hi, those of u with the IUD, do u get periods? do you skip periods? I got it 11 months ago, when i got it i was told that my period were going to be light, some friends even told me that i was not going to have them anymore. Well, i was getting light periods since i got it and its been two months that i haven't gotten a period. But i was sure cramping last week. IDK whats going on. Idk if this is the IUD or if i could be prego. I 'm also sick with the flu, the last time i got sick i was three months prego. My boobs were very sensitive earlier this week, not anymore. Please tell me your experience with the IUD..thanks

What can I do next?

I had my iud insertated 2 months after the birth of my first and only child. I kept my iud in for 1 and 1/2 years. During that time I had cramping that could be very painful and ones that were more like a period cramp. I had light periods at first then eventually went to having no periods at all. I also at one time that I could have conceived with the iud and I was concerned and went to my OBGYN. They did an interanl ultrasound and pregnancy test and I was not pregnant. My Ob told me that my cramping and no periods were common for women with an iud. I hope this helps!

With the Mirena IUD, I am pretty sure you still have your monthly symptoms of having a period (cramping, bloating, all that fun stuff)(thats what my obgyn told me). Mirena has only a small amount of hormones in it, that is the only reason I was able to get it because birth control makes me so unbelievably sick.

I still had a period on mirena. But, I've also had a period and spotting for 20 months, and it had nothing to do with the IUD. I had two of them put in at two different times, to see if that was the cause from my bleeding, unfortunately that wasn't the case.

HI Krys,
I had the mIrena for over a year and did not have periods, which was great. I did however, gain lots of weight, which is why I recently had it removed. I wish you the best.

When I had the Mirena I was never lucky enough not to get a period, and I still got cramps. A friend of mine hasn't had a period in 4 years (lucky duck). She took preg tests the first few months because it freaked her out but she relaxed after a while. My boobs would also get sensitive during ovulation and before my period.

I have had the copper one inserted - I am afraid of what hormones can do to me - already have my share of hormonal issues and did not want to add some potential problems to the equation. I had it inserted one month after the birth of my second child.
So when inserted, for several weeks, I had some mild to medium cramping. Like period type of cramping. I do not recall if other symptoms (breast tenderness or other). And for about 6 months, I had some irregular periods, and really heavy bleeding. To the point where I requested a scan (I am something to worry about: my mom had uterine cancer, I had fibroids and also PCOS). So was told all normal. Then since the scan my periods flow is rather normal. I also noticed that if I have vaginal exam I can feel the cord being pulled.
Hoping this helps!

Cheers
