Kickproofs Socks with Grippers?

Does anyone have a recommendation for socks that are both kickproof/wiggleproof and that have grippers. We used the Carter's kickproof 6-12 mo. socks (which worked wonderfully), but now our 10-month old has outgrown them plus we also need some with grippers on the bottom since she is learning to stand and walk and we have hardwood floors. I've tried a few types with grippers, but then keep coming off as she plays and crawls around.

What can I do next?

Hi M.,

We also have hardwood floors and insisted that the socks have grippers. After time we realized that NO socks are better than socks when they are just learning to walk (for my twins it was 16 months, not 10). We still prefer the boys walk on the floors without socks because they slip when they run and it's too hard to stop them from running.

But to keep the socks on, we would buy socks up 1 size from the age of our kids. We use Circo mostly, but would buy socks big enough to cover their knees or come up to their knees, and pulled the socks up to that point. If you daughter is big then maybe try going up 2 sizes (our boys are in the 25th %ile) but either way the boys couldn't get the socks off and they never slipped off when I pulled them that high.

Also, I have had other brands of socks, ranging from Carters to Baby Gap to Gymboree, and the grip seemed to be the same after a couple washes. That why we chose to just stick with Circo. Just my experience.

Good luck!

We had the same problem with our daughter...she loved kicking her socks off and pulling them off. I bought her some ROBEEZ shoes. They go on over her socks and the bottom is great for gripping. I ordered mine from the Robeez website, but now Walmart and Target carry an off brand of these types of leather shoes! These also worked great when she started walking inside and outside. Good luck.

The only ones I have found that work are from old navy. My kids all had the same problem, and it was only with the last we found these.

You have a lot of great responses so far, we've done a lot of them...barefeet, Robeez, Old Navy grippers and making our own grippers with puffy paint (you can also use a hot glue gun to make designs on the bottom that grip). I just wanted to suggest that if you don't want to spend the money on Robeez (I think they are about $25 a pair) that you can buy knock off ones at Target for around half the price and they stand up really well. Hanna Andersson also has nice socks with grippers on the bottom & we've found that they stay on well.

Those Carters ones are the best though! My 5 year old was still trying to wear them when he was 3 & had LONG outgrown them! :)

Good luck!

It is pretty much trial and error for which ones fit your child best. What worked for us was Children's Place.

"Robies" not sure of the spelling, are the only thing I've found that stay on. They are made of soft leather and a little bit pricey, but well worth the investment. The parents at my day care pass them down to the younger children a lot since they last a long time even when worn daily. I've never seen a child who can get them off yet, although I'm sure its possible.

We tried oodles of socks as our daughter kicked them off & we have hardwood floors, also. Gymboree is the best for us! You can pick up on sale and they have a wide range of colors.

The GYMBOREE socks with the little bows on the back stay on the best and the grippers work great on our hard wood floors! They are kind of pricey, but you can find certain colors on sale every once in a while! Good Luck!

Personally I'm not a fan of the Target socks, I found they slid off my son's foot. Carter's has bigger sizes with grippers - I just bought some 2-4 year ones today. Gap is also good for socks of this sort and if you aren't choosy sometimes you can find quite a deal. I didn't like their 3 fold socks though (like the Target ones) as I found they slid off his foot too.

I've always used Gap's triple roll socks for all of the reasons you mention...they stay on and have grippers on the bottom for our hardwood floors. They're the best!

But if you find socks that stay on but don't have grippers, you can always take some fabric puffy paint and put some on the bottom and it'll be the same...plus you can use fun colors or sayings! Just an idea...

My 2 year old wears Gap socks. They are the only socks we've tried that actually stay on. They are usually 5 for $10.

These aren't socks, but have you thought of getting Robeez? They are soft leather, kind of like slippers. They stay on very well and are great for kids who are learning to walk. I had them for both my kids and just loved them! They come in all sorts of cute styles.

When my daughter was 1 year old I had a friend recommend socks from Old Navy, so we bought some to see how it went.. I absolutely loved them. Our daughter couldnt take them off herself nor did they come off when she would wiggle.. We still wear them and think they are the best.. Give them a shot they are usually pretty inexpensive.

Hanna Andersson has slipper socks ("swedish moccasins") that I liked better than the gripper socks - My son wore them all the time (except when barefoot) until he was 4 years old - they definitely helped him scooting/crawling/walking on the hardwood floors - and when he got older, kept him upright when he ran through the house.

They wash well, and I imagine are no more expensive than what you would spend on multiple pairs of socks. (Toasty warm, too, in the deep winter!) You can sometimes get them on sale for about $12, check out their clearance section.

I'd say prioritize the socks that stay on first, and if they don't have grippers you can easily make your own. Simply buy a pack of puffy paints from Michael's or Joann's, and dab little designs on the bottoms. A five-pack of paints is less than $5, and will last for a long time. We made non-slip socks using puppy paw prints, snowflakes, little smily faces, etc. It's easy to do, and you don't need to be particularly crafty. (Just make sure you stick a piece of cardboard inside the sock while painting--it will keep it flat and from bleeding through.) Wash and dry as you would regularly--they're super durable.

I have 3 boys and harwood floors in the whole house. We love the socks from Old Navy. They are thick, stay on very well and have grips on the bottom. My 3rd son is now wearing the socks that we got 5 yrs ago for my 1st son. They hold up VERY well. As others said, Robeez work well too.

I love the ones from Target. And Children's Place. They also have generic robeez for about half of what robeez cost and still no slip and flexible for little feet learning to walk.

I've used the Baby Gap socks on my 16 month old son. They were the only ones that have stayed on. They also have the grippers on the bottom. He's now wearing the 12-24 month socks & they stay on wonderfully. I hope this helps.

Try a pair of Robeez or Bobux. They are great little slippers that don't come off easily and they are non-slip. THey are a little spendy, but worth the investment. Good luck!

We've had the best luck with Children's Place, Old Navy and Gap socks. The same type from Target seem to come off easier.

Hannah Anderson has great socks, but they are pricey.

I found some pretty good ones at Old Navy, cotton sport style. Also at Kohl's some thinner ones, both stay on good and have good grippers.
