Jogger Stroller

Hello. I have a 10 week old baby and I own the B.O.B jogger stroller. We have the infant carrier adapter attached to the stroller, but my son hates the car seat. So taking walks can be painful.

I don't want his head bobbing around, so when would it be safe to put him in the actual stroller without the infant carrier?

What can I do next?

I think it's generally when the baby can sit up (so around 5 or 6 months). You could always put him in a sling or Baby Bjorn for walks. Most babies tend to be happy right next to mom's body (especially at the beginning). Good luck. The time will go fast. Before you know it he'll be running around!

I have the BOB stroller too. It's great! The doctor had me wait until my daughter could hold up her head. I didn't take her out in the BOB until she was 6 months old.

I have the BOB and they say when the child has full control of his/her head. My son is now 4 months and has just converted. If you put them in before this you can damage their neck.

I bought a head supporter...I think they are for the car seat when they are really little?...from babies r us...I am sure they have them else where. It just snapped around the straps. I also used blankets under them to make the straps fit more snuggly.

Hi B.!

My daughter was the same way. I strapped her in the regular stroller when she was less than a month old! I just reclined it as far as it would go and had the head supports in and she was happy looking around!

We also have the BOB and we used it with our son when he was 6 months old without the car seat. Until then it seemed like his head moved too much. There isn't much support for their bodies in it until then it seems. Maybe you could use one of those fuzzy head supports for strollers...?? Good luck.

we bought the warm fuzzy fleece insert for the BOB and my 18 week old son loves it now (he hated the BOB before that). It also makes it a little more supportive because he sinks into it a bit. i thought he would get too warm but the past few morning have been cooler and he's been fine. i believe the owners manual says not to run with them until they are 6 months because of the support issue but walking is fine at any age.

I have a soft European carrier called a Lillebaby Eurocarrier that papooses the baby and still allows the use of the 5 point harness safely. I use it in my Valco Jogger with the seat reclined and my daughter doesn't move around at all...she loves it!

I read that 6 months is a good time to use the jogger stroller because there necks are strong by then. We didn't use ours until 5 months...seldomly because his neck was still slouching.

I also have a jogger and I put my son in it when he was around 10 weeks. I just laid it back as far as it would go so he was laying down. Maybe hold off on jogging for a couple more weeks, but I think he can definitely lay in the stroller without the car seat during walks if he is good at holding his head. Now my son is almost 17 weeks and I have it higher up so he can look around during walks. It made walking much more pleasant for us once he was out of the car seat!

I asked the same thing of my pediatrician. He said that as long as the baby's head was supported (get one of those infant snuggly things) then it was fine. Never did use it though as my 2 year old insisted on going on all my runs.

From the BOB website:
"We recommend that your child should be at least 8 weeks old before riding in a BOB stroller. Please note that babies incapable of holding their head up must have additional head and neck support to ride safely and comfortably. For jogging or off-road stroller use, children should be at least 8 months old."

So, at 10 weeks, he should be ok, I'd add a snuzzler or other infant support to be more comfy.

It's actually better for them to be out of the car seat too for a variety of reasons, either in a stroller that reclines flat, or at least as soon as possible in the stroller based on it's recline.

I think 6 months or when your little one can sit up while supported is the recommendation. My little one hated his infant carrier too, but it was in the winter and looking back I think I had him dressed too warm (can we say overdoing it a bit...) so reevaluate his comfort level in the carrier and you may find that he will be a happy camper for your walks!

That's a rough question to answer without being a dr. I'de be afraid of "shaken baby syndrome".

I think it is when they can sit up, which may be around 6 months. you might look for a different type of stroller. Does your little one do okay in a crib? They have those strollers that are like a bassinet on wheels. You could look for one on craigslist.

I never used the carseat with our BOB. I just reclined it all the way and he seemed just fine. Don't run with him until 6 months old though.

what does the stroller say? most of them give specifications for ages (ours was birth-40lbs or something, not a b.o.b.)... if you have it fully reclined w/ the foot rest up, i would think he should be fine at any age. i was under the impression that you weren't supposed to actually jog with them till they were 6 months old, though i DON'T jog, so i'm no expert there!

good luck!!

Hi B.. I, too, have a BOB stroller. I actually phoned the BOB support line, and the man told me that they could go in around 6 weeks - not sure if he was accurate, but I put my daughter in early, as did a friend of mine. I'd tighten the straps, put in a head support pillow, and make sure it's reclined as much as possible. Neither of us had issues with a little one in there.

Good luck.
