Hi! We had settled on the name Jada (Jay-duh) until recently got the suggestion for the name Jalynn (Jay-Lynn).

We really like both names but are at a roadblock! I have a 3 yr old son Jaden if that helps your decision. Any opinions are appreciated! Thanks!

I have a granddaughter named Jayelin (pronounced the same), I'd recommend a more traditional spelling, it took me forever to remember it. So I'm prejudiced to that name, but I want to offer my opinion on the rhyming names. I grew up with a brother named Larry (I'm T.) and I have grandkids who's names sound similar, it's very hard to get the attention of one when they both sound so similar. They kind of get immune to hearing the name called and mom's have to resort to first and middle names.
Also if you have another child they might feel different not having a rhyming name (I have a brother Steve, born 8 years after us, he used to want to be called a rhyming name too). I've heard a lot of Jalynn's since having one in the family if you are trying for an unusual name.

I didn't get to read all of your responses, so I am sorry if I repeat anything. I like Jalynn more than Jada because I liked to play with the names when I was picking out names for my children and trying to find things that kids woudl do to their names. And, well, Jada, the way that you spelled it to sound it out was the first thing that came to mind, Jay-DUH, and you know that there are going to be mean kids that would do that. Hopefully this helps. Congrats and best wishes!

For those who are saying that you will get the names mixed up because they are so close... that will probably happen no matter what! My mom did it to me and my three brothers (all start with A, but otherwise don't sound alike). And now, my three children have names that aren't similar (Dakota, Raven, and Sage), and I *still* trip over their names pretty often when I am trying to call one of them, lol. We laugh about it, so as long as you have a good sense of humor, I wouldn't worry about how close the names sound. Close *spelling* would be a bigger concern, due to school and medical records, as I think someone else mentioned.

I also like Jayla, a feminine form of Jay (but not the spelling Jaala, which means "wild she-goat" in Hebrew).

If you want the name to have a certain meaning, then Jada is a variant of Jade: a precious green stone, and Jalynn is the feminine variant of Jay, which means "to rejoice," and is also the name of a bird.

If meaning doesn't matter, then I would say wait until she is born and see which name "fits" her better--or let her brother choose between them! ;-)

Have fun, and good luck!

I of course like both of them since my 2 year old daughter's name is Jayden. I was stuck on all three of the name's that you have choosen. Just to thrown my opinion out there...I would go for Jalyn. No 2 n's. Or you could spell it Jalen. I perfer the Jalyn spelling. Jalyn is also a boy's name. One of my brother's friends was named Jalin. This way you now have 2 name's in your family that can be used again no matter if it is a boy or girl. Just think you could have a great-grandaughter named Jayden many years down the road. What a nice tradition to start for your family. By the way...I always get complimented on my daughter's name and her "almost" name of Jalyn.
Hope that helps! Have a great day!

They are both pretty names, but my suggestion is that if you already have a son named Jaden, don't use either one of them. I have two girls with R names (Rachel and Reece) and, even though they don't sound nearly as much alike as the ones you're considering, I get the wrong name EVERY time. When we had our third, we decided NO R-NAMES.
I also think kids like to think of their names as their own and not just a derivation of the older sibling's, so my advice is to come up with something different.

I would have to agree with most others, I think Jada sounds all too similar to Jaden. In my opinion Jalynn would be less confusing when saying their names. Best of luck to you. (Though now that I am saying them, Jalynn and Jaden sound almost the same too). It sure is hard to decide. I'm sure you already know the names are close to your sons name, so just go w/ what you like best. Both your kids will get used to what their name sounds like and won't confuse you for calling the other one. You're going to run through your kids names sometimes anyway when you're trying to call for the other one, at least my mom did all the time, and I find myself accidentally calling our son his cousins name. So why not keep the names more close together, it's less thinking on your part!! :) Congrats!!

Personally I think Jada and Jaden would be WAY too confusing!! We say our childrens names probably 100 times a day and having such similar sounding names is going to be tough! We have friends with a daughter Jalynn, which is cute, but still awfully similar to Jaden, especially since they rhyme. I have 3 boys, each with a one syllable name, and even that is terribly confusing for us and others. Sorry to be so blunt, but choosing a name is so important and you have to consider everything that comes along with it!! Good luck!

I have to friends with girls named Jay-Lynn. One spells it Jaylynn, the other spells it Jaelynn. BUT I also have a friend with a daughter named Jadalyn (Jade-a-lynn) LOL so it gets REAL confusing!! I think with having your son's name as Jaden, Jada, or Jalynn would be a bit confusing too? One might mistake you calling the other etc... Are you wanting to name them similar, or just use a J name? One of my son's friends is named Journey, and I think it's a cute name! She always gets compliments on it... Anyhow, I say name your kids wahtever you want, just remember they're the ones who have to live with it, and might not like their names being so similar!

I liked Jalynn better until you told me the big brothers name was Jaden...I think they may be too close in similiarities...try yelling the names through the house and see if your son can tell a difference? If they are too close I'd go with Jada...also, how do both of them sound when you combine with the middle and last name? Do they roll off the tongue just as easy? I loved Gabriella but when I put it with our last name it sounded to pretentious so we just went with Gabrielle...so glad I did b/c thanks to High School Musical everyone is a Gabriella now...lol

I agree w/many of your responses, as far as the confusion. Our son Jakob has a cousin Jack and when they're together every summer, OMG it gets soooo confusing hollering Jake & Jack - it's a tongue twister; HOWEVER, our other son's name is totally different, Camden and at home I say JaCamden or CaJakob all the time. I do think the closeness of Jake & Jack is worse though since they're so similar and think both girls' names are very cute, but awfully close. I think you'll be forever tongue-tied. But, name her whatever. Those are just my own experiences..... Best of luck on a healthy baby girl, whatever you name her!

As lovely as the name Jada is, I think it's entirely too similar to your son's name, Jaden, and will confuse the children, especially the girl as she's trying to learn her name or when they're older and you're calling out to them.

Between the two, I'd go with Jalynn. It should be different enough for the children to differentiate between and be individual enough that they each can feel like they have their own name.

I vote for the first one JADA. But... i have another suggestion... I would spell it like it sounds Jayda. Otherwise some people will try to pronounce it like it is spelled (jahduh). I know you are probably trying to make it more original... but NO kid wants to have thier name miss-pronounced and miss-spelled all thier lives! Keep it most like it sounds.

Now i am looking at your info and i see your son is Jaden. So... i am assuming that is why you want to spell Jada like you are. :) Maybe it won't be a problem. Good luck with your decision!

Hi K.,
Best of luck with your new daughter! I named my daughters Lisa and Becca and was forever calling them BLisa or LaBecca because I would start to call one and it was the other I meant to call, so it doesn't really matter if the names are similar or not. My youngest will sign cards and emails to me as LaBecca LOL, she'll never let me live it down...anyway, back to the question at hand...as usual I have a new perspective. How about Jazlyn?? That is granddaughter's name and I call her Jaz. I disliked it when my daughter announced that was the name they chose and I suggested many alternatives, which obviously were disregarded...(I wasn't very good at the reverse pyschology thing haha) anyway I love the name now and she gets so many commpliments...I just thought since it was similar to your two choices I would throw another one into the mix. Think about when you will be calling both kids names - Jaden and Jada sound very similar from a distance. Jalynn and Jaden ~ sound different. But both are great names. You will get a lot of opinions on the name from family and friends, too. My husband and I chose not to share our name choices until the child was born as they are uncommon names as well and we didn't want others to influence our decisions. So, happy deciding as whatever you choose will be right for your precious little one.
