Linea Negra

I never had Linea Negra in my pregnancies at all. One theory is that increased folic acid intake can *decrease* the discoloration of linea negra as well as reducing birth defects. Have you been taking this supplement? Anyway, just as each child you have is different, each pregnancy you have is likely to be different too. If everything else is okay, don't worry.

I didn't get one at all, but I had PUPPS really bad and now that my stretchmarks are fading, I do see a little darker of a line, but I never saw it while pregnant!

I didn't get Linea Negra with my 3rd child until the very last month of my pregnancy and he was born perfectly healthy. Don't sweat it!

I never had a linea negra, and my babies and I were fine, so I'm not sure the lack of one means anything. Have you asked your midwife or medical practitioner?

I went to almost the very end of my pregnancy without seeing one and it only became very noticable after I had given birth and then took three months to disappear. I thought that was odd, but my doc said it's very normal.

I didn't get one and my baby and I were perfectly healthy through the pregnancy and delivery

I've been through two pregnancies and never had linea negra. Well, I might have, but if I did, it was covered by a huge stretch mark! I would say don't worry about it. Not everyone gets it.

I am 30 weeks into my 2nd healthy pregnancy and have not had a Liea Negra w/ either pregnancy. But of course if you are concerned just ask your doc, or thier nurse. congrats!

Hi K., all the linea Negra is, is a increas in estrogen and progesterone, if your fare skinned it is less likely to show, and more likely to show if your skin is tan or darker. some people think it is linked to insulin. But Im not a dr. or anything so if your worried about it just call your OBGYN. I hope everything works out well.

I am 35 weeks pregnant with my fourth baby and don't have one this time either! I have had an uncomplicated and healthy pregnancy...low risk. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Each pregnancy is different and our bodies react differently each time. If you are still worried, ask your practitioner when your next appt. come around.

I had never heard of this so I looked it up (see attached). According to this it may be that your folic acid is higher this time. It doesn't sound like a problem anyway.

Linea nigra dark midline streakLinea nigra (Latin for "black line") is a dark vertical line that appears on the abdomen during pregnancy. The brownish streak is usually about a centimeter in width. The line runs vertically along the midline of the abdomen from the pubis to the xiphoid process — the bottom-most part of the rib cage in the center or tip of the sternum.

It is a type of hyperpigmentation resulting from increased production of the pigment melanin thought to be caused by increased estrogen.[1] Why this process of hyperpigmentation occurs in a straight vertical line is uncertain. Fair-skinned women show this symptom less often than women with darker pigmentation[citation needed]. Before it appears it may be more faintly visible as a linea alba ("white line").

Linea nigra tends to appear around the second trimester. Some research suggests there may be a link between linea nigra and insulin.[citation needed] Supplementing the diet with folic acid is said to reduce the discoloration.[citation needed] After birth, the line fades slowly, but may never disappear entirely, and sun exposure may cause it to recur.[1]

I am 36 and have had 4 kids. I never had one, so don't take is as somethings wrong take it as this is just a sign of how different each pregnancy is and each child will be. Good luck to you.

Come to think of it, I had one with my first. It even made a circle around my belly button, which was really weird. I've never heard of anyone else getting that. But I didn't get anything with my second.

As I doula, I see moms both who get them and some who don't. Each pregnancy is different and you might get one in your third trimester. I wouldn't worry about it, especially if your nutrition is good and you are taking your prenatals. If you need anymore help, let me know!

Funny enough...I had it very DARK with my first two and didn't have it until AFTERWARDS with my third! Don't read into things.....my sister NEVER had one and her pregnancies were normal and had very healthy babies! It's just one of those freaky things your body does when you're pregnant!! :)

Mine was much lighter with my son (my second child) than with my daughter (my first), and it seemed like it didn't show up as quickly, but it stuck around forever after he was born! I would ask your doctor at your next prenatal visit, but I bet that it will show up soon. Also, I wonder if the sex of the child has anything to do with it? Are you carrying a different sex child than your other two? Like I said, mine was much darker with my daughter...hmmmm...I am no scientist; just a thought!

I'm 29 weeks pregnant and do not have a Linea Negra either. My doctor doesn't seem to think it is an issue. Are your other two kids both boys or both girls? Maybe this one is the opposite sex.

I didn't have one with either of my children and it was all fine.

Mine didn't appear until quite a bit later in my pregnancy, and I have a healthy beautiful baby boy.

I didn't have a linea negra while I was pregnant. There was no problem. Sometimes you get one and sometimes not. I wouldn't think its a huge thing.

I'm 27 weeks with #3 and have never had Linea Negra. It depends as much on your skin as your hormones. If you're worried, your doctor can check your hormones. Congratulations!

Hi K., I have had four pregnancies. My first two I had the Linea Negra line, with my last two I did not. My last two babies where just as healthy as my first two. All four of my pregnancies were problem free. My personal opinion is that it is not an indication of a problem, but if you are worried about it, I would ask your doctor.

I'm fair-skinned and I did have it with my first daughter and not with my second daughter and both were fine-- no insulin issues. After reading the previous posts, I wouldn't worry about it either. :)

From what I understand it is not a problem if you don't have linea negra. Many women don't experience this, especially those with fair skin. I didn't have it with my pregnancy and had a perfectly healthy pregnancy. It is caused by increased melanin in the skin, which is possibly related to increased estrogen levels. Not having it is not an indication that something is wrong with the pregnancy. From what I understand having or not having it does not effect your pregnancy in any way. But, if you are concerned about it you may want to ask your doctor at your next visit. Also, it still might show up later in your pregnancy.

I had it with both of my pregnancies. The other posts seem to shed more light on the matter. But, I would just like to mention CONGRAT's to you.... think of all that exfoliating you won't have to do!

Never had one before or after delivery. I had two single girl pregnancies and a twin boy pregnancy. They are all perfectly healthy.

Hi! I have never had it with either of my 2 pregnancies, but I am very fair skinned and they say it doesn't show up so much on fairer skinned people. I would assume it is not a problem if you don't get it and it is possible that by the 3rd baby it would not show up as strong. Good luck!

Yes, it is completely normal not to have one. I had a very dark one with my first child ( a boy), and not at all with my second (a girl). I've heard that it can sometimes be related to the sex of the child. Good luck!

Hi. Congratulations on number 3. I don't think this is anything to worry about. I've had two children and I didn't even know what it was (I had to google it to find out what it was.) Both of my children have turned out just fine. From what I could find out by just looking it up it is caused by an increase in estrogen and usually shows up darker in people with darker skin pigmentation. I couldn't find out anything about it being linked to proper hormone development.

I had it with my first child and not with my second child. My second child was just as healthy as my first. So I wouldn't worry about it. Some people get linea negra and some don't. My second his almost 7 months old, so I would say no worries.

This is my first pregnance, Im 22 weeks along and I dont have it. I went to my Doc last friday and he said every thing looks good. But if its something you are worried about dont think twice about calling your Doc and asking.

I never had one during my pregnancy and my midwife said that it is completely normal. Some women get them, some women don't, and it changes with each pregnancy. Good luck and congrats on you third little bundle :)!

I never had Linea Negra and I have 5 kids. They all turned out great!

Hi K. - I don't think it's a problem - I have had eight children and don't even know what it is.

With both of my pregnancies I never got Linea Negra, so I wouldn't be to worried about it. Both of my pregnancies were text book ones (on the healthy side).

Hey there. NEVER had one. all my kids are 100% healthy, and I had totally healthy pregnancies :-)
