Laundry Detergent/High Efficiency Washing Machines

I just got a high efficiency washing machine. I have been using Dreft in my old washing machine, but I found on their website that it is not recommended in high efficiency washers because it suds too much, even if you just use a little. For those of you with high efficiency washers, what detergent do you use for your baby?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice! I picked up some All Free Clear today. It was the best deal at Target.

I too have the same washer; use about 1/3 of the amount you normally would. This works the same if the special detergant is sold out, I use regular soap, just less.

E.,

I had asked people what detergant to use instead of Dreft a few weeks ago. I had used Dreft with my first 2 kids but didn't want to spend the money on it this time if I didn't have to.

I was told any dye & perfume free detergant. So I went out and bough "All Free & Clear". Needless to say 2 weeks later we bought new Front Loaders. So I had to go buy new detergant.

There are a few Dye & Perfume free detergants in HE. We ended up buying Tide Free, because it was cheaper than the All Free and Clear at our Target.

Good Luck!!

Method has an HE baby laundry degergent. I found this brand at Target. We recently switched back to Tide and our son luckily has had no skin irritations. It is so much easier being able to wash all our clothes together.

My high efficiency only takes powder and I use Bio-Kleen. I don't like the petro-chemicals in standard detergents.

I just use a HE Free and Clear. I really like the All super 3X concentrated soap. I use it for cloth diapers and everything so it's just fine for babies.

We've just been using the regular Tide HE, along with Snuggle fabric softener. I have a 1.5 year old and we got our new machines when our child was about a year old. I am expecting another baby in December and plan to continue with this system unless I note any skin problem errupting in my new baby. The new HE machines are way better at rinsing out detergent than the old machines. My salesperson had warned me to not use any detergent on the first few loads so that the machines could get detergent residue out of our clothing from the old machines. I used to live in Europe and everyone has these front loaders there. They are truly great. At three months old, your baby should be fine as her skin is getting accustomed to our world. Since dry skin runs in my family, the one thing I was freaky about is bathing. I only bathed my baby once a week to not dry out her skin. Anyway, you'll find what works for you.

I use the Method detergent without dyes or fragrances. You can get it at Target. It works great!

I use a very small amount of detergent in our front loader. I typically buy All Free and Clear and use less than half the required amount when I do a wash. The clothes get clean and we don't have a sudsing issue. I wash baby clothes with the rest of the family laundry.

Hi,
I have a high efficieny washer and I just buy Gain HE brand or a liquid form of detergent. I just use half the soap that regular washers require. Granted your child is younger then mine, but I just have always used Gain and I have never switched products because of a fear of allergies or sensitivities to soaps. My washer works great with just half the liquid detergent. Hope this helps!

Just buy a free & clear detergent for HE washers. It should be fine for the babes skin. Dreft has a fragrence added to it but the free & clear detergents don't. Be sure it says HE on the box.

I still use Dreft in mine. I just fill it to half of the 1 mark, so I use half to a little less than half of the 1 line. It's been just fine.
