Ok, I was just wondering something.. I was thinking about getting a loan for like 15000 and paying off my truck, all our credit cards and other loans.. That way I have on payment for all that stuff and have less to keep up with.. I called a couple people but my credit just isnt really good.. I mean its not bad just not quite high enough for that I guess.. It really sucks.. I was just wondering does anyone have an idea or advice to what I could do or if this is even a good idea.. I just get so frustrated with all these bills to pay.. Ive got 6 credit cards.. I mean they have limits n stuff but still.. And I have 3 loans including the truck.. I just dont want to fall behind on any of them or forget one or something.. Anyone got any ideas??

What can I do next?

I'm a Real Estate Agent for RE/MAX and there are a number of different ways you can do this. Like the people below have suggested shop around before you make your decission. Credit Consolidation can be a good thing for some people, but if you are trying to build your credit then you might want to look into more of the suggestion of an equity home loan or a personal loan. I have a loan officer I personally use only because she is honest in what will and can work for individual people. She will help you through and explain to you what is most important and be there if you have any questions. I just recieved an e-mail from her stating that she is offering free credit check and council on credit for the holidays. If you have any questions she WILL answer them without pressure. Another thing I really like. Good luck to you. I really understand your position and hope you do give her a call.

If you can consolidate, that's good, but find a good company, but here are the things my husband and I have learned to improve upon our credit immensely. If you have six cards but not all carry balances, close a couple. That'll improve your credit worthiness. If you have too many cards, even if you don't carry a balance, it counts against you. See if any of the cards you currently have, will take on the debts from the other cards (some will, if you ask, they just don't advertise, some will lower the interest rate if you ask, too). The other key to improving your credit score is to not have too many inquiries on your history. It lowers your score if people keep checking into you because that shows you might be looking to take on more debt. But, there are good consolidation companies out there. Shop around. Take the time to educate yourself. Consider what kind of rates they'd offer compaired to what you're already paying. It might be a pain to pay so many separate bills, but just paying them on time helps your credit score/worthiness. If you can swing it, you can pay minimum on your lower rate cards/loans and pay extra on the higher which will pay some off sooner and allow you to focus on the others. There's so many things you can consider. Check out if any have autopayment. That can alleviate the possibility of forgetting something. Good luck! You'll be fine because you're trying to put a plan in place and you're doing well so far! Just try to stick with... if you can't pay for it up front now, you shouldn't buy it (unless it comes to food and shelter).

My husband and I wanted to pay off all of our credit cards and other loans so we took out a line of equity on our home and paid everything off. Not sure if this will help or if you own your home... But we ended up just having the line of equity loan and our mortgage payment. Good luck!

My husband and I have been steadily whittling away at our debt over the past few years. We tried getting a loan to consolidate our credit cards, but we ended up with worse debt than before. What works for us is to have all the bills listed in a binder and check them off as they come in and are paid. We also list when we paid each one and how much. We also use our tax return each year to take a chunk out of our debt. Most recently we decided to use the online bill-pay features that are so available, so we never have to worry about late payments anymore, or checks lost in the mail.

I hope some of these ideas can help you, I wish you the best of luck.

My husband and I have spent the last few years "cleaning up our credit" from a messy divorce and some stupid mistakes and I have read and learned a LOT about credit and your credit report and your score in that time. Debt consolidation is not necessarily a good thing. The thing that helps your credit is having multiple accounts in good standing for a long period of time, so you never want to close accounts, lke credit cards. You also never want to charge anything or keep balances above 30% of your available balance on your credit card. You want to keep activity on each one of your credit cards, showing that you use your credit and each month you pay on time. Your car loan is another account on your credit that will help your score as long as you pay all your payments on time. A good way for me has been to put my payments on automatic bill pay that way for my car they take it out automaticlly each month on a certain pre-determined date, and it makes it realy easy for me because I don't even have to think about paying it, just make sure the money is in there and no problems. I have really good credit and having multiple credit cards for long periods of time that I pay the bill on time with low credit used has really helped it. I started out 3 years ago with no credit and now don't have a problem at all getting loans because I have high credit. My husbands is VERY LOW and he has difficulty obtaining anything but we have been able to pay everything off (collection accounts) and repairing credit is just something that takes patience and time, in a few years everything will be removed (it doesn't get removed just because it's paid- stays on there for 7 years). So I dont' think it's a good thing to put all of your debt onto one line of credit because it may end up hurting your score. I would suggest reading the book "Your Credit Score" by Liz Pulliam Weston- VERY GOOD READ that will give you some very good advice on credit.

I see that you are getting a lot of 'business' help in this area. I was a mortgage broker and insurance rep in my past, but the one thing that I hope you are looking at is: Once you pay these things off, are you going to cut up the cards and control your spending from this point on? If not, you are just putting yourself into bigger debt.

The only way you won't be is if you make sure you NEVER go over the value of your home!!!!!

Good luck with it all. I know finances are the highest stressors in my life. But, being out of debt feels just great!!! That includes the house payments.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I've been lokking to do that as well so if you find a way let me know because I'd need somwhere around $8,000. I'd like to start a banking institution that caters to that because it's not really debt it's bills and I know alot of poeple who would like to consolidate them. Just don't go to a debt management place. they don't pay off your prople they just take your monthly payment from you and pay them all at once and sometimes your payments are late and you don't know because they can't contact you when you go through them and you end up paying more in the end.

Get a copy of your credit report, see if there's anything on it that shouldn't be... then write letters to get anything off of it that you can. You can try one of those "debt consolidation" companies, but that will leave a mark on your credit...if you are going down it's a good idea, but if you're maintaining try to avoid them. Do you own your house? Any equity? Just a couple of suggestions...
About me:
Single mom of two little girls who went down the bad credit highway the WRONG way...don't ever declare bankruptcy if you can at all avoid it!

Traditional banks won't usually finance consolidation loans. Using a home equity loan would be the best way to do this. If you are not a home owner, you may want to look into the possiblity of getting the money by re-financing your truck. Whatever you do, get rid of some of those cards. There is no need to have more than one, maybe two, cards.

Good luck!

you could go to a consolidation service. they will take all your debt and combine it and then you just make a payment to them. I don't know if that would intrest ou but it worked for a few people I know.
