I am on a 30 day juice fast, and was wondering if any of you ladies have done anything similar? Do you have any favorite juice recipes? What were your results? After the fast did you go back to eating regular or have you attempted to stick with a plant based whole foods diet? What are some of your favorite vegetarian dishes?

So What Happened?

My reasons are health issues. After watching the documentaries "Fat, Sick, and Nearly dead", "Forks over knives", and "food inc", I have decided to change the way my family eats and relates to food. The fast is a way to detox your body and get it to start craving fresh foods over the processed foods and sugar we are used to getting.
For those that asked, the reason for juicing over just eating only veggies is because if you do not remove the insoluble fiber from the veggies, the sheer volume you would have to consume to get a proper amount of calories would just be too much food. by Juicing you turn those veggies into a more manageable meal by removing the insoluble fiber part of the plant. If I feel hunger, I allow myself to eat raw veggies, but honestly, when juicing you are getting so many nutrients you don't usually feel hungry. People go 60, even 90 days, doing this and the results are amazing, and I am not just talking weight loss, but diseases being cured, everything from diabetes to heart disease.

30 days is a long time to be on a juice only diet, it's not the norm. I would do a 3 day juice fast and then begin a regimen of healthy eathing. 30 day liquid diets NEVER work.

I've seen those movies too. AMAZING results and REALLY makes you think about what is IN our food and how damaging it really is.

Good luck and happy juicing!

that's a long time to do a juice-only fast. plant-based whole foods is excellent, however. why not give yourself the benefit of ALL the parts of the fruits and veggies by just going raw?

I felt great and became thin again from eating no more than 45 carbs every 2 hours (3x a day) and about 15-20 carbs per snack (3x per day). I made vegetable soup every day (spinach, cabbage, brussell sprouts, bell peppers, celery, carrots). The veggies varied each day. Stay away from corn and potatoes in soup. Juicing is a concern if you are using fruit. Fruit has a lot of carbohydrates. Homemade vegetable soup actually gives this weird refreshing buzz if you have about 3 bowls... And you can because it's low in carbs. My skin looks nice and I am finally thin again. Don't ever eat 2 slices of bread at once (sandwich). Only eat half sandwiches and cut fruit in half. Eat the other half in an hour or 2. These things make a huge difference.

We juice everyday. We call it our "vitamin" and drink down a whole big glass. We have tried every combo, but I like mostly veggie drinks with an apple, pear or some pineapple thrown in to add a touch of sweetness. Cucumber adds a nice refreshing taste too. Carrots are heavier and we usually add apple to carrot juice. We throw in a bunch of spinach with most juices. On the weekends we enjoy straight orange juice. Mmmmm. It's a nice treat.

As far as meals, we only eat meat maybe once a week and we're not really buying it for the house. We eat homemade burritos with lots of veggies on top (think salad on top of a bean and cheese tortilla). We like stir fry veggies with quinoua (sp?). I leave off the sauce on my sons and he just has the vegetable flavor instead of the stir fry sauce. We have a night of pasta with salad. I've tried some nice vegetable soups that the kids seem to like too. The only thing I find challenging is that it was easier to feed the kids when we had meat, carb, veggie...all separate on the plate. Now the foods are mostly vegetables and we have to retrain them to eat food that is mixed up. lol. We do still eat cheese and yogurt and I'm having a hard time wanting to cut it out.

I agree that this is the best way to eat. There is so much evidence that a plant based diet can reverse so many health issues. I just saw a woman with MS who did a plant based diet for one year and is a completely different, healthy person now.
