Just Curious: Bed Time?

I am curious what time you go to bed & what time you wake up? We usually go to bed at midnight, hubby wakes at 7 am for work. Me & the kids (3 yr old & 13 month old) sleep until 10ish. I'm a SAHM. my other SAHM friends with kids similar ages seem to wake up so early. It takes me 2 hours just to shower, fix hair/makeup/dress, get girls ready, eat breakfast & get all my stuff together & leave the house! So I'm curious: what are your bedtime/wake up times, how long to get ready & kids ready to leave the house? I guess this really applies to SAHM's with young kids. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much everyone!! I'm glad to hear I have some moms in common with me! :) It IS hard to attend a play date at 10:30 am! ;D I'm going to have to adjust our schedule come September when DD starts MDO. NOT looking forward to it! My 3yo dawdles sooooo badly! Takes her 20-25 min. just to potty, wash hands, brush teeth, get dressed! I MUST take a shower in the AM--my BO & horrid hair will not have it any other way LOL! Kids go to bed at midnight too--otherwise Dad will never see them bc he works late. Will have to think of some time when DD states MDO :/ Found some comfort in knowing there are others like Me & also some good tips/ideas for bedtimes. Thanks everyone for your responses! Start praying for us now! Lol ;)

Im in bed at 11:30. Im up at 5:30 usually. I dont always stay in bed all night. I have to be up early to get my grand daughter in the door anytime between 6 and 8am. My husband usually is up and showered and out the door for work by 6 and I grab a fast shower and am dressed before 6:15 if she isnt here yet. I dont wear makeup, and it only take me 5 minutes to blow dry my hair. If we are going somewhere, I get her dressed and hair, teeth done, in about 10 minutes time, and we go.

I go to bed around 9PM, give or take a little. Never later than 10PM. In a perfect world, I'd get to sleep until 8AM, but I'm usually up around 7:30ish. I am one of those people who NEEDS copious amounts of sleep... I've been like this since I was an infant. i love sleep! Sleeping's my favorite :) My husband can run of 4 hours of sleep, no problem... NOT ME!! And I'm NOT a morning person... I won't run any errands until 11am. I can DO stuff first thing in the morning (work, laundry, feed the kids, clean, etc), as long as it doesn't require GOING anywhere ;)

My 3 yr old goes to bed around 9:30 or 10pm. (It's too bright outside for a 7 or 8pm bedtime! Also, he still naps 2 hrs a day, so he's not too tired at 7pm). He wakes me up every morning when the sun rises. Generally around 7:30 or so (give or take 30 minutes). It does take a while to get breakfast, get me and him dressed, etc. I shower during his naptime or before bed most days. Some days I will shower in the morning while he plays. But I know what you're saying about taking a while to get ready in the am.

So adults in our house go to bed around 10, 10:30. Last night 11 b/c stayed up to watch a movie. Husband wakes up at 6am to go to work. I fall back asleep most days and then wake up whenever son wakes me up at 7:30am. I'd much rather sleep till 8 or 9.
My friend: Her husband works far from home so doesn't get home till 7 or 8pm. So she lets her 3 yr old stay up late to spend time with Dad. He goes to bed around 11 or 12midnight and wakes up around 10 or 10:30am. It's different, but works for them. It does not make for a good playdate though (my son has been up for 4 hours by the time the boys can get together to play. Talk about irritable!)

the baby is in bed by 7:30 and my 2 year old by 8. I like to be showered and in bed by 9:30, and then i read or watch tv until 10:30ish. Hubby does this with me during the week but on the weekends he stays up until 2 a.m. or so playing videogames. I hate staying up late--always have. I am NOT a night owl and start to actually feel nauseated as midnight approaches haha...the kids wake up between 6:30 and 7 so we do too. We all like to be up when Daddy leaves for work, it would be kind of sad for him to leave while everybody else is sleeping and not say bye. We all like to have breakfast together in the mornings :)

Wellllllll, I sometimes sleep in until 9:00. But only recently--the kids are out of school, lol. When my kids were younger (before school age) they went to bed by 8:00 pm and were up before 8:00 a.m., usually. My bedtime really had nothing to do with it and still doesn't.... which is why I stay sleep deprived most of the time. :(

Nowdays, my kids are usually in bed by 10 pm (preferably 9:45 but it doesn't happen often) on school nights. Oldest is 13. They are up for school before 7:00 a.m.

