JFF - Petty Annoyances

This is so petty I can't believe I let it annoy me. I try to always bring my lunch. But sometimes I splurge. Yesterday I went to Mongolian Grill and got lunch to go. You choose all your own stuff and they grill it for you on the big pit. Half the fun is seeing how high you can pile it up. It's $6 and more than enough for 2 meals, so , it's not too much of a splurge. Today Im really looking forward to lunch. It's even better the 2nd day. I go to get my food and it's gone! Someone cleaned out the fridge and tossed it. Now, this is the 2nd time I've gone to Mongolian Grill and the 2nd time my leftovers were thrown away. I've seen leftovers sit in there for weeks, but my food gets tossed the same day I bought it. No friendly email asking us to get our stuff Just "opps, sorry, was that yours? I wasn't sure." Well, if you weren't sure, why the hell didn't you ask! Ok, I'm over it now. But now I have to go buy lunch. I wasn't budgeting for that and that makes yesterdays lunch really expensive. What are your little annoyances at work or home that are so petty they aren't even worth mentioning but still get under your skin?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I thought of some more
Not telling me when my husband or daughter has called for me, not taking responsibility for mistakes they've made - throwing someone else under the bus, acting blonde about something so they don't have to do it,
using the last paper towel or toilet paper without replacing the roll. this doesnt bug me at home, I'm the mom there. But at work it make me think - you lazy cows!
at home - I hate when my husband takes clean clothes out of the dryer to make room for his own and throws them in a pile in a laundry basket without even folding them. He sometimes leaves it next to the dryer. They get mixed back in with dirty and rewashed. I also really hate when he puts wet towels all over dry things. I find wet moldy clothes stuffed down in laundry baskets with a wet towel on top of them.

That really stinks!! I would be very mad too. Next time you might trying putting a big note on it that says DO NOT THROW AWAY-- I'm eating this _______ (tomorrow's date.)

When I was a teacher I was annoyed by people who left early all the time. Since teachers are salaried we didn't clock in or out and certain people took advantage of that fact and left early all the time. That is stealing company time in my opinion.

Chewing. My husband's chewing specifically, because he's the only other adult in the house...but the sound of chewing really just gets to me like nails on a chalkboard sometimes. Ok, ok my husband tends to be a "smacker" too but he says it's just cause he loves my food. Sometimes it makes me so nuts I have to go into the other room. It has always bothered me though, from a young age I remember asking to be excused from the table so I didn't have to hear the food mash around in my little brother's mouth. It is so petty I wouldn't dare say it to anyone else. Except everyone on Mamapedia.

Not exactly the same brand of annoyance, but UGH.

I'd be just as annoyed as you were if that happened to me! Are you sure it was thrown away and not eaten by someone??? Mongolian Grill is yummy - I bet you have a Mongolian Grill thief on your hands! Forget the company fridge - from now on, bring your leftovers in a minicooler and keep with you at your desk! I know, that is so sad to have to do that, but that is the reality of the situation. You said leftover food sits in the company fridge for weeks, but not yours. Yours got "thrown" away the very next day? No it didn't! Someone definately ate it! Definately put your lunch in your own minicooler.

That makes me crazy... chances are, someone ATE it! Especially since this is the second time, someone likes Mongolian Grill!

I once had someone eat my homemade spaghetti and sausage and put the dirty container with the plastic fork they used back into the fridge... YUCK! Really, they have no idea that I put in that!

When I have leftovers now, I write the name of our CIO (on the same floor) on the top of my container :) Nobody has touched anything since I started that.

Good Luck!

I hate when someone walks in a door in front of you...knowing you are RIGHT behind them and they don't hold the door.

I also hate if I'm unintentionally blocking an isle or section at the grocery store and someone wants to get by but instead of just saying "excuse me" or "can you move your cart please"...they just stand there until you feel their eyes burning in the back of your head and you finally turn around and say "OMG...sorry!" And you really want to say "all you had to say was 'excuse me' and didn't need to stand there staring at me!!!"

UGH. I'm sure there are a million more I can add since I'm easily annoyed and very impatient but I have to run and pick up the kids!

Oh...that reminds me...WHO THE HELL DO THOSE MOMS THINK THEY ARE THAT THEY CAN DRIVE AROUND THE REST OF US MOMS IN THE PICK UP LANE AND PARK WHERE THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO TO GET THEIR KID???? Ok thanks...I feel better now....

I would be so mad if someone did that! I hate it! I am currently on hold to get my son a doctors apointment. I have been on hold for quite awhile, and have been transfered to 3 different people, put on hold each time. So annoyed right now!! Lol, feels good to get that out too. Thanks! Sorry people are throwing your lunch out, the least they could do like you said is leave a note on the fridge that it gets cleaned out once a week so have your food out by then. Or have everyone put a date on their food so after 5 days of it being in there it gets tossed.

