My husband and I want to plan a romantic weekend getaway to Lake Geneva, WI in September. Where should we stay? Is the Grand Geneva Resort worth the price? Any more affordable, but still luxury-feeling, suggestions?

Grand Geneva used to have an offer for a low-cost room in exchange for them trying to sell you a timeshare. For 2 hours of our time, which included good food and a tour of the grounds, pretty painless, we got a great rate. If you like the looks of the place, you might want to ask if they are still doing that.

We've been to Lake Geneva a million times and our favorite hotel is the Mill Creek. It's right downtown, so you can walk everywhere. All the suites have balconies and fireplaces and full kitchens. It's great. There's also a pool and hot tub and fitness center & a jacuzzi tub in every bathroom. My parents also prefer that hotel. Second choice would be the Cove.

The Grand Geneva is pricey, but beautiful & probably the most romantic. Most hotels in Lake Geneva seemed overpriced to me, but since all the resorts seem to be around $200 per night, I would recommend Grand Geneva or the Cove. The Abbey is also nice. For romance, I would not recommend Lake Lawn, but for a family trip, it's very nice.

I don't know how romantic, but affordable and nice is the Best Western Harbor Shores. Right on the lake in downtown Geneva. There is a nice restaurant next door, and walking distance to everything else. You can always do a spa day or something at the nice resorts. I have used the spa at Grand Geneva and Abbey - Fontana Spa.
