How do you whiten tee shirts/long sleeve tees with yellow stains under the arms? Is it from deodorant? I'm tired of throwing away so many shirts.

Thanks!

It is deoderant plus sweat stains. I use a stain remover with a brush and brush (scrub it). Then I put all of the white t-shirts in one load on extra hot, extra rinse, and use tide, and also bleach and a scoop of oxi-clean. I think I may also try the vinegar that someone else suggested too. Let us know what works for you. :)

Try this...go and get some ZOUT..stain remover..and some blueing in a bottle, and a box of baking soda.

Rub the Zout on the stains.(I have a tooth brush I keep on my laundry room shelf for this task) Let the Zout set for a while, when you wash the cloths start the washer with hot water, put in a 1/4 - 1/2 cup of the baking soda, depending on the size of the load, and about a half cap full of the blueing, becareful not to spill this on any thing it will stain. Move the water around with your hand so it mixes up well.
here is a hint...
baking soda makes the "water wetter" actually it sofens the water and the cloth's, if you use this instead of bleach on your whites it will never ruin the material. Bleach will rot the material after a while and will also turn your whites yellow.
dont fill the washer all the way with Hot water only enough to dilute the Baking soda...make sure you rub that Zout in quite a bit. Most stains are Protein stains and you just need something to break up the protein.
Trust me this works ..if it doesnt it could be that the stains have been left on the material to long and have permiated the threads. But in most cases this works great on Whites...
I recomend you dont use the blueing on anything but whites..but the baking soda works great on every thing.

Good luck !

I absolutely swear by oxiclean- let is soak for at least a day and you'll notice a huge difference. I love that it doesn't leave a bleachy smell and it works much better at overall whitening. I have gotten into the habit of adding a scoop to all white washes.

It's probably from the deodorant if you're using an anti-perspirant. This site has lots of different ways to get it out; I use oxyclean and that usually works for me.

there's a detergent called yellow(or close to it) that you can get in the laundry aisle
i've heard that rubbing a dryer sheet over the arm pits of the shirt can prevent stains
i haven't tried it because i usually use bleach and after a season of wearing a white shirt it's usually pretty dingy looking anyway(for me i wear white a lot)
you can always dye the shirt if the yellow doesn't come out

Likely sweat stains. Have you tried soaking it in oxi clean?

I don't know if it will help or not but I usually add a scoop of Clorox Oxygen Action to my whites and colors when there are any stains. It doesn't give colors that bleached look and has gotten out most stains. The only stain I have ever had that it didn't take out was some pasta sauce on a pink turtleneck that I had. I usually use 3/4 of a scoop for extra large loads, 1/2 a scoop for medium loads, and enough to cover the bottom of the scoop for small loads. I have even used it around the house to get stains out of ceramic sinks by making it into a paste and rubbing it into the stains (make sure you wear gloves for this application process though as it does burn the skin). It also appears to be great for people who have allergies to regular bleach as my mom has used it with no adverse reactions. Hope that it helps your situation.

The only thing that worked for me in the past was to get a squeeze bottle of Shout and to coat the area with it before washing...it has bristles on the end of it so you can kind of scrub it in. You might have to wash the shirts a couple of times in the beginning but if you use it consistantly after that you should be fine.

Hi D., I can recommend two products that will help immediately with your underarm stains. First, I need to tell you that I am a Shaklee Distributor, and I advertise and subscribe to MamaSource. Shaklee's laundry booster is called 'Nature Bright' and comes in a small package with a scoop inside. You dissolve one scoop in warm water in a laundry sink or bucket and add a very tiny squirt of Shaklee's liquid detergent -- mix it until it's all dissolved; then add your stained shirts. Put something heavy (like detergent bottle, etc.) on top to keep items totally submerged. Leave for several hours or even a day or two. Then rub the underarm area back and forth against itself a couple of times and wring out garment and throw into washing machine. Then just wash as usual.
A tip to keep this staining to a minimum would be to put a little of Shaklee's laundry detergent right on the underarm area even before you put it in the wash. Their detergent is a powerful pre-spotter as well. I use a scoop of Nature Bright in every wash - just mix one scoop in a cup of warm water and mix thoroughly - then pour right on top of your detergent in the appropriate receptacle on your washing machine. Please feel free to contact me with any questions at ###-###-#### or ____@____.com By the way, all of Shaklee's cleaning products are non-toxic. E. Taft
