IVF Cyle Delay Due to Ovarian Cyst

Hi-went for my baseline ultrasound yesterday and doctor discovered large ovarian cyst. He prescribed birth control pills for 2 weeks and then he will do another ultrasound. I am 39 and anxious to get started. Anyone else have this experience? Did you start the cycle relatively quickly after? Did you respond to the ovarian stimulation drugs well? Any insight is greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I started my first IVF cycle with stims on March 2nd and just had my embryo transfer yesterday. Here I am in the 2ww and I am feeling pretty good. Nervous of course but feeling like I have done all that I can and trying to accept that I have no control beyond resting and taking it easy. My beta is scheduled for April 1st so I will try to stay busy until then!

I had a delayed cycle due to a cyst. I waited a week and it went away on its own. Its not the best news and its hard to wait, but they do go away. If you want to talk in more detail, email me. I went thru 3 IVF cycles and now have 3 beautiful children. Good Luck!

I am an IVF veteran, and I had a cyst before starting as well. The cyst went away on its own and I was able to start the cycle as planned. I understand being anxious about starting ( we are starting again in a few months). The process is pretty nerve wrecking and can play a toll on you. If you need a support system, my Dr., Robert Kaufmann, has started a support group at his Infertility clinic. Also check out the SAIF (Success After Infertility) chat board on the Bump. http://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/community/default.aspx. Good luck!

Hi,
I did not have the same situation, but did hit a few bumps int he road during my IVF cycle. I just want to offer some positive insight...after all the delays and waiting my twins are now 2 1/2! Just be positive and trust the doctors. I know, I really know how hard it is and how strssful it can be. Most of all I understand the anxiety!!! Agghh. It can be soo frustrating. Just trusdt that they know what they are doing and are keeping your health in mind by waiting a little bit. Don't paya ttention to all the negative stories peopel feel the need to share. You are going through IVF b/c YOU made this choice and it is what works for you. Focus on that and not others opinions on whether or not you shoudl be doing it. Yes, we all know how difficult it is. Lets provide her with supprot and encouragement not stories of negativity. Know that what you are doing is right for you and It will all work out and I'm sure you'll have good news soon. Feel free to contact me if you need to talk!!!

My twins, now 9yo, were born from IVF. I responded great to the stimulation, had 12 eggs, 9 grew into embyros, put 2 back and got 2. I didn't have to do birth control then because of cyst, but I have them now really bad and that is one option we've talked about. You want those cyst gone, which is what BC does, it shrinks them. So, I'm sure you'll respond well to the BC and the cyst will be gone and then you can start your cycle without any worries about those things, there's enough to worry about without having those as well. GOODLUCK

I had the exact same experience. I have endo and eventually needed surgery to remove the cyst. BUT I responded to the drugs well and have a baby girl. I know the delay is frustrating but a cyst can be painful during stimulation and uncomfortable during pregnancy at best (dangerous at worst). Good luck!

Hi - I went through the fertility process - from clomid to IVF...now have beautiful 13-month-old triplets! As daunting as multilpes can be at times, it is a relief to know I will never have to go through this process again! I never had a cyst, but at some point (I did fertility for 2 years before conceiving), they put me on birth control pills for a cycle to give my body a break, which seemed ridiculous to me at the time, and very frustrating. I responded well to the stim drugs, but it just took a while to work. I did IVF twice...the first time produced 7 viable embryos, they implanted 3 the first cycle, nothing took, then four the next cycle, nothing took. The second IVF only produced 3 embryos, they implanted them all, and they all took! I know this can be an emotional rollercoaster, but when it finally works out, it is amazing! No matter how devestated I was every month it didn't work, I always tried to keep a positive attitude, saying to myself, "This will happen, it's just a matter of when". Hope this helps - Good Luck!

Hi A.:

Your body is communicating with you. There is a present health challenge/block in your reproductive system/ovaries. Your body is asking for healing at this time. And once you have addressed the cyst, I encourage you to explore safer methods to conceive. A major negative effect with IVF is hyperstimulation of the ovaries. The ovaries can get extremely enlarged and twisted with pain and emotional disburbances.

Please learn more on my website and see if my services can assist you to safely heal the cyst and conceive.

All the best,
N.

I've been there too! In the midst of the fertility drugs and inseminations i had one cycle where we had to stop because of a few cysts. The cysts cleared up on one round of birth control. We had a few more unsuccessful IUIs after that, then last June/July we went the route of IVF and we now have 6 week old preemie twins!
Good luck, i know how much of a rollercoaster infertility can be and how eager you are to get on with it. It seems so counterproductive and frustrating to have to use birth control while you're desperate to be pregnant... but soon you'll be in my place and looking back on this chapeter of your experience as just a memory!
Keep us posted!

I am a surivor of IVF, inseminations, trials, pills exc for over 7 yrs, It wired me up, sex scheduled, when to, when not to, getting husband home in time to give me the shots. I remember having at least 6 cycles including 2 rounds of IVF. IF I was more open minded to adoption or was even councled on it, I would of skipped all the maddness regarding IVF and infertility period. I was dead set on getting pregant. I can not remember what friend said, "DO you want a pregancy or a baby?" That was the wake up call. The IVF drs give you many false hopes and take much money, not to mention the toll on the finances and family and maritial relationship, at some point one of you will blame each other for the failure. Its an all encompassing process that normally does not end in good results. I wish you the best, Mom to 3 adopted children, Ethiopia @ China ourdaughterfromethiopia.blogspot.com I would be hapy to advise you if you choose a different path my email is ____@____.com,.com

i also had a delayed cycle due to a cyst. i did then take about two weeks of birth control. went back for further evaluation and was told all was ok and we began the process about a month later. i was completely confused and at the time i worried that my experience with IVF would be a constant disappointment. my response to the drugs was positive although my egg count was low and only had three eggs fertilize, i am happy to say that we now have 16month old twins boys that are the light of our lives. it really is an emotional roller coaster!! surround yourself with uplifting people!! you are more than welcome to contact me if you would like ask any questions. Good Luck!!!!!!
