Locations for Baby's First Birthday

Hey Mommies,

Looking for location ideas for a first birthday party in the Wheaton/Glen Ellyn area. There will roughly no more than 30 people with no more than 10 kids (all 4 years and under). I am looking for a spot that will have an area for the little ones to play or where I can set up an area for them (like crafts, etc). I also wanted to bring in my own food but I understand if I can't (it would go with the theme & probably be cheaper). If you have any ideas (and know an estimate of cost) I would be very thankful! The birthday is not for a few months but I want to get everything set so I'm doing things last min. Thanks!

In response to the comment below-we live in a Condo. It's wayyy too small for the 30 or less people I wanted to invite. Believe me, I would love to save the money and have it at home but it just won't work out. Even if I cut back on people, the kids alone would make it too big.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to all the mommies to gave me some wonderful ideas! My hubs and I talked and we decided that because of the price of a lot of places we looked at (typically around $300 and didn't include food), that we would hold of until our little man fully understood his birthday and could really enjoy himself. Instead, we're going to have his party at a closed of area of a restaurant and we're only inviting close family and the godparents. Thanks again for all the great responses!

Kids Town! It's in Wheaton on Butterfield Rd about 1/2 mile east of Naperville Rd. It's pretty pricey. For a party that you are describing, it would run about $300. But you can bring your own food, all the kids would entertain themselves, and there would be enough room for the adults. (I am assuming that the 30 people = 20 adults + 10 kids.) I had my daughter's 5th b-day party there, and everyone had a great time. I was massively pregnant at the time, so it was well worth it to me to be able to just sit back and relax while the kids entertained themselves, the adults mingled on their own, and the Kids Town staff cleaned everything up. Good luck to you, and happy birthday to your wee one!

A little out of the way, but we've been to 2 parties here and it is well worth the drive ... the Elk Grove Village Park District has an outstanding 2-large room area: one has a carousel and one has a climbing structure ... you have access to both areas for the party, including unlimited rides on the merry-go-round. You can bring your own food in. http://www.elkgroveparks.org/parties.asp?id=202&fragm...

The kids love it. Good luck!

I know our park district does birthday parties at a fairly reasonable price, did you check yours? There's also Chuck E. Cheese I think on Roosevelt and there are some of those bouncy places. Elk Grove has a nice set up at their Park. They have a carousal that I heard was reasonable. We went there for a birthday party.Sorry I don't have prices.

we rented a park district building for my daughters first birthday- worked great. we brought in food and music and a few games for the older kids. i'm in naperville, but i'm sure park district buildings are a good option anywhere.

Check out the online Birthday Party Guide on www.kidwinks.com. It lists 400+ birthday party venues throughout the Chicago area, and many have reviews from other parents. If you become a member of kidwinks, which is free, you can then sort the list by distance from your house so you can easily find what's nearest you.

Here's the direct link to the Guide: http://www.kidwinks.com/ForKids/6/KidsBirthdayPartyPlaces...

Kidwinks is also a great source for finding things to do with your kids. The Events Calendar is full of fun happenings, including the free days at area museums, the Kids Eat Free Calendar lets you click on a day to find where kids eat for free (or cheaply, or where they can be entertained by a magician, etc. during the meal), and you can click through the Ongoing Activities Section to find things like children's museums, nature centers, bowling alleys, etc. etc.

Good luck finding your birthday party place!

J.

I'm having my daughter's 1st birthday at the Darien Park District. Renting a room for $35 an hour that holds 50 people. I am bringing in my own food, music, pinata, toys & games for the kids. I'd check out the Wheaton Park District if I were you.

Try your park district. There is a large room we rent (in Park Ridge) whenever we have both our families for a party (baptisms, major birthdays). We've had caterers bring the food there. They let us decorate a little. It was only $75 for 3 hours, I think. It has room for the kids to dance or play, plus plenty of tables for eating, crafts, etc. Good luck.
