contrary to popular belief there is no substitute for exercise. Eating better is a great start but you have to have some kind of exercise..Yes there are pills that claim to help with weight loss but they all say for best results use with diet and exercise. It may take a little time to find an exercise program that you enjoy doing. I have been through a lot of them but have found one that I love. With diet exercise you should have no problem losing 15 lbs by May.. :)

Diet pills will speed heart rate because they pretty much all contain ephedra or some counterpart... If you read the book that accompanies Alli, you'll laugh -- if you did the stuff in the book WITHOUT Alli, you'd lose weight. It's all about portions and exercise. I, too, have a pretty big appetite -- and I do love food. Still, the trick is to just put on your plate what looks to be a good meal and resist the temptation to get seconds. Also, no snacking. That said, if you can do six small meals in a day (graze) instead of three big ones, you keep your metabolism going faster for longer. And concentrate on high protein and "good" carbs.

Also, if you start your meal by first drinking a full glass of water, that should help you to get a full/satisfied feeling. And exercise is key. The trick to losing weight is to burn off more calories than you take in. The very best way to do that is diet and exercise. (and I don't mean "go on a diet". I mean eat good-for-you food in moderation and move.)

Good luck!

The doctor told me that "Alli" or whatever it is called that is out on the market now does not speed up you heart rate. The down thing is that a good many people get diarrhea from it. I tend to have a spastic colon so I don't need to add something extra like that in my life. Good luck.

Hi, A.. I know it is tempting to try to go the fastest route to weight loss. The only true way to lose the weight and keep it off is lifestyle change - healthy eating combined with regular exercise. And not only will you lose your 15 lbs but you will be a role model of health to you child and hopefully live a more active and long life together with your family.

I recommend a fitness program that you do not do alone. Group support is amazing and makes it more FUN! If it is fun you are more likely to stick with it. My passion is Stroller Strides so you can work out with moms and keep your baby with you. www.strollerstrides.net/charleston (Disclosure - I am the owner of the Charleston program but I started out as new mom with 20 lbs to lose. Joined the program. Loved it. Ended up buying it and becoming passionate about health and fitness!) If you prefer a gym, join with a friend so you can help support each other. If you want a free choice, walk outside in your neighborhood. Just dont do it alone. You will find excuses not to go. Get a friend and keep each other accountable. Set a weekly schedule and follow it! It is always more fun with 2 or more and you are more likely to stick with it! YOU CAN DO IT!

Someone else recommended you journal your food at FitDay.com. That site is great and FREE.

Weight Watchers is a great program b/c it teaches you healthy nutrition choices and portion control and is not a diet that you do to lose weight and then are done with. It is a lifestyle change. LEAN Mommy, a book by Lisa Druxman, is also about lifestyle change and it helps you figure out the why's behind when and what you eat so you can start to change your mindset around eating (ie eating for comfort or out of loneliness, etc).

I do not know how much you weigh, only that you want to lose 15 lbs. If 15 will take you to your healthy or ideal weight then truthfully the last pounds are tough and take time. Might not be realistic by May in a healthy way. If you are very overweight and want to lost 15 to feel better that can be done a little faster. Ever watch the Biggest Loser? Great show! They are very overweight and can lose big pounds each week. It is not so fast with women who are not obese but just want to slim down. I just want you to be sure you are realistic about your timeframe for losing weight. You dont want to get disappointed if it doesnt fly off 10 lbs in one week, you know? For example, to lose my extra 20 lbs after my son was born I started working out in Jan (he was 3 months old) and was down to my size and weight goal by September. So 9 months to lose 20 pounds. Be sure to set realistic goals and know that YOU CAN DO IT!

So get a buddy. Set your fitness goals TOGETHER. Work on portion control and healthy choices (dont even let the junk in the house). YOU CAN DO IT!

A good multi vitamin and a B complex. Eat a healthy breakfast, cut out soda, and invest in a bike trailer or a jogging stroller (don't have to be the most expensive either) and get out of the house. I dropped 10lbs in less than a month just cutting out the soada alone!!

Good luck!

Alli also cause very loose stools and, for me, aggravated my anemia. Be very careful with Alli. You do NOT have to eat a ton of fat to have loose stools with this product! I was on an extremely low fat diet and still had them!

Weight Watchers worked for me. 17 pounds in one month and I did it all online. :)

Hi A.,

I could recommend some herbs for you. Are you nursing? I don't believe there is any such thing as a "safe" diet pill. If your appetite is big, try drinking more water to fill you up. Email me privately if you want some advice on herbs; I also have an organic line of herbal teas and would make one specially for you to gently nourish your system and provide you will essential nutrition, aid in fat digestion, curb your appetite, etc. 15 lbs doesn't sound unreasonable to lose by May. Email me if you want some more info!

