Lifelong Skin Issue

I am looking any advice on acne and skin care. I have had somewhat bad skin since I was a kid, I break out, not terribly but enough. I have tried Proactiv and it worked some but I found I was getting deep blemishes that seemed to take forever to go away. I also have it on my back and found it was horrible with my last pregnancy. I've started to go back to basics again, I tried Neutrogena, that hasn't helped and just moved to Aveeno. However, there are so many products out there, even for just 1 brand, how do you know what the right combination is? This time around with the Aveeno, I'm trying to use as few products as possible and not all of them medicated for acne, maybe it's too much at times. Anyway, if anyone has any thoughts, anything that has worked for them, I'd appreciate it.

Hi H.,

I don't have an acne problem, but I have an ongoing skin irritation problem, and none of the brands seemed to help me long-term. Once I switch to another brand, it seems to help for a couple of weeks only, but not after that. I tried switching to an organic brand and it seemed to help me big time, so I just completely switched to organic cosmetics and I'm doing ok now.

My DH always has had bad skin and he finally found that using an all day deodorant body soap has helped with the body stuff and then I got him the Clean and Clear astringent for oily skin and it has worked great for him. He has sensitive skin and most stuff would dry it out but this doesn't.
Good luck,
J.

Finding a good skin care can be so frustrating. I too have suffered with Acne most of my teen and adult life. I have tried almost any skin care product out there and have found some that worked and others that were just ok. I used proactive for many years and had great results but since having my children I canno longer use it. I used to buy only things for oily and acne prone skin, I have found that made my skin worse. I am more of a combo skin then an oily. Up until a month ago I was using a skin care system that was ok, my acne is mostly on my jaw line and is mostly the cystic type. I do not get very many black heads but I was starting to get terrible ones. I was introduced to a great line of skin care about a month ago, it is called L'Bri Pure n Natural. I have been using the combo skin care plus the mask for about a month and a half and I am thrilled. My acne is almost healed with just a few stubborn ones. The black heads, none, and my skin is more even in color and texture. I can not say enough about this stuff, my sister who lives in California tried it and ordered some too, she loves it. You can find it on the web, but I will give you my consultants page just in case you would like to look at it,www.lbrimom.com
I have tried so many products over the years and I am so far just amazed at the results. As for back Acne I have that too. Big huge cysts, I have found that changing your laundry detergent to a perfume free and dye free type helps, also so not use fabric softner because that tends to cause break out also.
A dermatologist ( one of the many) told me to wash my hair and condition first them rinse and wash my body, he said that the left over hair products could be causing the break out. I am sorry this message is so long, I am pretty obssessed with my skin I guess that is because I have never had good skin. I wish you the best. I really think there are a lot of great products out there and you just have to remeber what worked for you ingredient wise and stick to it.

I have struggled with my skin as well...I am a beauty product junkie--if it is out there I have tried it! I was on the pill for many years, and that helped a bit, but when I decided to get pregnant, obviously I had to stop. Before my son was born, I was on prescription skin care--both oral and topical; they worked well, but took awhile to help. During my first pregnancy, my skin was actually great, and in between pregnancies I went back on the pill. However, now that I am pregnanct with my second, my skin was soooo terrible! Worse than when I was in high school. I tried everything I had used before--Clinique, Neutrogena, ProActiv, Purpose, Aveeno, Dove, Oil of Olay, you name it. I finally decided to try the Murad acne complex system. It is a little expensive, but WOW. After a couple of weeks, my skin is perfect. It is soft, clear, and the huge, painful cystic acne I had along my jaw has cleared up. Someone actually said I was glowing the other day. No one has ever said that. I really like the system because it takes the guess work out of things, and they have a starter kit you can buy. It doesn't include the toner, which I would recommend, but it is a fairly inexpensive introduction to the products to see if they work for you. You can buy online, but then you are signed up for a monthly "club"; I now go to ULTA, where they sell the whole line of Murad products. You can get the kit and full sized products there. I will use this stuff forever--it is amazing. I hope you find something that works...I know how hard it can be to have to face the world when you are sick of your face. Good Luck!

