My 16 month old will not keep gloves/mittens on. Now that its cold out, he really needs to wear them when we walk his sister to school. Driving her is not an option since the school is 1 block away. Every time I put the mittens on, he pulls them off and throws them on the ground. Any suggestions on how to keep his hands warm?
You can try using clips-similar to those used for ID tags. I know that some places sell things to hold the gloves to the coats so they do not come off easily but I cannot think where. Or you can try sewing snaps to the glove and the inside of the coat and then snap the gloves in place after putting them on. Make sure you use heavy duty snaps though.
we had this issue with both our girls until my husband started calling them monsters. He played a puppet game with the mittens being monsters and from that day on they loved the monsters, I mean mittens. I have since used that trick with daycare kids and it works every time.

The easiest thing to do is buy the mittens that are connected by a string. You put it in their jacket, when the fall off you never lose them!! I found mine at Childrens place and Burlington Coat factory.
I got the clother with mittens on, and since they were not as heavy duty for winter, I got a size 4 Jacket for my kiddoo.. That was long for body and covered hands over it..:-)
You can try having your kid select the fancy mitten, it made the throw longer than right away..maybe it will help in your case.

I know it looks a bit strange, but I have a extra-thick pair of socks that I pull up to my daughter's elbows. It's not conventional but it keeps her warm.
Tie a ribbon to the wrist of each mitten long enough to fit through each sleeve and across his back. put the mittens on and then the jacket. This way he can't get them off.
I just saw extra-long mittens in the One Step Ahead catalog. I think the idea is that the mitten is up to almost their elbow so it's alot harder to pull it off. I've done the sock thing though too :)