Alli....hands down. Only FDA approved. They boast losing 50% more weight and its true for me. Lost 20 lbs already. Their Program encourages low fat and low cal eating. It binds dietary fats and allows them to pass out of your system with being absorbed.

Also, try this website
www.sparkpeople.com
They are awesome. It helps with meal planning, exercising, shopping, recipes, and more. A great online diet community like the weight watchers, but 100% FREE to join.

Hope this helps.

Hi, A.! FucoTHIN (pronounced few-co-thin) by Garden of Life is a wonderful, stimulant-free product that helps to rev your metabolism safely and naturally. It contains no caffeine or ephedra--only concentrated fucoxanthin from brown seaweed, an ocean vegetable. It was created by a medical doctor and has been highly recommended by a lot of doctors as the only weight loss product they would recommend. It is completely safe and has been proven to assist in weight loss dramatically. Garden of Life says, "In two separate double-blind placebo controlled clinical trials, a total of 150 overweight female subjects were put on fucoTHIN. Participants followed an 1800 calorie diet and were monitored over 16 wks. In the first trial, the group that used fucoTHIN lost an average of 14.5 pounds. The placebo group lost an average of 3 pounds. Simply put, the fucoTHIN group lost 450% more weight than the group that DID NOT use fucoTHIN! In the second clinical trial study participants who used fucoTHIN experienced an average metabolic rate of 18.2% higher than with diet alone and without stimulating the central nervous system or negative side effects. In short, there was a 450% increase in weight loss, an 18.2% increase in metabolic rate--all without losing sleep or getting the jitters."
I don't know what area you live in, but I do know that All About Health in Woodstock (corner of hwy. 92 and Trickum Rd. in the Publix shopping center) carries it, along with a ton of other Garden of Life products. They can also ship to you wherever you are. If you want more info. on fucoTHIN, you can go to the Garden of Life website www.gardenoflife.com. Hope this helps, as I just started taking it myself and am trying to lose 50 lbs., after having had my third child in December! Best of luck to you! :)

Hi!
I have been going to a very well known naturopathic doctor in Atlanta for bio identical hormone therapy and he recommended "FucoTHIN" as a great weight loss supplement. It is all natural and even though the have their own pharmacy/vitamin store, he recommended FucoTHIN and said that it seems to bring the absolute best weight loss results without rapid heart beat, dizziness, etc. I am very sensitive, so I ordered it from "South Beach Nutrition" on Monday and looking forward to trying it!
It is a pill form which I totally like!
I will let you know my results when they are delivered and I take them for one week or so. Hopefully they will arrive tomorrow. Look them up on the internet.

I don't know a diet pill but I LOVE Weight Watchers. I did WW in 2000 and lost about 35 pounds in 4-5 months. I kept it off and after I had my baby I lost my weight quickly. Mainly that was because after losing weight on WW I learned healthy eating and healthy 'splurges' (that you can't blow your diet on a day of bad eating). You might want to check it out. The MOST effective way is to go to the meetings, you learn great fun tips from people (like FF whipped cream is 0 points!). Online tools are also great.
Good luck!

Since last summer I have been on the diet pill Phentermine. While it is a true "diet pill" (which I have always tried to avoid)I have had great success. I take 1/2 of the smallest dose at lunch time every day. It is enough to curb my appetite for the evening and night hours. This is the time I seem to need the most help. Since August I have lost 42 pounds and 4 dress sizes. It doesn't speed up my heart, I am actually on blood pressure med which was the reason for the low dose. It doesn't seem to effect my sleep but I have always been a 4-5 hour per night person. I haven't changed what I eat but drastically changed how much. I am also mama to a 20 month old very active little boy that keeps me on my toes. In the past several years I have found myself taking way too much medicine. I realized that the weight was my problem. My goal was to remove or reduce the number of medicine and my doctor has told me I will loose one and reduce another in May. I couldn't be more happy! I am 46 years old and want to be able to run and play with my grandchildren! Hope this helps!

I highly recommend Weight Watchers. Depending on how much you weigh it might be quite easy to lose 15# by May - maybe even more! I've seen people average 10# a month easily! You should be able to eat plenty of food and make it a lifestyle instead of a "quick fix".

