I was thinking of getting either the Leapster or the Leapster 2 for my 4yr and 6yr kids for Christmas. Do you any of you mama have either of these and do you like them? Is my 6yr daughter too old for one of these? She is in first grade so I'm not sure. Any advice would be great. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Definitely get a leapster 2 -- it plays all the old games. If you get a leapster you are stuck with only the older games.
And I heartily endorse it. I got a leapster for my son's 4th Birthday. He loves it.
The website has great deals right now -- like 50% off, so you could get one for each of them.

My two sons, ages 5 and 7 love their Leapsters. We have the Leapster 2 which plays the old games and the new ones. It is great b/c there are so many games to choose from with different age levels. Right now you can get them on Leapster.com for a GREAT deal (games also). Plus, since you have younger kids, they can use it too one day. Your kids would love it...mine can't get enough, and it's educational!!!!

My son has had & played his leapster 2 for 2 years now & he's almost 7. it's handheld, superportable, great learning games, & looks like other 'non-educational' game systems. I would definitley recommend it for both your kids! One of the best things i've gotten him! And it's great for the car & traveling, or pretty much anytime! He had a leapster also & doesn't use it anymore nor did he ever use it nearly as much! Have fun!

My son loved loved loved his Leapster. The books are great for a 6 year old - they are age-graded so you can get different ones for the different ages. He also loved the atlas and games.

We also have a leapster 2 which my daughter 6 loves. She got it last year for Christmas (5 at the time) and still plays it all the time. Also, I read on their website that all leapster games work in all leapster products...

My kids both have Leapsters (my son got his when he was 4 and my daughter when she was 3) and they both love them. They play them all of the time. I love that the games are all educational. The difference between the Leapster and Leapster 2 are that with the Leapster 2, you can have expanded play on some games and the parents can download the information to see what their child is learning, plus there are some online features as well. (We just have the original Leapster.)

My son is in first grade and this year we decided to upgrade him to the Didj. It's similar to the Leapster but the games are geared for the older kids from ages 5 to 10, up through grade 5, I believe. While the majority of the Leapster games stop at grade 2.

They do take batteries, but the great thing is that we rarely replace them. Somehow, they just don't seem to drain the batteries. The cartridges are small and easy to lose, so you'll want to either get a case to store them in. My friend has 3 kids and they all have Leapsters, so she keeps the games in her room in a box and then "checks out" the games to her kids. They can't get a new one until they've returned the previous game.

The Didj is new to us, but our neighbor boy has one and his mom said it is similar to the Leapster, just more challenging games. I have no complaints about the Leapster. We've never had a problem with either of ours and they are tough and put up with being dropped multiple times. I highly recommend it. (BTW, a friend of mine bought the V-Smile for her daughter, and within six months had replaced it with the Leapster which her daughter loves.)

J.,
I have the Leapster2 and all my kids love it (8,6,3-1). It has different levels and remembers each child. It is great for math and reading games. We especially love it for traveling.
Good luck

We have the Leapster LMax. I would say go with the Leapster 2 because you can use both Leapster and Leapster 2 games. My daughter is 7 and still plays with hers, in fact she is getting new games for x-mas. I chose it over the other hand-helds because I felt the games were more age appropriate. My son (4) loves it and plays with it often. I usually use them for long car rides or for anytime they have to sit quietly (Dr. Appts, etc) I think they are great. My 3 yr old does not have one, but does play with the older sibs games. She loves ratatioue (SP).

We have a couple of Leapsters, and all of my kids old enough to use them (3-11yrs old) really enjoy them. We just have games made for older kids that the older ones use, and simpler kids games for the younger ones. I think they are great!

My youngest just turned 7 and my middle one is 8 and we got the Didj last Christmas and it's been awesome! My younger one does still play with her Leapster as well. Leapfrog is great!