Loud chewing (gum or food), all the water on the counter after my husband washes his hands, when my husband makes his plate and begins eating standing in the kitchen while we're all sitting (can't you wait until you sit down?).
My biggest peeve: When I talk to my MIL on the phone and she gets another call, she'll check caller id, and tell me she has to go or not (depending). THEN, when I call and it rings and rings, I know she has caller id and has checked it and decided not to click over for me! This really peeves me if she is babysitting my boys and she's ignoring my call!

Not that I ever want to receive a call from them but when a telemarketer calls you in the mddle of the day expecting to get someone on the phone who will give them money or buy something from them. Wouldnt their first clue be that obviously I dont have disposible income if I am at home at 2:00pm on a Wednesday. And when they call at dinner time I swear my blood boils a bit.

I suggest writing your name on it next time so if you get the "oops I didn't know if was yours" you can ask them how they missed the name on it. If this isn't a supervisor doing the cleaning, I would speak with them about it as well if it really bothers you.

Did you put your name and the date on your lunch?
If you know you're leaving some for leftovers, put the next day's date before you leave in the morning. "This is T.'s lunch for 4/7/11. DO NOT THROW IT AWAY!"
We have a big sign on our refrigerator at work that says "Anything without a name and not dated will go in the trash."
They did that because people were leaving things in there so long that it was rotting and no one else wanted to put their food in there.
We have people who keep yogurt in the refrigerator all the time and they just change the dates if they haven't eaten it. Yogurt can last a while.
If you suspect someone is eating your food, I might be tempted to leave a little left with some super hot sauce on it or something. The person with the runny eyes, nose and scrambling for water would be your culprit. Sounds mean, but they shouldn't touch your food.
Who cleans out the fridge? Why don't you just ask them?
In the mean time, put your name and date on things and see if it helps.

I have many little annoyances. I hate to even say it. One is someone in a huge, long line at the grocery store arguing over thinking something was 5 cents cheaper than it rang up so they insist on someone doing a price check while everyone else waits behind them. I'm not rich by any means, but I wouldn't hold up a whole line over 5 cents. You can go to customer service without ever leaving the store and haggle it out.
I went into a store on my half hour lunch and all I bought was deodorant because my favorite was on sale. I had one item. An old man behind me had a gallon of distilled water and the man behind him had a deli sandwich and a soda. We stood there for 15 minutes while the woman ahead of us haggled over the California Redemption Value of the soda cans she just purchased and the fact that the jug of orange juice she just bought didn't have a CRV value. Well, they got that straightened out and she started taking off without even paying so then she entered her store discount card and tried to walk off and finally pulled out her checkbook. She never once acknowledged that the line behind her was steadily growing with people who had only one or two things.
And yes, at work....I seem to be the only person who ever replaces toilet paper or puts paper in the copier and fax machines. If I've used a ton of paper, I always add more when I'm done, but no one else ever does that.
Staplers is another thing. I have to check every one that I might use because invariably they are empty. I guess it doesn't annoy me, it's just what I do.
This was a tough day, I probably shouldn't list what annoyed me.

I'm gonna try to let it go and have a better day tomorrow.
I hope you do the same.

I'm with the vote that somebody ate your lunch!

Anyways, I'm so annoyed by the people who DO leave their food in the fridge for weeks--I finally pushed the "higher ups" to enforce a "no label, we'll toss it" rule! (That was after I found a leftover salad that was covered in a blanket of mold!) We are ~40 people sharing one fridge and it gets packed!

I also hate traffic! It takes me 45min-1 hour to get home (25 miles away) because (WHY?) people drive 45 on the interstate, "forget" that one lane merges, slow down to gawk at accidents & stalled vehicles... etc, etc. On normal, non-traffic days (e.g. Saturday morning) it only takes me 20 min to go the same distance!

At home: It drives me nuts that I will wash clothes (2-4 loads) and have it all folded and put away... then *magically* another full basket appears of DH's dirty stuff (that he had stashed in the closet, under the bed, next to his nightstand, in his car, etc)!! I tell him, "You can wash that yourself, or it's going to wait until the next time I *feel like* doing a load of laundry!"
Oh, he also splashes water all over the sink and I hate it when I get out of the shower and my clothes are wet because I set them on the counter (in his puddles)!

