Lipstick Stains

My daughter got into my lipstick and ended up with Revlon SuperStay lipstick all over her white sweater. I treated it right away with Spray & Wash, then presoaked with Oxyclean and washed it. The lipstick didn't budge. Do any of you have any experience getting something like this out? That stuff is designed to stay on and it certainly is living up to it's claims!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Bleaching the sweater wasn't an option, because it's off white and has flowers embroidered around the top. I tried the Goo Gone first because I happened to have it on hand already. Much to my amazement, the lipstick disappeared! Thanks for all the great advice!

Lestoil!! Any oil based stains in the laudry.. this works great! Usually I don't use it full strength (I weaken it by adding water to it because it is pretty stinky and strong)... but if you have already washed the the sweater, you may need to use it full strength. (My grandma taught me the magic of Lestoil many years ago! Love Grandmas!)
Good Luck!

My mother is the Queen of laundry! She would suggest soaking it in a little bleach (the entire sweater is white, right?) - then add a little sunlight detergent and do a little scrubbing. While it's still wet (not soaking), put it in the freezer in a plastic bag for the night. The next day (hopefully the sun will be shining), put it out in the sun - then launder as usual. Word of caution, be careful not to put it in the dryer until you are satisfied that you got enough out - otherwise it will set in permanently!

My sister in law accidentally got lipstick all over the front of her wedding gown 10 minutes before pics were to be done!
we called the dry cleaners in a panic for advice...they said to use any form of "degreaser" we could find, and not to use tradional "cleaner" because it would set it...so not sure if your previous efforts have hurt.
we used some dish soap...it got us by (along with the careful placement of the bouquet! haha)
i bet since you have more time than we did, you could figure it out...go all out...go to the auto parts and get engine degreaser?!?!?! or a concentrated grease fighting dish soap?

Goo Gone will take care of it. That's what it's designed for.

Try hydrogen peroxide. Most greese/oil based products will clean up with it.

I washed and dried a tube of lipstick with a whole load of jeans one time. They came out looking like those paint splattered jeans from the 80's...haha. Anyway, I was advised to use Wink Rust Stain Remover on them and it took every bit of the lipstick out. You can find it in most stores. Just pour some on the dry stain and rub it, then wash it to see if it comes out. Just be careful because this stuff is very potent and will burn your hands if you don't wear gloves. I found out the hard way and ended up with chemical burns all over my hands.

Good luck....I hope you find something that works for you!

This is out of my stain book from Tide:
1) place stain face down on paper towel
2)sponge back of fabric with a dry cleaning solvent, replacing the paper towel underneath frequently so that more of the color will be removed.
3)Dampen stain with water, and rub with liquid tide
4)rinse and wash

From what I understand, tide is an exzyme detergent, there are others that are the same, but I am not sure which ones. Good luck.

P.S. Danny, I would love to know where you get lestoil, I want to try it on a few things.

That is the only lipstick I use, and as you know, only things like baby oil will remove it...or butter...lol.

The other day I was in the same situation. My daughter got lipstick (red) all over our light carpet. I remembered hearing something about WD40 working on lipstick so I gave it a try and it worked. All of the lipstick came out and there was no damage to the carpet. Hope this helps.

Try using alcohol. Also, there is a really great solution called Totally Toddler. It gets out blood, formula, poop, etc., so I'm sure it would work. Good luck! :)

I recently came across a site (www.howtocleanstuff.net). You can check that out and type in "lipstick" in the search. However, if you don't want to check them out, try WD40 or Witch Hazel or Rubbing Alcohol.

Hi S.. I would be careful with what chemicals you use (ie: bleach and some others may damage the sweater). I would recommend using an all natural product from a Wellness company I am associated with. Many refer to it as "liquid gold". It is like a goo gone but it is all natural, ph balanced and safe for use around children. Many moms like yourself have found this to be a great product for hard to remove stains. You are welcome to contact me for more information on this or other non-toxic products. My website is www.jobz4moms.com. Good luck.
