HI everyone! I am new here...my 3 1/2 year old daughter was diagnosed with JRA in Sept. after our baby was born in Aug. She had swelling and pain in her right knee. She has since been put on medication to help her with the pain, but it does not seem to bo working. I am in constsnt contact with her dr. and don't know what more to do. I don't know of anyone that I can talk to that has gone through this with one of their kids.

What can I do next?

Hello S.,

I feel bad for your young daughter. A few summers ago I had post strep arthritis. It lasted most of the summer. It is quite painful. I took a lot of ibuprophin for the pain. I did notice the pain was worse in the morning. Try have her do some walking, but not too much. I know it's hard to keep a 3 year old still, but try. Have you looked into some natural remidies? That was going to be my next step, but then I started to get better. I am sorry I don't have much more info. for you. Hopefully someone else can offer you better advice. I will keep your daughter in my prayers.
K.

Sharon, I don't know how you feel about alternative health care, but I have had great success, though not personally with RA, seeing a naturopath. Please, please look in your area for a registered naturopath and take you daughter to him/her. So many times medications for many ailment don't work because the particular ailment is caused by diet or some other cause. If you cannot find one in your area, email Jeff Essen at ____@____.com and tell him I (K. new) referred you to him. He may be able to help you or help you find someone. Good luck!!

My daughter was 3 when she had severe pain in her knee, hip, ankle, elbow, and toe joints. There was no swelling, though. But she did have the elevated liver enzymes that goes with JRA. She went through weeks of testing and it was decided it was a reaction to a virus instead. But, my point is, I understand how awful and helpless you feel for your poor child. We did see the JRA specialist in Omaha. He seemed pretty good, and we have a 2nd cousin who has it and he sees this doctor and loves him. They had to find the right medication before he was out of pain, but they did find it. So, keep on the doc to find something that works.