Hi H.! I have a great recommendation for your acne. It contains Stabalized Benzoyl Peroxide, which is what makes the difference in acne products. It also works in conjunction with a pill you take called Prevaderm. You can find it here http://www.whiteknight.unfranchise.com/index.cfm?action=s.... The Prevaderm can be found there as well. The product should last about 3 months. You should only need those 3 products plus the pills. Please let me know if you need more information.

Good Luck!

Wow...what a list of other women with this issue! I kept waiting for my skin to clear up since high school, and into my 30's I still break out. I use Herbal Logix, which has a gel wash, scrub, body spray, astringent, lotion, and spot treatment which all work really well and smell great. They are hard to find, and I get them off of eBay now.

I also use Bare Escentuals makeup and it has made a big difference in my skin's overall appearance.

Birth control pills helped me a lot too, which don't help if you're currently pregnant, but just FYI.

Good luck!

This is going to sound strange... but-
I use evil Noxema. You know- the nasty big blue tub of goo? I had HORRIBLE skin when I was pregnant. I tried EVERYTHING. (You name it.) I remembered in HS my skin rocked and I used Noxema. I switched to Noxema and noticed a difference in a couple weeks. I stopped using typical make-up on my skin. (I switched to Bare Essentuals.)
It's been worth it for me.

Most of the time I find- the more you put on your skin, the more you treat it- the worse it gets. If it's really freaking out? Try some plan- unscented DOVE bar soap, once daily. (Don't overdry.) Then a really, (really) light moisturizer.

Hope it helps.

Hi,

My dermatologist told me to use AmLactin- it is a lotion that has lactic acid (not painful) that used to be available by Rx only. Now it is over the counter at Walgreens. After I had my baby I had little bumps on the back of my arms and this made it go away. I also put it on my hubby's back and it cleared up his life-long acne. I don't know it is is suitable for your face or not, but it is great for the rest of the body. It may be ok for your face too!

Good luck!

Hi H.,

I can't believe all the marketing responses your getting!

Anyways, I also struggle with acne but my last dermatologist has helped me make major improvements. I used a face wash that can also be used on the body, but it comes in a bar form, so I don't know how well you'll be able to cover your back. It's recommended by my dermatologist & is called PANOXYL 5 (not in caps looks like PanOxyl 5). The "5" stands for 5% benzol peroxide (white with pink box), which doesn't irritate me like 10% does.

They also make a PanOxyl 10 (white with blue box), which you can now find in some Wal-Marts and ALL Walgreens. Both products do not require a perscription, but for the first few years (been using this product for almost 5 years now) it was kept behind the counter at the pharmacy or I had to "order" it from the pharmacist, even though it required no perscription. It costs between $5-$7 for a bar and lasts me about a month, but I only use it on my face.

PANOXYL STOPPED MY LARGE, DEEP, CYSTIC ACNE, which is why I keep going on about it.

I also got a super-cheap, easy but effective perscription topical treatment called CLINDAMYCIN 1% SOLUTION (generic for Cleocin-T 1% solution) that I put on my face 1-2 times/day. This can be drying, but it removed excess oil & eliminated about 90% of my small acne & blackheads. I've also used this on my chest & neck for breakouts in the winter with quick results.

Good luck!

My sister an I both have very sensitive skin and have tried almost every product that you could think of from coast to coast. But we finally found one after all these years that is WONDERFUL!!! I's called Bare Minerals and the company name is Bare Escentuals based in California. I get all my products from their QVC shows because it's a better deal from going to their store locations. You get more for your money by far! The product is all minerals with no additives and my skin looks great. The best thing is that it doesn't have that build up from your foundation and everything is a powder, no thick creams to stick on your face. So when itch your face it won't be under the nails. You should check out their products on QVC and log onto their websire too. I know if you try them you'll love them. We actually have a phone tree list going when they are schduled for QVC. Good luck in your venture, let me know how you like it if you decide to try them. You won't be sorry!!!