My husband's schedule is off the map. Today he didn't leave for work until 9:30 am. But tomorrow he'll be AT work at 6:00 a.m. He'll come home in the afternoon for a few hours and then go back around 10:30 pm to work the "midnight" shift, and come home around 7:00 a.m in the morning on Saturday. He's an air traffic controller, and his schedule has always been crazy like this. I HAD to provide some semblance of 'normality' as far as schedules went when our kids were younger, otherwise they would have had none. Actually, I still DO provide that for them. Some days, hubby isn't home from work before the kids go to bed, and then they are gone the next morning before he is awake and he doesn't see them at all.

I was never, however, one of those "had it all together" moms who was ready to walk out the door freshly showered with full hair/make-up at 9:00 a.m. for "scheduled activities" with a moms group, LOL. We were up. But I was not showered and was not in "presentable" shape, lol.

My kids wake with the sun--so pretty much the whole house rises around 6. It takes about an hr for us to get ready, but I shower at nite or during naptime. I go to bed between 12 and 1.

Depends. She had a dance class this week so we were up early. I don't like it lol. I go to bed anywhere from 12am-2am and wake up (when we don't have anywhere to go) at 9-10ish. She doesn't do the nap thing anymore so I'm like okay then I'll sleep in now that I don't have to worry about tiring her by noon lol. She goes to bed at 830 and is usually asleep at 840-9 depending on the night and wakes up with me.

I know what you mean about getting ready in the morning, I take a while too. I usually try to style my hair the night before and touch up in the morning.

My daughter (9) goes to bed somewhere between 9:00 and 10:00 normally. Me, sometimes early and sometimes late. Wake up time is between 7:30 and 8:00. I need an hour to get out the door if I'm going to work, 1/2 hour or so if not. Daughter needs 1/2 hour from wake up to getting out the door (if I let her eat breakfast in the car).

On days where we have nowhere to go, we can lounge around most of the morning before we get out!

answers from Houston on

My schedule sounds about the same as yours. But most moms I know think I'm crazy for sleeping in that late. Then again, they don't usually wear make-up or dress up in the mornings either. I usually shower every morning, but get dressed nice/make-up and such later in the day IF I am leaving the house. Anything before 11 o'clock to me is usually hard for me to get too, my moms group makes fun of me b/c I'm always late. I'm terrified b/c my child starts kindergarten next month and school starts at 7:30am!

I need to get to bed earlier, but usually go to bed at midnight and wakeup at five or five thirty am. I can't sleep in---I have 2 little ones and my kids are up by 5am EVERY day...

My kiddos go to sleep about 7:30/8pm every night. It still takes us about 1-2 hours before we leave the house for the day.

The children and I wake between 5.30 - 6.00 am. We leave the house by 8.00 am. The children go to bed at 7.30 pm, and I usually go to bed around 10 pm. The boys are 3,5 & 6 years old.

answers from Chicago on

I'm not a SAHM, but we do have a consistent routine.

Our kids (3 and 1) wake up between 5:30 and 6 most days.
The 3yr old is in bed at 8 every night, and the 1yr old at 7.

(And yes, I've tried pushing around their bedtimes to get them to sleep later. No dice, they wake at the same time regardless.)

