Just for Fun--Do You Make Your Bed Every Day?

Updated on February 11, 2011

Growing up, I had to make my bed every day. In college and before I had children, I would make my bed every day. Now that I'm a mom of three, I can't seem to make my bed every day--usually only 4 or 5 times a week. I honestly thought this is what everyone did. Do you make your bed every day?

What can I do next?

Yes! I can't sleep in an unmade bed! (and if my hubby decides to do me a favor and make it up, I usually re-make it! LOL).

We pull up the sheets and comforter, and stack the pillows neatly beside the bed, because we have one dog who loves to roll around on our pillows the second we leave. But go around and tuck in the sides? I don't do that ANY day, let alone every day! : )

Generally no. This isn't the main reason for but they are saying now that it is better to not make your bed right away. Making your bed right after you get up gives dustmites a nice warm moist place to breed supposedly. Leaving the covers off lets your bed air out I guess. If anything this will make you feel better for not making your bed!

Nope -I never make my bed. The only time I make it is if we're having guests and they may see my bedroom. I change the sheets regularly, but I've never been a "bed-maker." Funny -my mother always made their bed, but she never made me make mine -unless we were having company over! I went through a phase in my 20s when I would almost always make it, but that passed.

I almost always do. Sometimes if we are in a hurry though, my husband and I cheat and just sort of tug up the sheet and smooth the duvet out over it! But I like to make it - coming home to a messy bed just bugs me- it seems like one more chore I need to do when I get home from work!

The one other thing I usually do every night no matter how tired I am before bed is clean up the kitchen and either make sure the sink is empty and clean or if I have a pot soaking , everything else is cleaned up. Again, when I am getting ready in the morning, I just want to come out and make my coffee and toast and seeing a messy sink or not having the counter clear to do that just bums me out!

I HAVE to have my bed made everyday... well, except sundays:) But other than that it has to be made everysingle day.
I don't make it once I get outta bed,I usually go to the kitchen & get some breakfast. I get up at 7a.m & usually do it at 10 or 11 a.m, but no later than that.
I did not know about the whole mold buildup & dustmites feeling cosy. Its creepy.
Anyway, this is a fun post. I like it!!!

LOL... nope.

I have no excuse, either. To circumvent the "chore" of it (and because sheets tangle up and trap me in the bed more effectively than handcuffs... I'm a restless sleeper) ALL I have to do is grab the ends of the duvet, loft it, and walk out. Seriously... it would take 3 seconds of my day. I wash my fitted sheet and duvet once a week... and skip the tangledy topsheet completely. Except for this past year. When the whole bed just gets skipped.

I used to until we moved into this house.

In this house the *only* things that are upstairs are the bedrooms (even the clothes wardrobes are downstairs in a dressingroom/laundry room). I pry myself out of bed with a lever and accompany grumbling, lurch down the stairs, pee. Check on kiddo. Take a shower. Get dressed and head outside. for coffee & computer. Then it's laundry & chores, making brunch at 10am, starting school... I often don't see my bedroom until I go to bed again 19 hours later. If I do... I make my bed. But I only go upstairs to my room maybe once a week in the daytime. Ironically, it's usually to change my sheets. But the rest of the time... from groaning vertical it's 19 hours later before I venture back upstairs.

And look! My bed's all ready for me to climb right in!

;)

Can't wait until we can remodel.

Well when I was an adult with no kids, yes, I made it everyday.

I stopped doing so when the kids were little since it would get messed up but a kid within 5 mins of making it.

Both my teenage boys make their beds. I have no idea why, I never asked them too.

My daughter's room is so messy it's unlikely she can FIND her bed much less make it.

Like someone else said, when there is company (which is often) I will make all the beds.

Otherwise, sure I make it, right before I get in it! And when the sheets get washed.

I grew up with parents who did not make us make the bed so I am not a bed maker other than to pull up then covers to make it look nice if by chance someone was going to be around who might see it. But my husband was raised to make the bed everyday right after getting up, he freaks out if he cant make the bed before he leaves for work. He will sneak home on his lunch and make the bed. Sometimes he even tries to make me get out of bed before Im ready so he can make it before he is leaving.. lol. I really dont care if the beds are made. : )

Nope. I never had to. If I didn't make my bed as a kid my mom would just go in and make it for me. When I was single I would just sleep on top of the comforter and throw the sheet I used in the closet every morning. LOL, it worked for me. Now having a BF, and a baby....I don't even bother, even though he has mentioned it several times over the years he likes it made.

My side stays "made". I don't wrinkle the sheets or spread when I'm in it, I fold it back when I get out and put them back in place before I walk away. I have always been that way. Even as a child. I guess I am just not a very restless sleeper.

My husband is not like me. He gets up and leaves the covers flung back or wadded (on his side). My kids are like him. It drives me crazy.

I'm suprised (and kind of happy) at how many people don't make their beds. Growing up I had to have my bed made every day before leaving for school, when I lived in a dorm in college, there was really no place to sit unless the bed was made so I always made it. Once my hubs and I moved in together we decided we were just going to get back in the bed in a little while anyway so why make it! Once we are ready for the day, the door to our room gets closed and really doesn't get opened again until we are ready to go to bed.

I love hearing all the comments about gross things growing in a made bed, that will just be another reason not to make ours!!

I do make my daughters bed each day though, she really doesn't sleep in the bed (she's 2 and mostly sleeps on the floor or with us) but we do put her to bed in it each night. I make hers because she likes to play on the bed during the day so I make it so that toys don't get lost during the day.

D.H.

answers from Kansas City on

Nope, not fully. The only time it gets made fully is when we change the sheets. I don't make my girls make theirs either. I'd heard on one of the doctor shows that you shouldn't make your bed as soon as you get out of it so that it can dry, especially if you are a night sweater. Which my husband and I are. Keeps the bed from growing mold and such. So I'm good with it. LOL Hope this helps.

I will straighten the sheets enough to pull the comforter up over them, but only because if I don't, the sheets will be covered with cat and dog hair by the time I get home.
But as far as removing every wrinkle, folding hospital corners, and arranging decorative pillows, hell no. Waste of time, in my opinion, when it just has to be undone again every night in order to sleep.

HAH! No.

In fact, I read once that pulling the covers up doesn't allow the mattress and comforter and stuff to "breath" creating a perfect environment for whatever bad stuff lives in your bed...so I've used that as justification to only make my bed right before I go to bed and when company is over. I'm sure it's a bunch of hooey but it makes me feel better, lol.

Oh my gosh! Hahahah! NO! Of course I was raised that way, but realistically, for me, it's not a priority. I'm actually surprised, with the pace of life these days, that as many people who posted did say YES. Wow. More power to ya.

I spend time playing with and enjoying my children, studying for a Master's program, minor cleaning, grocery shopping, and cooking. After that, either there's no time left or I'm worn slap-out!

I actually wish I had a housekeeper who would "pick up" for me...toys, clothes, etc....It amazes me that kids can make all their items and mine migrate throughout the house and objects from bedrooms and such make their way to my kitchen floor. It astounds me!.

I rarely used to make it when I was single, but I married an OCD man, so now it gets made every day. Whoever is last out of bed is supposed to make it, and that's usually me. But sometimes I forget, or go shower first, and when I get out the bed is made. We just pull the sheets straight, straighten the pillow cases and pull the comforter over everything, though. The decorative pillows only go on the bed when we're having company, and corners only get tucked when the sheets get washed.
