So What Happened?

Thank you to everyones responses. My son is doing so much better. He is on prevacid twice a day for his reflux, we changed his formula to nutrimagen (Which is nasty and expensive), and we changed his bottles to Evenflo - he is feeding so much better. I pray he keeps on feeding well.

Ann, I'm not sure if you have seen an ENT as of yet, but I worked for one before having my son and he is absolutely WONDERFUL with little ones. His name is Andrew Golde (Gold-ee) and he is at 960 Johnson Ferry Rd. ###-###-####, the name of the practice is Advanced Ear Nose and Throat. He can be booked about a month out, but he is well worth the wait. Best of luck to you!!

Dear Ann L

My third child was diagnosed with reflux at 2 months (a little late) and we ended up going to see a Pediatric Gastroenterologist. It was the BEST decision we made. They are specialists in this area and our baby stopped screaming a day after we changed her medicine. We went to Dr. Stanley Cohen, MD
1001 Johnson Ferry Road North East Atlanta, Georgia 30342. It took a while to get an appointment with them, but they have a call list, so if someone cancels they will try to set up an apt with someone on the list. I highly recommend going to the specialist.

I am not familiar with laryngomalacia, so I cannot offer any advice for that.

While I am not familiar with laryngomalacia, my daughter was diagnosed with reflux when she was about 2 months old. My pediatrician said it was not a medical problem, it was a laundry problem! She said as long as the baby was gaining weight, that I should not worry about it. Keep him upright for at least 30-45 minutes after his feedings and that should help, but won't stop all spit-ups.
Good Luck!

Hi Ann!
My daughter had reflux... that wasn't too bad once the doctors diagnosed it, but she had projectile vomiting before that. She was about a month and a half when they finally diagnosed her. They gave her some mild antacids and some muscle relaxers and she was fine... that only lasted about 5 months... after that she didn't need any meds anymore.

As far as the Laryngomalacia, I was looking that up, and it sounds minor. I would talk more with your family doctor about it. From what I'm reading, it is just a flabby epiglottis... the flap of skin that covers your windpipe when you swallow. It's what causes your baby to sound like he is wheezing. They say it will strengthen over time, and the Laryngomalacia should go away after about a year to 18 months. But your Dr will know if they have any meds to help in the meantime. I have heard of it... but I've never heard anything major about it. As far as it being dangerous or anything. I hope this helps.
Good Luck!
Jenn

hi,
my son is now 7 mos old & he too was diagnosed with laryngo & reflux(hes on prevacid too) when he was about 8 wks old. every baby is different but things i have noticed are slow weight gain, low muscle tone & my son jst started eating baby food. My son was moved clear up to Neocate formula it is $40/can & has to be ordered thru a pharmacy. with us goin into winter be aware of ppl with colds/flu etc. & ask ppl not to visit or hold ur baby if they have been sick bcuz infants with laryngo are more susceptible to getting sick. most babies outgrow all of this. hope this helps, C.

My son had bradycardia, laryngomalacia and reflux when he was born. He came 3 1/2 weeks early and had a rough time of it.

They wanted to do surgery to tighten the valve above his stomach, but I got conflicting information regarding the necessity, so I opted out and took the medicine route to neutralize the acid.

I gave him the prescribed medicine 3 times a day for 1 year for his reflux.

He is 9 years old now and is very healthy and happy. He does not have any stomach problems either.

I guess, like a lot, he just grew out of it.

HTH,
J.