I have lots of silly little things that shouldnt bug me but they do. I think the biggest one that gets me is when something stops working ( like a printer or the copier) and noone but me can pick up the phone and dial the number that is posted on the front and side and schedule a repair. Than they will ask me 15 times if i have placed a service call.
I also hate when people cant own up to what they did wrong. I got back from materinty leave and was blamed for several projects that werent done correctly. If i was not working and was in a hospital giving birth how was i supposed to make sure something was correct.

Just thought of another one thats just gross, when someone walks by you in the hall or comes in your office and farts and they say nothing, no excuse me, pardon me nothing ( this happened just this morning and it was gross and beyond rude)

My hubby never answers questions directly. If I say to him Why didn't you turn the light out in the bedroom? instead of answering he just gets up does it and never says anything. It drives me insane bc sometimes I really want to know why, what was your thought process! If I ask something like "Why are you going to call him?" He's response will be oh ok I won't..... This is funny and so true for me. I am the only one at work who replaces paper towels or does the dishes, even though I drink bottled water (not a tea/coffee drinker) so very rarely do I have dishes. I work with all guys and on the occasional, once in a blue moon occasion one of them does the dishes they parade around the office telling everyone. "Hey Joe, did those dishes, Hey Danny, got those dishes done, F. I washed that fork you used" WTH!!!! Do you want a friggin medal!!!! I also start an hour later than most of them and I don't mind picking up coffee/breakfast for them on my way in after dropping my dd off at school. But sometimes instead of texting or calling me while I am out, they wait till I have just taken my coat off and starting to sit down at my desk, then they ask me. Well when I first started I prob would have done it while thinking bad thoughts but now I tell them to get there own breakfast. lol I actually get on great with them but it is kind of like having 10 annoying brothers. Oh and god forbid when they have a little sniffle - they are practically on there death bed!! I also hate people outside my own family touching me. YIKES!!!

BAD GRAMMAR!! It's one thing if you are texting or posting to a blog (like this one!), but if you are sending an e-mail to everyone at work, why can't you check your grammar? Plurals are NEVER spelled with apostrophes (It's I ate 2 apples, not APPLE'S) and elipses (...) do not work in place of periods and capitalization. Also, learn the difference between it's and its; their, there, and they're; and your and you're. I get e-mails from co-workers that say something like, "C., you're paper's are dew Tuesday...make sure they're done...its really important...thanx."
Wow, and you're earning twice what I am? Good 2 no.

I would be totally angry if someone threw away my Mongolian Grill leftovers!!! I wouldn't consider that petty at all!

I don't remember ever having my lunch thrown away, but when I was in college, one of my co-workers did eat my lunch once. It was homemade beef tips and noodles, quite obviously no way to mistake that it WASN'T their lunch. He told me it had been in the refrigerator since the day before so he thought no one was going to eat it. Sheesh!! I made the guy who ate it take me out to lunch to make up for it. It wasn't until later that I realized he probably did it on purpose so he could have an excuse to take me out to lunch. ;-) LOL

Now, for my pet peeves (besides many of the great ones that have already been mentioned): I hate it when you're waiting in a long check out lane and they open the next one and instead of taking the next person in line, it's a free for all and the last person gets to jump ahead of everyone who's been waiting.

I hate when you buy a drink at a drive-thru and they don't fill it to the top.

I hate when people run into friends at the store and block the aisles or the shelf you need to get to while standing there talking. Same goes for people in cars. I was in a parking lot needing to turn right down a driveway next to a restaurant and this guy was standing next to a truck talking to the lady in it blocking the drive I needed to turn down. I honked, they wouldn't move. He just waved like "give me a minute". I waited. I honked again. Nothing. I yelled out my window for them to move. Nothing. I finally called the police 'cause I had already waited close to 10 minutes and I was getting mad. I think someone else must have complained before me because the police showed up within like a minute and made them move along.

I hate it when people don't wait their turn at a 4-way stop sign.

I hate it when the pharmacy had a problem filling your Rx but doesn't bother to call you to tell you and you show up to pick it up and it's not ready.

I hate when you order something at a restaurant and 10 or 15 minutes later when you're expecting your food, your waiter comes up and says "Oh, sorry, we don't have anymore of that. Would you like to order something else?" Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

I hate it when I'm in the middle of doing something, and someone (usually my husband or my mother) says "You need to (enter whatever it was I was already doing here)". Uh, I'm already doing it!!!!

I hate it when I'm either across the room, or in a completely different room, usually working, cooking or doing something else, and my kids come up and ask me to do something for them when my husband is sitting right next to them doing nothing. Why don't they ever ask the dad???

Oh my gosh, I could go on and on. I'm stressing myself out. Time to stop. Serenity now, serenity now - Ohmmmmmm.

N. :-)
