I have a six month old boy, and love to go play outside. What do you do on a rainy day? We read stories, play fun little games, he plays with toys. Anybody do anything unique when its cold and rainy outside?

Some of our day is spent indoors. A washtub full of water with funnels and marbles and bubbles is a big time-spender for my son , who is four. (Your little one can use a pie pan of water on a towel... if he can sit up, sit with him and let him splash in it.) We love block play, reading books, soaked watercolor paper with watercolor pencils or watercolor crayons.Fun to watch the pure color run. Playdough. Playing with cars and ramps is fun for him.

It's also fun to draw a picture with markers or have the kids do some watercolor onto paper, then put the paper outside to be rained on, to see the effect.

And we are sure to go outside too. We have rain gear. Sometimes, on the slower side streets, we take puddle-stomp walks right in the street... I just stand guard and we get up on the sidewalk quickly if I see a car coming. We only started doing this when he was 3.5 years.(Little ones don't understand so well about not playing in the street.) Even at my preschool, we go out in the uncovered backyard, rain or shine. Sandbox play and mud pies and watching the rain on the different plants in the garden, or pouring out of the gutter onto the rocks of the rain garden. When my son was little, I'd wear him in the pack and take an umbrella. We had a good time if the weather wasn't wild.:)

Play in the rain.
Then a warm bath after.
We play outside in our yard.
Put on bathing suits.

When it rains here, it is not always "cold" though.
Just rainy.
Its fun to play in the rain!

At that age my favorite was just to lay on the floor with them, prop them up, surround them with all their toys and stuffed animals and talk and make up silly stories (I always used silly voices for their animals) and see what would make them laugh!

Lots of things... Put on rain gear and go outside to splash. Sometimes I open the curtains and we sit by the window and read. It's also nice to stand at the door and just watch the rain fall. :)

We blow bubbles in the house too lol. Read books, color with markers, watch a movie with some popcorn, dance to her music table toy, sing songs, play with her toys, play "monster" (either she or I is the monster and we talk in a raspy voice and chase each other haha), do flips in the living room or somersaults where you roll with your head tucked in. Sometimes we'll go out to the indoor wildlife museum or bouncy house place, but only if it's like drizzling or light rain b/c I'm not tryna pick her up and run in a down pour haha.

We'll have to start making tents too (thanks betsy :P)

we blow bubbles in the house, paint with water colors, make play dough, roll cut out cookies and decorate them. We make tents with blankets, we have indoor scavenger hunts, make obstacle courses, mop the floor with our socks on ( messy but fun) we have a movie day and pop popcorn, sometimes we have a pajama day and read lots of books on the couch with blankets and stuffed animals and pillows. We play music and dance silly = )

build forts....our living room is just one big giant room that is attached to the kitchen. So, when it is nasty out, I will get every single blanket we have and every chair we have and build a giant fort. normally a fort would only last a little bit, but when they cant go outside all day...it becomes a magical place. My boys love it. They have rooms and a story line and everything.

We also do play doh, paint or play board games. The fort is by far the most popular one here, though.
