We are looking into buying a new car. Unfortunately, it seems that all new cars or newer ones have leather interior...

So what do you put on your leather seats to keep from sliding or burning your legs in the summer?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I PULLED THE TRIGGER!!!!! We bought a Honda Odyssey Touring Minivan!!

Silver with black leather interior. My husband said I have to be a Raiders fan now that my car is silver and black!! I said - I still have my Cowboys SILVER!!!

The boys are TOTALLY stoked!! We have the DVD/gaming system!!! I didn't give up anything - I didn't "settle"!! It's fully loaded. I'm so excited!! I tested the parking assist this morning as I was backing into my driveway and we had the trash can out - it started beeping when I got close and then turned into a full tone when I was "too" close!! What a trip!!!

THANK YOU!!!

We live in the desert and it's not that hot. It's not like vinyl seats. Justdon't get a dark color. Also we do have seat coolers. Nice option if you live somewhere hot.

I live in the desert and it can get REALLY HOT in our vehicles this time of year. We keep a few towels in the trunk for days when its too hot to sit on the leather in the car. My truck has seat coolers and if you are buying new you may be able to get that option.

My last three cars have had leather. Two black, one tan. It gets very hot here in the summer and I really haven't had any issues with the seats being too hot....maybe only a couple times when it got over 100. On those days, I just start it (I have remote start) and wait a few minutes to get in. I would have a very hard time buying a car with cloth seats. Leather is a million times more durable and easier to clean up after my piggy kids. Along with four wheel drive, leather is the other thing on my "must have" list when we purchase a vehicle.

I have leather seats in my car and hate them for all the easily cleanable part. They are hot, sticky and HUGELY uncomfortable on long drives in the summer, and they are FREEZING in the winter. I got a seat cover for the driver's side.

My next car will definitely have cloth seats.

Love, Love, LOVE my leather seats. I chose a light color so don't have a problem with them getting too hot in the summer (and it gets really hot here). I do recommend getting the seat warmers if you live in an area that gets cold in the winter. My car is a 2003 and I think we've conditioned the seats maybe 3 times ever and the seats are still in great condition. I don't notice any issues with sliding but honestly that is one of the reasons I went with leather this time. I was tired of the getting to work with my skirts/dresses all wrinkled because they stuck to the cloth seats.

I have leather seats. I condition them regularly with leather conditioner.

As for the winter, I have butt warmers and love that feature.

Summer, I do more protection by keeping an old towel or something like that on the seat.

I have a 2 seater car do that works well to me.

Summers get hot here too and I have grey leather seats. Even with tinted windows, my car gets really hot inside when its been parked outdoors.

I always keep a bath towel or two in the car in the summer. When we park the car, the towel goes over the steering wheel. When we return to the car, who ever has the "hot seats" gets to use the towels. They're also nice to have when you've just lathered up with sunscreen and don't want it to rub off onto the seats. They come in handy as giant napkins when eating in the car, covering items you leave in the car (I have an SUV) and a host of other uses.

I haven't had problems with sliding on leather seats. I think that may be an issue with new leather but once its broken in, you won't slide much.

The good news is leather wears well, cleans really easily and generally doesn't stain. Just watch out for ball point pens!

i've never thought my seats too hot to sit on. you could just get a towel to lay on your seat and when you get in just put it elsewhere so that it keeps the sun from shinning on it.or get a seat cover that they sell at most stores like walmart. i like that you can just slide into the seat instead of having to fix yourself and pull the wedgy out of your butt everytime you get into the car. or i wonder if you get those visors that go into the windshield if it will keep the sun from shining on the seats and heating them up.

I've never had a problem with leather seats--we would never buy a car with cloth seats, actually. My husband will condition them every few months. I just try to park in the shade in the summer to keep the car cooler in general. Mine also have the heat and A/C in the seats--which is great!

a towel.
I love my leather seats, they are so much easoer to keep clean. Mine have the sea warmer so in hte winter they are warm. In the simmer i use a towel, I just sit on a beach towel. I also have a windshield screen that helps keep the seats cooler.

So what kind of car are you getting?

If it gets REALLY hot, I use a dish towel. I find I don't need it if the car's been in the garage or if I'm wearing pants, capris or a long-ish skirt -- only if I'm wearing shorts.

BTW -- in case you think color is an influencer, we have a black leather interior, a beige one and a grey one. I agree with the easier to clean comment!

I don't slide on my seats (not sure that I understand what causes sliding). Also, I have warmer and cooler built in, so.... Otherwise, you can keep a towel in the car, leave it on the seat before you exit or put it there when you return.

Never have had a problem with leather seats.
Wouldn't ever buy a car with cloth seats. Too gross.

More issue with a hot steering wheel if parked in the sun all day.

A sun shade helps in those situations. And AC.
