For the first time we are going to get a live Christmas Tree for the holiday season. We have never bought one and I am looking for recommendations on places to go. I have seen the tree places in parking lots, etc. Are those the best places? Are their places like the pumpkin patch are are a little more festive than just going to a parking lot? My guys are still pretty young, so I would prefer a pre cut tree. Any place in the Naperville, Oswego, Aurora area would be great. Thank you.

Our family has always had really good luck with Menards, Home Depot and Lowes. I think we got our tree at Lowes last year (the Lowes on 59 by Costco)because Menards did not have trees in that were as tall as we wanted. It is always fun to walk up and down with the kids and hold up the trees for them to pick one. If it's cold, we duck inside the store and look at the Christmas trim for a few minutes. Have Fun and Happy Holidays!

I second the Marmiom tree farm. It's very close and its fun to walk around and then cut your own tree. For a fun pre-cut experience, Kuipers in Maple Park (just west of Elburn) has a very nice experience with a barn with some shopping and food available and fun things to play on. If they still have them in the winter, they have the BEST cider donuts. Hot and fresh. They both have web sites.

Growing up my parents had property in Southern IL and we would cut down our Christmas tree each year. We had some pretty "Charlie Brown" trees. Anyway, I found a site on what to look for when buying a "fresh" tree http://gardening.about.com/od/winterinthegarden/a/Christm.... I suggest to cut it down yourself, because many of the Christmas trees on lots have already been cut down for months and are very dry and brittle. Last thing you need is a fire.

Merry Christmas

Two suggestions...Anderson tree farm on rt. 126...although I have lived in this area my whole life...I have not been there but see the lines closer to christmas.

We go to SIDS on Plainfield/Naperville road. We love to look at their indoor decorations and Christmas plants....we pick our tree outside and pull the car around for them to tie it down. They have some pet birds too that my son likes to look at.

If you feel like going to Plainfield (the north end of Plainfield - close to Oswego), I would highly recommend Anderson's Tree Farm on Rt. 126.
They have beautiful precut trees or you may choose to cut your own.
It is a farm, so the kids can see deer, horses, pigs, goats, chickens etc. And, they have a small house where you pay for the tree - but also can get popcorn and hotchocolate while they are putting the tree on your vehicle.
Our kids love it - we even went there before kids. We used to live in Naperville and would drive to Anderson's just for the experience. We now live in Plainfield - so it is minutes from our home.
Hope that helps!
Happy HOlidays.

We have found that places like the pumpkin patch, zoo, etc. have lovely trees...but are very expensive. We have also purchased live trees at Menards. The Menards trees we buy are the cheapest ones -- and may not be a "naturally" gorgeous as a Douglas Fir (that you might find at the expensive places). But once we decorate the tree with lights and ornaments, it doesn't seem to matter what type of tree we have. In photos, you can't really tell which years we had the pricey, gorgeous trees and which were the cheap ones!

Marmion in aurora on butterfield is a place where you could start a tradition od going to pick and cut down your own tree, Kuipers in Maple Park also has them and a cute shop with apple cider donuts.
