Hi ladies!

My little one is proving to be rather stubborn about his/her arrival and it's driving me nuts! :P I'll have steady contractions for a whole day, then Baby will change their mind and I'll have nothing for the next two days. It's been going back and forth like this for a week and a half. I'm at my wit's end! What are some tricks you ladies have used to get the ball rolling (or to keep it from rolling so I stop getting my hopes up!)? Any advice/experiences are GREATLY appreciated! (you'd think after 3 kids I'd know by now, but I never had this problem before!)

Thanks a ton ladies, and Merry Christmas!!

What can I do next?

My good friend went dancing out on the town, had a great time and went into labor same night! Maybe that would work

Get a pedicure! I have friends that swear by it! There are acupressure points on your toes that are "supposed" to induce labor. Otherwise, I am sure you have heard about the huge snowstorm coming..... dramatic changes in barometric pressure often cause women to go into labor.

Merry Christmas!

Hi J.,
I'll share what worked for me: I went with the old wive's tale and scrubbed the floor on my hands and knees in the afternoon. Had a spicy dinner and went walking for about an hour afterwards. About 2-3 hours later, my water broke and went into labor next.
Good Luck! Hope all goes well for you!

Have your Dr. strip your membrane. It's a little painful but goes away when she's done, worked like a charm for me.

No suggestions - just be prepared for a quick labor when it really does happen. The contractions you're having are doing work - it's just spread out over time.

Nipple stimulation works great at least for me. Read up on it first you do NOT want to go overboard on it. Just do it for about an hour and then see what happens. Both of my two so far were born within 24 hours of the stimulation. But seriously read up on it first and get knowledge in it as it can cause problems if not done within reason! Congrats on the little one!

My daughter had a similar experience with her last two babies. She had all the symtons, labor pains and all.Turns out the baby was stuck. One arm was up in the air blocking her from coming through the birth canal. If your due have them check and make sure.Congratulations by the way.

Relax. Your body may be ready, but the baby clearly isn't. Trust the wisdom of the teamwork between your body and your baby. I got sent home from the hospital three times with false labor, and she didn't choose to emerge until the moon was full (12 days after her due date). She's 28 now, and those 12 long days don't matter a bit. I do love the person she has become, and I'm glad I allowed her to come to us in her own time.

J., I don't have any advice really, just wanted to say that I'm right there with you. I am 40 weeks and 3 days pregnant and really thought she would be here by now! My son was 2 days early and now I'm just sitting here waiting. With my son, I took a walk, had a spicy lunch and had sex and he was out. This time I've tried all that and nothing. I guess we just have to be patient and trust that the baby will know when the time is right. Good luck and Congratulations!

Nipple stimulation and sex. (-: Nipple stimulation produces and semen contains the hormone that initiates labor. It usually only works though if body and baby are close to ready to give birth. Good luck.

When is your due date? The baby will come when he/she is ready. Unless you are way over due they won't induce.

J.,
If you're close to your due date, it's likely you have weekly dr's apts? At your next apt you can ask your dr. to do a sweeping of your membranes. I asked her to do mine at my 38 wk apt. (It doesn't always work--but they say that you'll know if it worked within 48 hrs). Exactly 24 hrs after my apt, I started to get contractions...and my baby was born a couple hours later! Thank you, Dr!
(of course with the winter storm coming through, you're more likely to go into labor too!) Good luck.

I hate this stage! You didn't say if you are at term yet but having a feeling that you feel like you are ready for the little one to come. With your next Dr's appointment speak with him/her about stripping your membranes to get thing started. Or you can try the old way and have sex which is what my Dr recommended but by that stage I was no way interested hence the membrane stripping. Once I had that I started labor that night and gave birth the next day. If your OB says it isn't time then have faith your baby will come with he/she is ready.