To get them out of the house, takes about 15 minutes if I have a plan. If I'm doing full shower and makeup, I need 30 minutes flat. So in total, 45 minutes.
I think since I work and am used to running on deadlines, I'm pretty militant about routines and getting moving. If I stayed home, I'm guessing that those things might take longer without a set schedule each day.

answers from New York on

It has been years since I went to bed before midnight (as I type this at almost 2 am ). I've always been a night person and that is when I am alert and the only time I get quiet time to myself. Factor in the bedtime and unpredictable insomnia and I am usually always tired.

My kids are both preschool age. My 5 year old is an early bird (the only one in the house) and will get up 6:30 ish. If he isn't be by around 8 he is an overtired terror. My little one is only 2.5. She mostly stopped napping but will sleep 8 or 8:30 to between 8:30 to 9:30. I get up with her usually and my husband will bring my older one to preschool by 9. Some days I'm up and getting my older one ready but occasionally I can sleep until my little one is up if I'm exhausted. I try and trade off on weekends but my son likes to wake up Daddy (my daughter is clingy with me so it evens out).

Getting out of the house is a whole other drama. My older one is up early but dawdles horribly at the things he has to do. If he just did the basics (dressed, washed, breakfast) he could be ready in 20 minutes..but no it takes much longer (hour or more). It takes well over an hour to get everyone ready to go out, even if the adults are up and showered/dressed. I hope it gets better as they get a bit older.

I am a SAHM of 2 (7 and 4 yrs). During the school year, my kids are asleep between 7:45 and 8 pm. This summer, it's been between 8:30 and 9:30. Hub and I are in bed by 10:30 and asleep before 11. Hub is up at 6:30, kids up between 7 and 8 am. ....which means I am too. We are all getting the very typical/recommended amount of sleep. We put the kids down earlier so hubby and I have a little time alone.

answers from Houston on

I would like it to be 10 pm, but I don't get home from school until 11pm, so it is usually midnight. I wake naturally at 8 am. When the kids are back in school I will have to get up at 5.30 as my school schedule changes and I have to get the kids to school by 7am.
My youngest is 3, and up until this year I have stayed home with her, she gets up naturally about 7.30, but she gets up earlier if I put the tv on, she is a good little morning person.
Takes me about an hour to get everyone fed, dressed and out the door.
My 9 year old holiday bedtime, is whenever, school time it is 9pm
My 3 year old bedtime is 8pm
I shower night before, otherwise it would take me much longer.
I would put the 3 yo to bed much earlier, and take that time to shower, and lay out clothes for the next day

I am a teacher 9 months out of the year, but during summer, I am off and stay at home. During school I wake up at 6 and wake kids up at 7. I leave for work at 730. My boys are teenagers so they just walk to the bus. My daughter goes with my neighbor to preschool, so I just get her ready and then take her to my neighbor. She's usually still really sleepy at 7 so it actually makes it easier to get her ready. My school is only like 5 mins away, so I can get there really quickly. All my kids have afterschool activities- football, band, ballet. They all go to bed by 10 but I try to have my daughter in bed by 9. I usually go to sleep by 11. My husband works erratic hours, so he sleeps whenever he is home.
During the summer, we all stay up later, usually til 11. I will stay up til 12 sometimes. Everyone sleeps in late in the summer. We usually wake about 930 or 10 and then take till about 12 to eat breakfast, get ready and leave the house. I usually make all my appointments and such in the summer and none are before noon if I can help it!! Lol. If I can't, well, then we just go to bed early for that night before so we can wake up early. During the summer is when I have trouble with my daughter. She dawdles big time!! It sometimes takes me an hour just to get her ready. My boys take care of themselves. I just have to make sure to wake them up with enough time to get ready, especially if we are going somewhere. If we don't have anywhere to go, I let my boys sleep in. They will sleep until noon if I let them.

