My sil got pregnant w/an IUD...she'd had it in for over a year, maybe 2 yrs. Without her realizing it, it has slipped out of position, allowing her to become pregnant. She found out when she had an early miscarriage. Having said that...depending on what type of IUD you have in, you may stop getting periods altogether. I think the Mirena IUD is supposed to gradually completely elimate periods.

Although a bit uncomfortable at first, I like the IUD-mirena. The Dr. told me that eventually I would not get a period, every woman is different as to when that would happen. She also said that getting pregnant on mirena is like the imaculate conception. Just call your OB for a quick question.

Go back to your OB/GYN because they should have told you that your periods are going to be irregular for I believe six months to a year... IUD has the hormones in it so it takes a while for body to adjust to the new "DEVICE" in it. I think that's the whole reasoning. But check again with your OB doc.

Mine was like that at first, very irregular... but now my periods are long ( 7 glorious days... LOL )and heavy too. I have had it now two years now!

I have an IUD, too, and I have only had one or 2 periods since I got it...one right away and one recently. I've had it for almost a year. I think they're sporadic when you use this type of BC. Take a test to rest your mind, but I'm sure you're fine! I freaked out every month for a little while but I'm finally used to it!

If you are pregnant you need to know asap and you need to let your doctor know asap. It is possible to get pregnant with an IUD but the sooner the removal is done better for baby.

My daughter is 12 mos and I had one period in March but not again yet. I remember from last time that my periods were kind of erratic when they returned (I was/am breastfeeding and I know that affects menstruation). I use BBT so I know I am not pregnant, my cycles are just adjusting. Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler (http://www.tcoyf.com/); it will help you understand everything that your body goes through each cycle.

Your periods have probably just stopped. I have an IUD and about after having it in for 1 yr my periods stopped totally. I still go through mood swings and such once a month, just without the bleeding. The chance of getting pregnant is slim to none, but does happen. But I think its just stopped now due to the IUD.

I had an IUD for 3 years and had it removed last month, we want to go for # 2! One thing I can tell you is that once in a while, I would get my periods when I had the IUD in. The best thing you can do is this, 1st, check if the cords are still in place, you should be able to feel them with the tip of your fingers; 2nd, take a pharmacy pregnancy test, you want to know as early as possible if you are part of the statistics that do get pregnant; 3rd, if you really want to be sure, go see your doctor, only he/her can guarantee that the device in correctly in place and whether you are pregnant or not.

Odds are, you're not! Keep me posted!

I've had one in for over a year, and had crazy flows for a while. My are at a point where most months if I'm not really paying attention, I'd miss it, then about 4 times a year I have what I would consider a normal period. At my last GYN visit I asked my Dr. about this - and she said that it was normal.

It freaked me out for awhile too. This coming from the women who got prego while on the pill at the age of 40. Go figure...

I love my IUD! Whish I'd had one of these years ago!!! But... Call your Dr. if you are worried!! Probably just the way your body is dealing with the IUD, but why fret over it - call...

Hi E., I do know you CAN get pregnant with the IUD because that happened to my sister. For some reason the IUD moved and that caused it. After taking the pregnancy test she just went to her doctor and got it removed. Her son is awesome and gorgeous so don't feel something will happen to the baby if you are pregnant with the IUD. Take the test so you know for sure and if you ARE pregnant, CONGRATULATIONS! Just make an appointment to get it removed ASAP.

E.,

I personally have not gotten pregnant on the IUD, but I have a very good friend who did the same thing you did and she got pregnant when her daughter was only 8 months.. So take the test and good luck.

It is possible to get pregnant while using an IUD, but it is VERY unlikely. It is more likely that you just aren't having a regular period cycle. I am using the Mirena (IUD w/ hormones in it) and have very little spotting and even that is sporadic. Which my doctor told me to expect, that it is perfectly normal. If you are using that particular IUD, some women never have periods at all. But if you are really worried, take the test sooner than later, if you do get pregnant while using an IUD, you need to see your doctor immediately! Were you having periods regularly before last month? If so, take the test, if not, I would say last month's period was the exception, not the rule. I'm not a doctor, but that is my understanding when it comes to IUDs

when u first have an IUD your period will take a time or two to stablize. I had 1 for 3 years and became pregnant, started hemoraging, and was told by Dr. because I was henoraging to abort the fetus because both of us could die. I had 1 and was told it was embedded in the fetus. Sorry and i do not want to scare you !!!!! Go to Dr. and find out what is going on....or at least call your Dr. and ask the nurse about your concern with your period. GOOD LUCK
