Items for Treat Bags

I have to send in 28 items for treat bags to my sons school. It can't be food or candy. It has to be something like pencils or stickers. I don't want to do pencils or stickers because he gets at least 10 pencils every school year and lots of stickers.

Does anyone have any fabulous ideas? Where could I find those items without spending a lot of money. He is in the fourth grade.

What can I do next?

my dd once got a small container of playdoh and a plastic cookie cutter to go with it in a goodie bag from preschool. I thought it was genius and a lot better than all the stickers and pencils, cause you're right, everyone does that.

I teach 4/5 & also have a 4th grade daughter. I disagree with the other mom and I believe toys would be appealing for them (they're kids & LOVE toys). Target has the $1 bins & I've also gone to Wal-Mart by the party section & gotten bags of items (i.e. bouncy balls, bubbles, whistles, etc.) They usually come in an 8 or 12 pack. Oriental Trading Co. is a catalog that has cheap stuff, it's probably too late now, but maybe for the next party. Good luck!

THE DOLLAR STORE!! I helped w/ parties and I always found tons of stuff there for treat bags!

Might also ask some businesses if they would be willing to donate things like coupons........from Dairy Queen.......free cone, etc.

What about having a book mark that they can decorate or maybe activity books. While I relize even at the dollar store it would be $28 and I don't know if that is in your budget. You could go to teacher supply stores or Christian book stores or even Hobby Lobby and they may have kits for 6 to 8 people to do. You could try calling the teacher to see if there is time during the day for a craft project.

Has the class read "Polar Express"?
You could get little silver jingle bells tied with red ribbon. My mom used to teach 3rd grade and every year they read that. In their goody bags they got at their Christmas party, she always put little silver bells in their bags.

Gosh by fourth grade, I don't think little toys would really be that appealing. Probably end up in the garbage honestly, sorry. They seem kind of old for playdoh and stickers, imho. Is there something you could donate to the entire class in your son's name, like maybe some cool/popular books for the class library? Only gift type thing I can think of that is cheap for each kid would maybe be those $1 certificates to McDonalds?

dollar store!!!! Their toy section has the best goodie bag things... small, cheap, and amuses the kids and the parents don't feel bad throwing them away when they break! You could even get books for all the kids from there... Or a notepad...

What about little containers of play-dough, deck of cards, kids like trading cards too-like baseball, fav movie, football etc.(dollar tree has them), fruit snacks (its not candy) small notepad with cool pen. You could get all of these items at the dollar tree or a party store. Target even has an isle for party favors and items under a buck.

Good luck.

crayons - you might be able to find those 4 packs they give in restaurants
book marker
activity book - word find, connect the dots, etc
small notepad
mini bottle of bubbles
rulers (I found some 6" rulers and in the center were cut out shapes you could trace)

can you get separate items for boys and for girls, for girls
lip balm
hair ties/scrunchies
bracelets

I would check out the dollar store or dollar section of Target. You might find some of these items in packages that you could break open and divide. Walgreens used to have inexpensive activity books.

You may want to check out oriental trading. It's probably too late to order, but it may give you some ideas.

Can you team up with another mom or two? Rather then sending in something cheap that goes into the garbage, you get something useful.

Any if he goes to a public school, you don't have to send in anything. You can choose to send in something.

You could go to a local craft store such as Michael's, Hobby Lobby, or a sewing supply store. If you spend a little time walking around, you will. Find that there are plenty of small notions in a wide variety of categories that could be used in party bags. When I have done this, I. don't usually spend more than $10 to $20.
