JFF: When Do You Shower?

Logic would dictate that I should wake up before DD and get my shower in but lo and behold sleep prevails! This leaves me no choice but to shower in her presence, which is not a problem for her or me. The bedroom is a safe zone and the bathroom is baby proof. Occasionally I get handed to me a roll of toilet paper or a stuffed animal while showering. And before hand I have to take Elmo and her stuffed frog upstairs for the occcasion.

If it gets too quiet, I know she is unraveling toilet paper!

So tell me, when and how do you shower with little ones running around?

What can I do next?

At night and I let my hair air dry while I sleep. If I work out in the morning, I take a quick shower but don't wash my hair, shave etc. It's just a quick face and body wash. Mornings are way too busy in my house for long showers, blow drying my hair etc.

When I had wee ones - I got up early and showered or asked my husband to take care of them while I was showering.

If that's not possible? I get the sleep thing. But make an effort to get up earlier and shower then.

GOOD LUCK!!

I've always showered at night, when the kiddo was a baby I would hand her to daddy when he got home from work and head to the shower. Now I shower after dinner, and she's 5 and will sometimes join me, usually in the warmer months when I don't want to boil myself in the shower because i've been so cold all day.

I either waited until they napped or I'd take them in with me. I honestly liked just taking them in with me because I could get it all out of the way quickly and have time for other things in my day other than getting everyone bathed and dressed.
I can not stand showering before bed! My hair won't dry and I feel gross by morning and could never face my day feeling like that!

I had been wondering the same thing! Mine are14 months and 4 (just turned few days ago). I found that taking one at night is what works best for me. As long as I'm not feeling icky and gross, I just do every other day in the winter months because my skin is just so extremely dry. I have too much going on in the mornings to stop and shower.

On my off days, I take one after they go to bed, on my "on" days, I get one while they nap. I have 5 kids (4 daycare kids) here all day so it depends on whether they all actually go to sleep or not. If not, gotta wait until later...

I lived in an apartment until my son was 3 and it was not able to be fully baby proofed, so I had to be creative. When my son was a baby, I'd shower only while he napped or after he went to bed. When he got old enough to sit in a bath chair, I'd stick him in that in the back of the shower and I'd stay in the front. Bonus was that I could wash him quickly also. Or, I'd bring his high chair in the bathroom and put it beside the shower. The chair part could detach from the base, so it wasn't that bulky. I also had a big hexagon superyard gate thing in the living room that kept him contained. I only used it a few times and had to quit when he figured out how to climb it. When we moved into our house, I child proofed everything, so it didn't matter anymore. I still to this day (he's 5 now) try to shower while he is asleep since it is so much easier not being bothered or wondering what trouble he is getting into!

I would try to get a shower in before my husband would leave for work. Either that or nap time.

mine is 5 so this is not exactly what you're asking, but yes, i get up at the butt-crack of dawn to exercise and i always shower after. usually just a quick suds down and rinse off. i usually wash my hair at night, just over the tub really quickly. sometimes on the weekends i get a good long "real" shower. :)

when he was little, it was when he was asleep. i think he was at least 4 before i would shower with him up. even then (and now) it's with the door cracked and maintaining conversation throughout just to keep tabs on him.

When DS was that young I would shower before he got up, but like you said that doesn't always work out. On those occasions I would bring his exersaucer into the bathroom for him to play in while I showered. I also sing to keep him engaged. I think what you are doing is fine.

Same thing- usually before my daughter wakes up... but now that she is almost 3.5 yo, I tell her Mommy is having Me Time in the bathroom. She gets hers at night before bed when she is settling down, so tonight she actually closed the door and played in her room! Teach them early, I say, and stick to it... Still I can't get more than a few minutes at a time. Good question!

I have always showered with my 3 year old, in the mornings, well since she was about 6 months old anyway. It is really convenient for getting her clean, and I know exactly where she is and can enjoy my shower. If she really doesn't want to come in (rare) she plays in the bathroom.

