It's Just Not Christmas Until.......

.....my back has snapped at the spine from hunching over while wrapping presents. (That's my task for today, but sure enough, it happens every year! )

It's the signal to me that, ready or not, HERE COMES CHRISTMAS!

It might be sitting in church on Christmas Eve, tasting that particular baked goodie that someone in your family ONLY makes for Christmas, watching your kids unwrap stuff on Christmas morning.....

So for YOU, how would you finish this sentence: It's just not Christmas until........?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

H&HMomma--your response made me laugh. Growing up, the expression in our house was: It's just not Christmas (or Thanksgiving, or dinner, or Wednesday) til SOMEONE cries!

I cry. LOL

Usually it's the day after Christmas but I always, always, always get the post holiday blues and end up spending a bit of time crying...it never fails.

On the non-emotional side - when it FINALLY snows - always makes me feel like Christmas is right around the corner.

Love it! You are so right about that. Maybe this year I will wrap them at the table instead of hunching over on the floor...my kids and husband are going out of town for a day this week so I can pull everything out instead of locking myself up in a bedroom to wrap gifts.

It's not Christmas until....

I have gained 5 pounds from all the holiday treats
I cuss out my sewing machine after trying to make something crafty for the holidays
I decide I can't stand anyone (don't worry, I will like y'all again after the holidays!)
I decide I need to go on a fast/cleanse/get on an antidepressant/rethink my life... The holidays just seem to hit me HARD! UGH!

At my house its not Christmas until we put kids in pjs, grab some hot chocolate and go see the lights in the famous neighborhoods.

At my in-laws, God Love-em, it's not Christmas until someone is pissed off at someone else.

Thanksgiving ends? :P

Ok, seriously: The day after Thanksgiving, still bleary eyed from Black Friday shopping and reveling in my "spoils of war" as Jeremy calls it, the tree is lit, the first batch of cocoa is on the stove, and my song: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)--the 1963 version by Darlene Love is cranked. (It is only ok if U2 covers it, otherwise, it just has to be her). I guess at THAT moment, right as I start to dance with Jeremy to my song, glancing over his shoulder and seeing my oldest son peeking over with a smile...that's when Christmas season has officially begun to me.

Till the kids and I have cuddled up on the couch together with iced sugar cookies, hot chocolate and our movie blankies in our PJs and watch the Nutcracker and White Christmas!

We made the sugar cookies last night! I'm getting ready to make the icing in a few minutes and we're all going to curl up on the couch in a little bit!

The other would be--
Till we've delivered all our Christmas cookies! (And we did that this morning!)

Sitting in church at 11 pm when the Christmas carols start and continue until the midnite Mass. LOVE IT! Haven't done it since our kids were born, so our new signal is when my oldest rouses us from our sleep on Christmas morning and is so excited to go see what Santa brought.

I got the aching back last night (wrapping gifts in the living room floor). :)

ETA: (don't know how I forgot this).. until hubby discovers a gift by ordering something online for himself from the same place, i.e., Barnes & Noble, and then looking at the "orders" section of our account to find when he should expect to see what HE ordered! Ugh. It's finally Christmas today!

On a side note, I wasn't really feeling the Christmas spirit today as I had to jump on an early work call. I read your post & it made me laugh & put me back in the Christmas spirit. Thanks!

...until we send off a letter to Santa and go get pizza afterward to celebrate...

...until my husband and I laughingly quarrel over the last of Kiddo's photos to send in the mail... always too many cards and not enough pics...

...until we are seen sipping from a flask while dealing with the crazy crowds on Christmas Eve night, walking to look at the lights on Peacock Lane (they light up all the houses on both sides of the street for the holiday)...
