a thing as the perfect church. A church community is filled with flawed people at different stages in their walk with God and all trying to find thier way. I found a wonderful resource to get back in touch with God, meet other Christian women, and learn about their churches. BSF International is a non-denominational Bible Study that I have attended for the last 8 years. It has been such a blessing to me. I would encourage you to consider looking into it. It will give you a chance to reconnect with a Christian community, and learn about area churches that might fit your families needs. They have a group that meets during the day in South Bend, and an eveing group that meets in Granger. You can find more info about it on their website. www.bsfinternational.org
Don't forget to pray for God to direct you in your search, and He will lead you to the right church community for you.
God Bless you and your family. J. <><