I'm LUCKY if I get to take a shower ALONE~ I have two daughters.. Brielle will be three on the 23rd of this Month and Azaelia will be 8 months old on the 6th! I must agree, catching some extra Zzzz's in the morning before my children wake has always been my number one choice. Only on occasion will I get up and get a head start by getting in the shower and getting ready (i.e. doctors appt., work when I worked during the day). Taking showers with my girls is part of our everyday routine... Id say.. I really dont have much of a choice in the matter when it comes to my oldest (Brielle).... when the water turns on and I get in... there she is stripping herself naked, grabbing her toys, and jumping right in! I actually find it more conveinant than having to give her a bath before or after Im done. I started showering with brielle when she was 6-7 months old... putting the baby net sling thing toward the back of the shower so the water didnt constantly get her wet. and using the sprayer to rinse her off after i washed her up. And I am doing the same with my youngest! Both of my girls love bathtime and showers so thats probably why this works out for the better! If both of them are up when im getting in the shower, the three of us are in there together! sometimes it is a little crowded depending how many toys my oldest decides to bring in!! But she is pretty good about making sure not to get soap or water in her sissy face or mouth. She is usually more helpful than anything~
But having them in the shower with me, gives me peace of mind knowing that they are not getting into things they are not supposed to.. and that i wont be getting out of the shower with any unpleasant surprises! Also, i know that they are both safe and that my oldest isn't doing anything to her sister that she shouldnt be! Theres nothing i hate more than having to get out of the shower to see whats going on... or having to pick up my baby to calm her down from crying! Taking a shower is supposed to be relaxing.. and believe it or not... with both of my daughters in the shower with me.. it can be just as relaxing as if it were just myself!! well maybe not just as relaxing.. lol it depends if daddy is watching them or not ! My daughter did the toilet paper unraveling and the getting into my makeup or hair stuff. But she learned very fast, that she is not to do it! Using her potty and an appropriate amount of TP is much more satisfying and fun to her now than wasting the whole roll! lol.
I dont see any harm in co-showering.. same as co-sleeping! My daughters are young and obviously this would not be an option for when they get a little bit older... the younger they are, the bigger path of destruction and curiosity !

Since my son was born 6 years ago, I shower before bed. I never knew at what point he would wake in the morning and with a long commute to work I had to ensure I had a chance to shower. And the habit just stuck! I like LONG showers and that helps me relax before bed and not run late in the morning, or worry about whose schedule I am intruding on.

Most of the time, I shower during naptime. Oh yay naptime! I also cannot pull myself out of bed before my son wakes up. He is my alarm clock 99.5 percent of the time.

At this point in the game, sleep trumps showers. Mine are 4 and almost 2. I shower when almost 2 year old is napping or if I have to, I put the tv on for the 4 year old and the 2 year old goes back and forth between the living room and the bedroom/bathroom I'm in (our room is off the living room). I often have the glass door being opened, have my little person talking to me, and I watch her climb onto the toilet. Those cabinets were the first to be baby proofed! When they weren't so mobile, they were put in the exersaucer.

I think I see a time in the near future when I finally get enough sleep at night (no one wakes up through the night), and I can get my shower in at the start of the day. I do feel better those days!

Wait wait, all you women got to shower with little ones!?!?! :-D

Now with a 5 and 2 year old I usually shower in the morning, I wake up about 30 minutes before anyone else. Not matter when I get up, someone always walks in so I get the cold air and someone trying to talk to me.

When the kids were really little it was them in a bouncer or on the floor with toys with the door closed.

Ahhh to one day shower with the curtain and door closed!

When my kids were little, I showered in the morning before work. My husband was still at home. When I had an infant, sometimes I put them in the bathroom in their bouncy seat. I was never really alone with the kids at shower time, Dh and I left for work at similar times. I guess you're probably looking more for SAHM opinions than mine.

When my son was little and trouble, I just brough him in the bathroom with me. The door stopper, flushing the toilet, flicking the lights... and even some "real" toys kept him perfectly happy.

After he wasn't little, and was a different kind of trouble, no worries.

I'm not awake until I've had my shower and gotten my warpaint on for the day.

When he was little, though, I would dry my HAIR (as in wash and dry it) at night. I have curly curly curly PITA hair. I blow it out straight all winter or I get sick (those who say a wet head won't make you sick obviously don't a- have wet hair for 36-48 hours, b- live in 40 degree weather; aka PERFECT for a whole host of nasty germs and molds, c- spent a significant portion of the day outside, and d- understand that when you lower your body temperature, as you do with a cold head for extended periods of time, you've just given yourself 'exposure' and reeeeeally invited every nasty germ to take up residence while your immune system is low functioning, and d- haven't read the PARAMETERS of studies which claim otherwise. Military studies, of people who DO spend signifcant time outdoors in crappy weather are totally DIFFERENT from studies conducted in laboratory settings.)

Anyhow. I digress. If I don't have dry hair in the winter, I catch pneumonia. So I HAVE to dry it. which means about an hour of my time. Which means I would do it after my son was in bed!!! :D
