HI! We just moved to the state. We are living in the Piper Heritage neighborhood near the Legends Mall. We would like to start getting some work done on our backyard so we can start using it when the weather gets nice. We have a lot of trees, dead or unwanted, that need to be removed. Does anyone have any recommendations for services that will do this for a reasonable price? We also need a fence and maybe a patio poured (yes, it is a fixer-upper backyard!). Any one had a nice experience with a company or service in the area? I have no idea where to even start......

What can I do next?

I am getting a fence put in now and we are using Challenger Fence Co. in Shawnee. Ty Martin is the guy I am dealing with and he has been great. His number is ###-###-####. He was the best deal I found and was recommended by others who have used him in my neighborhood.

We used Jason Saragusa Concrete ###-###-####) for all the flatwork for our house, barn, and driveway last year, and he was EXCELLENT! He (& most of his crew, too, I think) is a KCK firefighter who has done concrete as a "side job" for many years - first for another company, and now for quite a while on his own. They are very hard-working guys, and we got great results even when they were pouring in 90+ degree weather. The ONLY possible downside would be if you were in a real super hurry to get something poured, since he has to work around his fire schedule. But, quality-wise, my husband was very impressed with their "full pours" (not just overdo gravel & use less concrete), how they set their forms, put in the re-bar, etc.

For tree removal, I would suggest Brandon Cole at ###-###-####. He does lots of general mowing/landscaping type stuff, but I know he did some extensive tree removal out at Lakeside Speedway. Full disclosure - he is a friend (and another KCK firefighter), and my husband has worked for him on big jobs occasionally, but we haven't actually had Brandon do work for us (just haven't ever needed it).

Good luck with your projects!
S.

Hi A.,

I have lived in the K.C. area all my life. I have had been happy with the following:
Marrs for tree service. ###-###-####.

For regular lawn mowing I use Aaron who graduated from high school in 2007. He and his brother began cutting my grass about 6 years ago. Aaron has cut down smaller trees for me and hauled them away. His parents have taught these boys great skills and manners. I have found him reliable. Call me and for his number. (mine ###-###-####).

Now, I have used and do not know if this company is still in business. B&C Tree service. ###-###-####. The were a door to door after a storm. Resonable, prompt but nothing
about them indicated they represented a company.

When needed I use Roto-Rooter Plumbing service and ask for Tom. He knows the pipes in this house and gets them cleaned out.

You might pick up a copy of The Kansas City Gardener monthyly guide to Successful Gardening. It has several ads. ( You can get this at the library & it is free)
There is also a Home Show March 27 -30 at Bartle Hall in KCMo.

Well, fell free give me a call.

My neighbors are KingHagen Lawn Care, and the number is ###-###-####. He's a great, honest guy, and if he can't help you, he'll know someone who can.

I can check with my lawn man, he's Mexican with some broken English but he's a very hard worker & pretty good rates. I know he's a jack of all trades & he's been good to me. Let me check to see if he'll drive out there & I'll get back to you with his name & number if he does. Good luck & God Bless!

Hi A.,
Welcome to the area! I too live in "The Dot", I am on the east side of the Legends. Near Providence hospital where I work as a nurse. I'm sorry that I don't have any great contractors to send your way. You might try online at Craigs List for services, I'm not sure if that will be any help. I will try to reach my in-laws in the next few days, they had some tree trimming done a few years ago and were pleased with the work. I'm not very confident that they still have the contact info, I'll also ask around work.

My email is ____@____.com

PS there is a great Mom and Pop BBQ place just off of 85th and Parallel. Its called RJ's (i have no affiliation with them, but my husband and I eat there frequently and the prices are very reasonable).

Anyway, welcome!
J.

Try Nathan Wolfe at ###-###-####. He is insured and does a good job. He can remove or trim what needs to go, and may have ideas on the rest of the work. He has been doing this work for 7 years. He is the father of two girls 5 & 6 as well as my son. B. W.