Diet pills are dangerous, not to mention expensive! You can have a big appetite, just be sure you are eating protein when you feel that urge to eat. I try to eat an apple every day, usually at lunchtime or mid-afternoon. To lose weight, all you need to do is "up" your protein intake and lower those carbohydrates. Protein keeps the appetite in check. I eat 3 scrambled eggs and 2 slices of bacon each morning, and a cup of decaf coffee. For lunch I eat a salmon patty, hamburger patty, hot dog, chicken breast, just some sort of meat (but no luncheon meats), about 4 ounces, and a large serving of green or yellow beans (no corn or peas as they are high in carbohydrates) and an apple. Baked beans are also high in protein. You will not get hungry if you eat this. Orange juice is very high in sugar, thus the carbohydrates that are in it, so it is best to just drink water with your meals and also between meals. For dinner, I follow the lunch menu, except I try to vary the meat. I lost 30 pounds on this diet in just 8 weeks! It really does curb your appetite. Whenever you feel hungry, go for the protein! Maybe while watching TV during the evening, I will drink a diet cherry pepsi with my snack of, you guessed it, a piece of meat! Twice a week, I eat half a banana. And on Sundays, I treat myself to a small baked potato. You can lose on this diet, you really can! Good luck! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

I am doing a diet with some of the ladies at my church called First Place. There are several steps to this diet but the one I will tell you about is eating healthy. We do this by using the food pyramid where you eat some many bread, meats, veggie, fruit, milk and fats according to the cal. intake. I do excersizing also. You should be able to lose at least 2-3 lbs a week by doing this. Understanding that you cut down on your cal. intake. I am 5'9" and 183 lbs. I am using 1400 cal a day so I eat about 5-6 meats, 6-7 breads, 3-4 veggie, 3-4 fruit, 2-3 milk and 3-4 fats. This is called food exchanges. let me know if you would like more info.

I would suggest trying to use Fitday.com and journaling everything you eat to get a real idea as to your calorie intake and to cut out as many carbs and sugars as you can. Up your prtein and water as much as you can.

Diet pills even if they do help you lose the weight will only work as long as you are taking them then you will gain back the same if not more. Then where will you be?

A., I actually don't know of a good diet pill. The ones I tried icreased my heart rate, helped me lose but it messed up my kidneys. I finally did lose 20 pounds the natural way, and it did decrease my appetite. No white bread, the chemicals they use to bleach the brown flower to make it white is really poisonous to us all. I drank water in the morning and evening, stopped fried foods, stopped all alcohol and eat only good snacks before bedtime. Fruit, corn flakes, etc. My appetite has changed tremendously, for the better. I play outside with the children and bought my own roller skates which I use regularly. And, I have one "Eat Cheat" day a week. I don't go overboard, but we go to Golden Corral or Ryans and I get a little bit of everything. That's why my cravings stopped. Good luck with your new eating habits (I hate the term diet). You can do it, I just don't want you to damage your kidneys or liver trying to be thinner. it's just not worth it. All the best, A

Hi A.. Recently I started working out to Leslie Sanson's walking videos and I love them! You can use them indoors and you get to choose how many miles you want to do, how much effort you put into it, and it's ok to have 2 left feet. I haven't changed my eating habits but I'm steady dropping about 2 pounds a week. This week I'm going to start logging on FitDay.com and see if I can start journaling to help me focus on my food choices, to increase weight loss of course. I see that a lot of people are telling you not to try weight loss pills, and I wouldn't take them because I would waste them, but I hear Metabolife is still sold at Wal-Mart and a friend of mine lost TONS of weight taking these and walking. She ate what she wanted to, even drank sodas. I think you could lose 15 pounds by May if you do nothing more than walk everyday for at least 30 min. and cut down on sodas if you drink them. If you do decided to take the pills just follow the instructions and be careful. Good luck to you!

I took Apidex (got a prescription from my doctor) after I had gained 70 lbs during my pregnancy, who knew all that ice cream I ate was going to stick to me!! I lost all of the weight within a year, and stopped taking it. Once my son started walking, I was getting more exercise that my body had since before I got married, so once I dropped the weight, I started exercising and I at least walk 2 times a week, and now weight less than I did when I got married, so total, lost about 85 lbs in almost 2 years. It does work, but you have to realize it's something only to help change your eating habits, and that you do have to exercise and maintain a healthy lifestyle to keep your weight down. Good luck!

I don't know of a diet pill that won't increase your heart rate. I have suffered from chronic fatigue off and on through the years, and the healthiest way I have found to deal with it is a combination of One-A-Day Active Formula daily vitamins and B-12. It gives you a huge amount of energy without the side effects. Also, pickles are a good appetite suppressant. Drink plenty of water so that you feel full. Eat slowly, and you will find that you consume less. Also try eating several small meals a day rather than three large ones. Good luck!
