Kool-Aid On the Carpet

Okay...here's the situation: Red Kool-Aid on light tan carpet. (I won't say that my 16-year-old daughter was the culprit!) I've tried everything! I've used Resolve, Woolite for Carpets, the steam cleaner, etc. Nothing will take this stain out! Since the red stain is so prominent against the tan carpeting, I even spot-bleached it (thinking that a bleached-out spot would look ten times better than a dark red stain). The bleach didn't make it budge. What else can I try? Do professional carpet cleaners have a sure-fire methid for removing red Kool-Aid stains?

What can I do next?

This may sound crazy but try mens shaving cream.....It is excellent at removing spots from the carper. Spray some on and let it sit for about 5 minutes and then blot and or slighty rub the spot with a damp rag. This works well.

My husband works for an industrial cleaning company and he recommends using "Juice out" as it specializes in red stain removal.

Try a mixture of Baking soda, carpet shampoo, and hydrogen peroxide. Let sit, then blot, rinse with fresh water.

Hi,
Worst case scenario: The kool-aid may have actually dyed your carpet and may never come out. That's happened twice in our home which is why we no longer allow dark colored pops or red drinks. At least for you it was a 16 year old. For us, it has been adults!

Best case scenario: The wellness company I'm partnered with has a product called Sol-U-Mel. Sol-U-Mel is a 3 in 1 cleaner and can take gum out of carpet, tar off a car, permanent marker off of tile, yet it's non-toxic and gentle enough to bathe in if you have the shingles. Anyway, it comes with a money back guarantee if you're not satisfied. It's worth a try for your carpet. I have customers who removed old paint from their carpet with it. If you'd like to know more, please contact me at ###-###-#### or at ____@____.com.

hi R.,

you can try Awesome cleaner. It is sold at most dollar stores such as Dollar tree. It removed brown nail polish from my tan carpet. I use it for everything and it only cost $1.00. Let me know if it works. I love it

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but...my little sister did that to my parents' carpets and they called a professional steam cleaner right away. The spots were right in the entrance to the main dining room so it was VERY obvious. The professional cleaner told them in his "thirty years as a carpet cleaner, Kool-Aid is the only thing I have never seen removed." Kool-Aid is often used as a "dye" in school projects. I would try Peroxide or maybe Oxy-Clean, but would not hold out too much hope. I know my parents had to replace the whole carpet when it happened to them.

Good luck!

Try Oxy Clean. Buy the powder (not the pre-made bottle) and put in a little more than the directions state. My daughter had strawberry orange juice that spilled on her when we were out to eat. We had somewhere to be so I had to run home and just change her fast. The stain set in and detergent didn't take it out(even after pre-treating) I tried Oxy Clean (never used it before) for the heck of it because I loved that outfit so much, and after soaking it for a good long while the stain came out. I am now a Oxy Clean user since Mother's Day :) It's worth a try since it's in your carpet and you can see it.

Hi R.,

I am not sure if it will work now, but I was at a party and my sister in law just installed off white carpet. Red wine was spilled and I immediately used club soda. It came right off. I keep this in stock for many uses. If that does not work, try either oxyclean, they make Kaboom.) I have it and it also works great. If all else fails try hair spray. Hope this helps.

Another vote for OXY. I had an old stain I found in the toy room after picking up some of the toys. I think It was a strawberry stain. I applied Oxy-Clean and left it on for 24 hrs and when I came back it was gone.

Try OxyClean....that stuff gets EVERYTHING out. I usually use it on the kids horribly stained clothes. Last week my 3 year old decided to draw on my carpet with a black permanent marker...I tried everything to get it up, then I remembered how well the Oxy Clean works on their clothes, so I sprinkled it on added a bit of water and it rubbed right out. I would think that it would work on Kool-Aid if it worked on black permanent marker on light beige carpet!

Good Luck!

Another vote for Oxy-Clean. That stuff really does get out everything. You might try Spot-Shot. I've had success with that as well, but not on anything red.

Hi R.,

Sorry to hear about the nasty stain.
Oxy Clean might work on your stain. I use it on everything. I use the powder and mix it with some water to make a paste and then apply thickly to a stain. I let it sit for as long as an hour. Then rinse and dab it well. It works for me every time and even on old stains too. I also add it to laundry together with the laundry detergent.
Let me know if it worked and good luck.

Regards,
A.

I just read that if you mix dishwashing liquid with peroxide that it will get out red wine stains. If it works on that it might work on Kool aid too.

Another vote for Oxy. You will have to let it sit for a while, but WOW, that stuff takes out all the stain in my kids clothes. And took out cran-grape juice in my carpet. Make a solution of oxy and water in a squirt bottle saturate the carpet and then I used my little green steam machine to suck out the excess water and rinse out the carpet. I let it sit for about 3 hours.

All the other advice is great. If none of it works for you, try lighter fluid. Soak the stain & let it sit for about an hour, then wipe with a dry cloth. I can't guarantee it will work because you have tried so much stuff on it, it might be set in. Good Luck
