Today is my 5 th wedding anniversary and my husband and me just realised that we really don't have any Real life friends.I have some online friends all over the country but no one i really care about or share a lot of interest with.We do have lots a people we know but we just haven't seemed to have met the people i would LOVE to hang out with.I am looking for new friends.I live in Flowermound my husband travels for work a lot which means that i get very very lonely .I do work full time.

I would like to make some friends with whom i or we can do more than just eat meals together.
Am i asking for too much.
I think its my new year resolution to make new friends

What can I do next?

Hi S.,

We have similar stories. I've been in the US 8 years and in Dallas 2 years. Originally I'm from Australia. My husband is constantly traveling. I've found it difficult to meet good friends in Dallas too. My personal experience with the groups and clubs mentioned above hasn't been good. I reached out to Moms Club and Mops so I could get to know some others and not be so darn isolated but due to boundary policies and waiting lists so far I haven't been able to get into either. Anyhow if you're looking to get together with some or all of the people above please include me. My e-mail address is ____@____.com

BTW I live in the Hillcrest and Beltline area (Northwood Hills technically)

Hi S.!

First of all, Congratulations on your wedding anniversary:) I hope you and your husband do something special.
Also, cheers to your upcoming arrival! Good friends are hard to find, especially when you work and mangage your home!
Check out this website www.momsclub.org they offer support to mom's who stay at home or work part time out of the home.

Good Luck!

No! You're not asking for too much! People need people!
Check out your local Mothers of Preschoolers group. www.mops.org They usually have a meeting time when working mothers can get together.

Hi S.,

I know what you're talking about. The first few years I was here, I felt I only had a virtual existence. Anyhow, I'm in Frisco. Sometimes, some of us friends go out for a movie or coffee. If you're interested, send me an email and we'll talk. I don't work but we can do something in the evening. My husband works late so I'm alone quite a bit. He travels too so sometimes I am actually totally alone other than my daughter, Aaishah. Hope to hear from you. Email me at ____@____.com.

I felt that way till I joined my moms group. In fact I joined two different ones! Try looking at www.meetup.com for a group or do a search on Yahoogroups. I know there is a Carrollton group on Yahoo which would be about 30 minutes from where you are but possibly worth it to get you out and meet people. Everyone there is very nice and they welcome anyone no matter where you live.

Happy Anniversary! I suggest getting out of the house, and away from kid activities and do something you and your husband love or at least have an interest in.... like dancing, books, etc.

Book Clubs are VERY popular in Flower Mound. The library has a group that meets and others may be posted in the local newspaper, I'm not sure, but if you like books, find a club.

If you like dancing or want to learn, take a class at the Lewisville Comm Center.

You can even take a class at the Community Colleges in cooking, a language, art whatever you are interested in is where you should look for friends.

If you go to church, many of the churches have small group or focus groups that get together.

When I first moved here I joined the neighborhood Bunco group. It's a very easy dice game and it was a great way to meet other women. You don't need to know how to play before you go!

That's my suggestion... do what you like and find friends while doing it.

Well I know how you feel but mine is a little different I thought I had good friends but once me and my ex husband seperated I only have a couple of freinds but they never seem to never have anytime for me and I get really lonely especially since I dont have any adult interaction until I go back to work full time but it is hard to find friend to go and do anything with, If I didnt have my fiance (which he works alot and is going back to school) I would be a basket case...but if you want to hang out and see if we click let me know...and if you find a great place to meet anyfriends please let me know THanks Jess
