Kronotex Swiftlock Laminate Flooring

We are remodeling and redoing our living room floor. We are thinking of going with the Kronotex Swiftlock laminate at Lowes. It is a Consumer Reports best buy.

Anyone have this flooring? Did you install it yourself? We do a lot of do it yourself projects, but never done this type of flooring only carpet and peel and stick vinyl.

Looks easy enough in the video, but sometimes the pros make it look a lot easier that it actually is. Any reason not to get this type of flooring?

Our other option is the peel and stick vinyl planks that look like laminate, we have that in the hall but my husband doesn't want that in the whole living room because he says after awhile it gets gaps and starts looking bad.

We are in this place temporarily and hoping to buy a house in the next year or 2 when my husband finishes his degree, but want to do the best with what we have at the moment and get it sellable for when we do decide to leave.

What can I do next?

Hi.
My husband and I installed laminate flooring in our dining room. I am not sure if it is the same brand or not, but I imagine the process would be similar. If you have done some house projects, I don't think you would have a problem with this one. Basically it requires measuring and cutting the planks with a good saw (our circular saw blade had completely worn away by the time we were done because these planks are incredibly sturdy and hard, so make sure you have good sharp blades). Then you snap the planks together. We also laid out a pad underneath the planks as we went, but there was no glue or nails, etc. It did take both of us working together to snap the boards together because you have to work down a whole row before letting the boards lock in place, but once you got the hang of it, it goes pretty quickly. We did our fairly good size dining room in one evening.

We just redid our whole house in the lock-in laminate. Once you get started, its a breeze. We finished our living room and dining room in one day. We havent had any problems out of it. I love it...and not to mention, with a 2 yr old and 2 dogs, its so much easier to clean up than carpet is. Go for it! Good Luck!

I haven't used this brand of flooring. We went with shaw laminated flooring in a 7 mm. 8 mm is better if your floor with allow it. The hardest about laminated flooring is trying to get in locked in place but once it's there - there is no problem. Shaw has a 15 yr warranty. I actually bought the shaw flooring from ebay and picked it up from the store. Could had it delivered and was still cheaper than from lowes or home depot. We had the square vinyl flooring through out the kitchen, laundery room, hall way and bathroom. We did not take the vinyl flooring up. Just layed the laminated flooring over it. The square vinyl does gap over time and doesn't look good. I couldn't wait to cover it up. We did not put it in the bathroom. Too much moisture. With laminated flooring it can't get wet that much. It is easy to clean. So if you spill something on the floor - get it up as quickly as possible. We love the laminate flooring. Makes the house look 100% better and should help us sell our house in the near future. Good Luck!

I've been around...ex hubby owned a carpet store...if you have any allergies check out the chemicals used to make the product...w/children check out the guarantee...sometimes it's in "fine print" & doesn't cover what it clams...! Find a reputable place that sells it and ask questions...some of the Lock-together flooring is made from formica & sounds like "a horse" clip clopping when you walk on it...check the density of the top layer...if it's vinyl...how thick is the "top layer"? Will is scratch & mar if you get a small piece of gravel in your tennis shoes? These are things you need to know ...the retail store should have info from the manufacturer to give you...do your homework...the key to making it look good is in the measuring layout...good luck!

J.,
I have my own flooring business. You're right! They make it look easier than it is. But, if you are handy and do home projects, you can do it. The brand isn't all that important. I have installed laminate that costs $.99 square foot up to some that cost &6.00 square foot. After it's installed, it all looks the same. The difference is mostly the warranty, some are 15 year, some 30. Just be careful when you put pieces together. Very easy to chip top coat off when installing. You'll need to rent a jamb saw to cut under your door jambs, so you can slide the flooring under, no cracks or holes close to doors. If I can help guide you in any way, don't hesitate to write. Good luck!

Its not true about not being able to get laminate flooring wet. You don't want to soak it, but If you use a wood glue in the joints when it locks just wipe the glue from the top of the floor and this will seal the joints. You should do this if you are installing in a bathroom or kitchen.
I used the wood laminate for my bath and living room, we are getting ready to do the dining room and kitchen with Slate laminate.
