Kia & Hyundai Vehicles

I am looking for a vehicle that gets good gas mileage, a great warranty and not terribly expensive, to carry my child through college. I've considered getting a Kia or Hyundai because of the factors listed. I'm writing to ask for feedback on the pros/cons of owning such cars by people who have owned them. Even if you haven't "owned" one and have an opinion or have heard something regarding the cars I am interested. Thanks in advance for your help.

What can I do next?

I have a 2001 Hyuandi Santa Fe. I like it. I did have problems with it in the beginning, had to have a new transmission at 20,000 miles, but I think that kinda comes with the territory when you buy a vehicle first year out, that was the mistake I made. However every single problem I had was completely covered under warranty, a rental car if it had to be left etc. My Santa Fe has over 140,000 miles on it and still running strong. I'd consider another Hyuandi, just not one that is the first year out, they gota work the kinks out...

Hi K., just came across to your request when I made a request on something else so this may be a bit late. We have a 2007 Hyundai Entourage minivan, and absolutely love it! If money was not an issue, our first choice would have been a Honda Odyssey, so this is why we purchased the Hyundai because it was within our budget. Prior to owning it, we had a 2001 F150 Ford Supercrew truck, we needed a vehicle that would accomodate everyone comfortably. I just had a 3rd baby (May 2006), and so seating everyone in the back of the truck was causing the older two to fight constantly. And having to put the baby in the back of the truck even though it was a 4 door truck, it was h*** o* my back because it was higher. We got our van November 2006, day after Thanksgiving. It has a 10 year guarantee warranty, and at the time of the purchase, it was ranked the best safety vehicle because the front AND the side of the van comes with air bags. There is a plug for electronic stuff in the back if you need to do some laptop in the back so you would not be stuck with being limited to the front of the van only. The only thing I wished this vehicle had the capability was to move the seat at the back if I wanted to sit in the back and watch from the back of the van (like watching a soccer game - you leave the hatch back open, and sit from there), and now the Town and Country models have vans that comes with back seat that you can rotate (turn around) if you wanted to play a game on a table. This is great if you have kids and go on long trips. I would LOVE to have that, but we have to make do with what we got now.

I have a 2006 Kia Sedona. I absolutely love it! I would like better gas mileage but that and the cost of windshield replacement are the ONLY complaints.......it drives beautifully, looks great and was very reasonably priced for a van. My mom has a Kia sedan and I have driven it and love it as well........good luck with your decision....

Hello,

My husband and I both bought Kia Sportages in December of 2005, and we absolutely love them! I needed an SUV because of my sales job, but the Kia cars are very nice too and will be a lot cheaper on gas and monthly payment. If you are looking for a mid range suv, I would go with the sportage, we get compliments all the time on how nice they look and how much room they have. We bought ours from Manny at Central Kia, he will take great care of you.

Good luck!

We have owned two kias - an optima and now a rondo.

Both are great cars! Whatever you do though, DON'T go to the used kia place in landcaster. They are horrid.

My husband and I bought a new Kia Sephia in 2000. We've never had any problems with it, other than the usual maintennance and I wouldn't call wear and tear or maintenance a problem. Good Luck and congratulations on being a stay-at-home mom WITH A DAUGHTER IN COLLEGE! That's quite an accomplishment.

I had a Hyundai Accent a few years ago and bought it used at a dealership in Garland. It has 14,000 miles on it and when I tracded it in I had put just over 100,000 miles on it and NEVER had a problem. Only had to have oil changes and tire changes. The gas mileage was fantastic. I personally have never owned a Kia but I have a co-worker who couldn't wait to get a Kia Sportage and when she did she hated it! She bought it brand new but it spent more time in the shop tha with her. She hated it and had to replace the transmission within 3 years of buying it. She traded it in after 3 years and said that's the best thing she could've done. Good Luck!!

Well, I have never owned either a Hyundai or a Kia but when I was buying a car for my daughter, I consulted my mechanic and he said the parts for both are very high - three times as much as American cars & about 50% higer than Toyota or Honda.

I had a hyundai, the warranty and customer service in all dealers I had taken it to were great(it was just for oil changes by the way). I wish I had never traded it in, we are looking into getting a new car in a few months and will be checking them out again.