Ha! I wish my 3 yr old would sleep (and let me stay in bed) until 10ish! If you can't tell, I am a bit jealous :) The kids (4 &3) go to bed 7-730 and wake up at 7. I am very pregnant and fall asleep about 930, get up at 7 with kids. When I was not pregnant I would go to bed with hubby around 11, he gets up at 5 for work. I am actually really happy with our routine right now (though if my kids would go to bed at 7 and get up at 10, I wouldn't complain, I am not willing to trade the early bed time for a late wakeup time) I have no idea what it will look like in 2 months when both older kids have part time preschool and we have a newborn! My kids always seem to make friends with kids who go to bed later and get up later than we do, it makes organizing playdates a challenge. It takes a little over an hour from getting out of bed to walking out the door for myself and 2 preschoolers. We all bathe at night (something I started doing after having my second baby) and I am very low maintanence in the clothing, hair, and makeup department. Most mornings that we have somewhere to be, it isn't until 9 or 10 so I will do things slowly and take a full two hours to get us all fed and ready...

answers from Seattle on

Spring summer fall I go to bed @ 2ish, and get up at 830ish
Winter I go to bed at 7pm and get up at 4am
Once a week I sleep myself out (usually 12-15 hours, I typically go to bed at 8pm and get up between 10am & noon)

My 9yo
Spring and Fall 9ish, gets up at 730 , except growth spurts then it's1030
Summer 10-11pm and gets up at 930, except lately he's been sleeping till noon
Winter 7pm gets up at 530am, drags his sleeping bag to the jeep, sleeps in the car until 730

Winter, my son and I snowboard... so we get up early, drive for 2.5 hours, snowboard for 8-10 hours, drive back, shower, go to sleep. Rinse and repeat. We just bring our school books with us.

This summer has been odd. I think hormones are kicking in with my son, because he is sleeeeeeeping in. I don't know what to do with myself in the morning! For the past 2 years, he gets up when he wakes up (usually 730) makes himself breakfast, does his chores, and then has electronics time until I'm ready to go. I wake up about an hour after him... stumble down the stairs... spend about 30 minutes rubbing two braincells together to get a spark, climb in the shower, and we leave to go do something active for an hour or two, come home, I make brunch, we do school, have lunch, leave for a bit, do school... that kind of thing.

I can be ready and out the door in 20 minutes from waking up if I don't wash my hair. If I wash my hair (currently... because I'm about to chop it off) it takes a couple hours.

answers from Honolulu on

I'm a SAHM.
Hubby works and goes to school.
I have a 4 and 8 year old.
Bedtime is 8:30 for them.
Whenever for us.
My kids, automatically wake up in the morning, about 6:30am.
Or 7:00'ish sometimes.
My son also naps, every afternoon.
My daughter sometimes. She napped today, for about 1 hour.
My son napped for 2 hours.

We are not, later waker uppers in the morning.
Whether or not we have things to do or not or timelines.

I can get ready, in the morning, within 1/2 hour.
My kids can get ready in 1/2 hour as well.
And then out the door.
BUT... I also wake up in the morning, BEFORE the rest of my family. At which time I do my things, make breakfast for kids, make coffee, wash dishes, do laundry, go online and check my e-mail/accounts/MamaPedia etc. Make my to-do list for the day, and prep dinner already in the morning. ALL before 7:00am.
-This morning, I was up at 4:00am.
Usually I am up by 6:00am.

Me- I like to get things done in the MORNINGS, so that, the afternoons are not as crazy and rushed... and calmer. And this is also the time my kids nap.
I do everything, in the mornings, as much as possible. To free up my afternoons. I am a major multi-tasker and real high-energy, then.

This is our usual.
Even on weekends, this is what I do, when we wake up and go to bed.
I don't need much sleep though. I am a night-owl.

Going to bed at midnight for you? Or the kids too? That is too late, for kids. ;)

answers from Houston on

My schedule is kinda like yours. We are late to sleep and late to rise. My daughter has never gotten up at the crack of dawn. She hates getting up early. We used to have Gymboree at 10am but I had to change it to the afternoon because we never made it. :) Things will probably be changing in this household because I am pregnant and my daughter starts preschool this year. YUCK. I hate getting up early.
