iTunes

My boys had birthdays and received lots and lots of iTunes cards. Way more iTunes than they could possibly ever use. What can we do with them? They can't be returned. The boys only have so much space on their iPods. I'm not very familiar with Apple products. What to do with them?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Obviously I do not know much about iStuff. My older son has an 8G iPod Touch, and my younger son just got a 16G iPod Touch. My older son will also be getting an iPad mini from school in the fall, and will be allowed to put apps and such on that. He says his 8G is getting full, mostly apps and games as he watches music videos on youtube instead of buying music. Anyway, does he have to delete apps to make room for new ones? If my van has a memory could we watch iTunes movies in the van? I am so not good with this stuff!!!

You/they can simply delete, what is on their iPods or uninstall them.
iPods holds a lot though.

I would have them, get rid of/delete what they no longer use.
Just like cleaning out an overstocked closet.
Then, with their iTunes gift cards, they CAN get more/new things.
I would love to have that!

Or, just go to an Apple store.
And they can tell you, how to do it.
They are very helpful.

You can purchase movies, TV shows and books as well as music, and all those can be viewed on a laptop, any PC or iPad, wherever you access your iTunes account from.

I hope your boys got some fun things besides an iTunes overload for their birthdays!

Unless they received THOUSANDS of dollars in iTunes gift cards they didn't get more than they can possibly use!!!!! Even then, I could EASILY buy "upgrades" and "tokens" for games to spend fun money (if I had it) :-)

If they have the better iPods they can buy apps.... what type of ipod and what size is it?

Even the SMALLEST ipod (the mini) is 2gb which is about 500 songs.

Unless they just aren't "into" music (which again.... I don't understand. I don't know ANY kids that aren't into music), or are quite young (like 5 or 6)... then you might have a problem.

They can buy books, too. You just buy the app and then purchase the books.

You can load the gift cards into iTunes so that you see the balance getting smaller as they purchase. If they don't each have their own iTunes account, you'll want to keep a spreadsheet of purchases so you know who spent what.

The other thing that you can do is regift them. YOU "buy" the gift cards from your boys and then give them as gifts throughout the year. ANY Tween on up would LOVE an iTunes gift card.

I wouldn't swap - you typically lose money on those sites. I'm not sure how that works, though.

If you go to www.apple.com/ipodclassic/specs.html it will tell you for each iPod what the capability is (for example can you buy books, movies, apps etc). That would at least enable you to determine WHAT your boys can buy.

Have fun!

At the end of the day if you really think you can not find a single use for them ... I can give you a P.O. Box to send them too ;)

Honestly, iTunes stores all of your stuff even if it's not on your iPod at that very moment. You can still access it on the computer. Just spend away!

You can use iTunes to take off and put on anything in your library that you have purchased. You don't have to have it all on there at one time. All of you purchase are accounted for and can be accessed at any time. Just like you never have every CD you own in your car, you don't have every song you own on your ipod.
You can buy music, movies, TV shows, books, in game upgrades. Take a look at the iTunes store. I am sure they can find something :)

Oh wow... you need to take a look around in the iTunes store. Yes, if you have kids who are judicious in how they spend their money, it might take them a little while to use it all. But maybe not as long as you think, either.

If your son is getting an Ipad he can link to your home itunes account, he can buy books for it from iTunes. TONS of books to choose from. And they aren't always cheap... on average, for kids, probably $9 or so a piece(?). Depends on what they like to read.

And games... whooooo boy! There are always apps the kids want. And my kids come to me almost daily for this or that song. Most are $1.29. That adds up... or you can go ahead and buy the entire album even.

Heck.... you could even buy them from the boys yourself, and get some games or apps for yourself! Do you exercise? Get some apps that track your exercise/calories, etc.

Or if you truly have a super-abundance of them... hundreds of dollars worth... you could buy them from the boys (let them save some of the money and spend some on other things) and use them as gifts for other occasions. LOTS of kids would love a $10 or $15 itunes card for a birthday gift.

I think there is more space than you are aware of. Keep them ans use them. Have them delete what they don't want and download all of the photos and videos. They take up a lot of space.

Do you realize how many songs an iPod can hold?
A LOT more than you think!
I think there are websites where you can swap gift cards though.

Save them and regift but I honestly think they will use them up.

I don't use the itune dollars for music anymore-go to your local library and just get the CD-that frees up the $ for apps and movies and such.

The apps then can get saved in his itunes on the computer so that if he does delete one and wants it back-he just has to move it from the computer back to the ipod. And my understanding is that up to five ipods can share the apps-so you only have to pay once.

I'm in the process of figuring how to get my itunes onto my Samsung so can't help you out with the movie in your van question.

I would definitely load them on your sons itune account.

Like others have said, whatever you purchase or whatever is already on your sons ipods can be deleted and also added back on without any problems. I'm not sure how it effects where they are at in the game if not saved on game center though. So just be careful of that.

My kids if they had extra itunes credit would enjoy renting new movies to watch on their ipods.

I would also definitely save it for your sons mind Ipad there are a lot of educational applications that he can purchase to help with school. I'm sure the school will even suggest some.

I LOVE getting iTunes gift cards. I have an iMac, an iPad, old iPod and Apple TV. So, what I do with them when I'm not getting apps for me or the kids, I get books (to read in iBooks) or movies. I don't even buy DVD's or BluRay because all my movies are on the computer. And if they want movies, you can put only what they want on it (not like you have to put all the movies they get on it). And you can rent them like someone else suggested. You would have to watch on their iPods or on the computer. If you have an Apple TV then everyone can watch it from the TV. My sister has an iPad and got a digital movie along with a DVD she bought so she put it on her iPad and since I had the Apple TV, she was able to play the movie from her iPad to my Apple TV... was pretty cool and there was no quality issues or anything. Oh, and if they like magazines, you can also get some magazines through iTunes store too. Kinda small to view on the iPod, but not too bad if you are used to looking at a small screen (I did it for a while).
