Has anyone ever done a juice fast? My husband and I have hit a plateau in our weight loss efforts and would like to do a 2 or 3 day juice fast to try to get things jump-started again and see the scale move a bit for motivation... I am not expecting miracles or anything and I know a lot of people swear by juicing and others are against it. Neither of us have ever done one... we have a juicer and a couple different recipes for juices...anyone have any experience or recommendations for this?

What can I do next?

I have heard about this diet and it is not the best. My sister and I have just tried the hcg diet. I really thought it was a fake but I am pleased with the results. I did the diet lost 13 pounds my sister who, is heavier, lost more then I. Then we went back to how we ussualy eat and I have only gained back 3 pounds. My sister who has stuck to the diet has actually lost more weight. It is a very easy dieat if you just obey it for at least 3 weeks, which goes by soooooo fast. Good Luck, whatever you choose!

It's easier just to eat the fruit rather than juice it.
Add some extra cardio rather than playing with what you eat, otherwise it will be for nothing.
Watch your calories, go vegetarian for a while.

If you do a juice fast of course you will lose weight - because you are cutting calories and depriving your body of much needed energy. Of course this kind of risky move screws with your metabolism and slows it down, putting it into starvation-survival mode, causing the body to hold on more tightly to fat while breaking down protein (from the muscles) instead for energy.

A better way to bust through a plateau is to keep on keeping on, adjust your exercise intensity (perhaps add a session or two of HIITs per week) and try thinking of your caloric intake as a 'weeks' worth of calories and instead of dividing them up evenly, have say 1600 one day and 1300 on another.

you might want to try reading Crazy Sexy Diet..i don't know about juice fasts b/c you lose the weight but just gain it right back ..i start the day w/ an ice cold glass of water..then a cup of hot water w/ 1/4 teaspoon organic cayenne pepper and a whole organic squeezed lemon in it..so the cold water jumps starts your metabolism and then the cayenne drink cleans out your liver ...if your liver is well maintained you lose weight better..then you have an herbal tea..
then i have a homemade smoothie but you could juice.. then have lunch after all this..its in the Crazy Sexy Diet book..

good luck..i've gained 10 lbs since last year and am on a quest to lose it..am upping my cardio...and watching what i eat

My husband just had a colonoscopy done and couldn't have anything except for clear liquids the day before his test. He lost 12 lbs. Of course, he also took some medicine that makes you get rid of all of your waste so you will be "cleaned out". I've been teasing him that he was really full of ****, lol. 12lbs is a lot for one day. He put 8 lbs back on the next day when he ate.

Look up the 21 days 21 pounds, the martha bonuses detox. It's a juice cleanse! Did and felt great. Even if you only do three days. And as ling as ur juicing every two hours your metabolism doesn't slow down. Look into it. Very healthy!

Any weight you lose from something like this will come right back on once you start eating again, and since it will slow your metabolism you may even gain more. I know you want to see that number go down for motivation, but how will you feel seeing it go back up, and than some?

Depends on you age! I used to do the lemonade fast (cayenne pepper, water, lemon juice) all the time and shed tons of weight in days, but ever since I hit 40-nope. It just slows down my metabolism and makes me gain weight. Any super low calorie thing isn't so great once you hit high 30's 40s. Juicing is super healthy, and you should do it in addition to a nice healthy low calorie diet full of metabolism boosting snacks and exercise..., but if it becomes a "fast" it may have weight gain metabolism-slowing results. If you're in your 20s though, YES, you will lose on it in a few days. (mostly water weight though that will come back a few days after you start eating again-best just to keep plugging away the traditional way so you don't slow down the metabolism, but if you have a special event you need to be "small" for, go for it.) Same for being 40 actually, you'll get smaller in the first few days, but you will pile on the weight immediately after you're done, and I swear it's harder to lose after that.