Please try "the regimen" on acne.org
It is fantastic and works wonderfully.
This guy isn't trying to sell anything, he just gives you a good basic skin care regimen that works.
It takes a little getting used to at first, but it works and is pretty inexpensive. It took me probably 2 weeks to notice improvement and by 3 weeks totally clear.
You are right about trying too many products, it screws up your skin. Stick to a basic cleanser like he recommends and a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide.
I really hope it works for you. I think it's fantastic.

You may have a hormonal imbalance. There may be a chiropractor in your area that deals with hormones and you can take supplements to correct it. I just takes a saliva test. I am a chiropractor myself and have seen results.

Good luck!

I have had lifelong problems with my skin. I tried a TON of different products. I tried Proactiv and it worked, but was way too harsh on my skin. I even tried Aveeno, Neutrogena, Oxy face wash, Clearasil, Avon, Mary Kay and Market America products, I could go on forever. I finally after thirty four years found a product that works and has kept me clear for quite some time. I am using the three step system from Clinique. I was really against it at first because it was expensive and I hate spending money. But it works wonderfully and they back their products. I have had to exchange a couple of times and they even take back products that you have used for months. I have actually used a product for a couple of months and it started to break me out, so I went back to the first one I used and they exchanged the old bottle and soap for the new one. No charge and the soap and the bottle were half used. They are wonderful and the woman are very helpful. Good luck to you

Good skin care and good results come from great ingredients. Be sure to read the ingredient label of everything you put on your skin because everything gets absorbed into your bloodstream and organs. Make sure that the products that you choose do not contain water (this simply dilutes the other ingredients and is a free filler that companies use to fill up their bottles), mineral oil (clogs pores and causes whiteheads and blackheads), SD alcohol 40 (dries out skin), artificial colors and scents, or harsh chemicals.

Have you ever head of L'Bri Pure n' Natural skin care? It's an aloe vera based skin care line that contains lots of vitamins, minerals, herbs and botanicals and does not contain any of the bad ingredients listed above. Aloe vera has the unique ability to penetrate into the pores, clean them out, take all of the good ingredients into the deep layers of skin, and heal your skin from the inside, out.

If you'd like to try some complimentary skin care samples, check out my website at suenelson.lbri.com....believe me, you'll be glad you did.

HAVE YOU TRIED MELALUCA PRODUCTS? THEY HAVE NO HARSH CHEMICALS IN ANY OF THEIR PRODUCTS. MY HUSBAND USED TO HAVE REAL BAD ACNE, AND MY SON WHO IS NOW 5 ALSO HAD THE SAME TYPE OF SKIN. FREQUENTLY BREAKS OUT, RED FACE, SKIN, ETC. I TRIED THE MELALUCA CLEANSING FACE WASH. MY HUSBAND HAD TRIED EVERYTHING.IT MADE HIS FACE MUCH WORSE THAN HE STARTED WITH! HE WAS AFRAID TO TRY ANYTHING ELSE. I FINALLY CONVINCED HIM TO TRY MELALUCA PRODUCTS, AND NOW HE SAID HE WON'T LIVE WITHOUT IT. THE CLEANSING CREAM IS SO GENTLE, WE USED IT ON OUR SON WHEN HE WAS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. IT NEVER ONCE IRRITATED HIS SKIN. HE LOVES IT. IT MAKES HIS FACE SO SOFT, SMOOTH AND VERY CLEAN. HE SAID IT DID NOT HURT HIS FACE AT ALL.
SO MAYBE YOU COULD TRY THAT. HOPE IT HELPS!

I am a personal skin care consultant, and I love the products that are exclusively available through retailers such as myself. We have an acne skincare treatment that similar to Proactive, but from what I've heard through testimonies is that it is a lot better because sometimes Proactive seems to cause more breakouts and other skin conditions. I know you've received many responces to look at sites, but I do believe you'll enjoy this one... also we have skin care for women who don't have acne skin problems, and I find these as a great line to use when your skin has cleared up. I do recommend using the acne skincare system for now though. That includes the Scrub, Toner, and Moisterizer. Here is the link: www.vwatson1.qbeautyzone.com ...If you have any questions give me a message back and I'd love to help you with them. Take Care. =)
