I will also asure you that there is not something MAGIC that happens with babies digestive system that on theiir first birthday they can automatically tolerate whole milk sorry but i just dont agree... I have a son who was newly diagnosed with allergies to milk and I do know that milk allergies are cumlative, meaning the the more they have the more the reaction could be. It does sound like there may be a problem because my son could have some of those products w/o a reaction but the milk itself will cause a problem. Also you should try mixing the milk with formula to help introduce it slowly. If you continue to see a problem a blood test will determine an allergy.

Doctors recommend that a child's liquid calories should come from formula until they are a year old anyway, and then at that point they are supposed to have whole milk because they need the fat calories for their growing brains and bodies.

Hi L.! I had a similar problem, but with spitting up instead of pooping. She ate all dairy products, but when I gave her milk in a cup, she would spit up. I have tried to slowly integrate it into ther diet, by mixing it with her formula, making oatmeal and cream of wheat with it... things like that. It's been fine, so I'm going to gradually increase the amount of milk and decrease the formula in her sippy cup and see how that goes. Good luck!!

NO, if she were allergic to milk, it would be in any dairy products she eats. It may have been something else she ate or maybe she had a little diarrhea virus.

It may be lactose intollerance.

First of all, I would wait to even try milk until at least 1 yr. of age. Then make a slow transition from formula to milk. Instead of 4 oz. of formula, give her 3 oz. of formula with 1 ounce of milk, for a week, then 2 oz. of each for a week, then 1 oz. of formula and 3 oz. of milk.
USE WHOLE MILK They NEED the fat in whole milk until at least age 3.
Just hold off on milk altogether until 1 yr. old.

There is a chance of a reaction to the milk that early on. You should not give milk to a baby under 1 yr old. The other dairy products should be slowly introduced over a period of time to see if she has any reaction occurs. It is hard to say for sure, but I would give her some ice cream, wait a couple of days and see how she is. If she is ok, try some cheese and go from there. If she seems ok with the other stuff then try the milk again and see what happens. She should really still be on formula though being that she is only 10 months old. The milk is not going to give her all the nutrients she still needs at this age.

I don't think it's an allergy. Kiddos under a year should not have straight cow's milk, the proteins are very difficult to digest. When milk is added to products, it is processed in different ways. In general, people who are lactose intolerant are able to eat some cheeses without difficulty, as well as yogurt. I would just continue to give her dairy sources as you have been, and wait until after her birthday to give straight milk. Good luck!

It is possible that she could be lactose intollerent or have a milk allergy. My son had a milk allergy (I believe, although they told me he was just intollerent) and he could handle yogurt and other things just not straight milk. I was told that the proteins in cheese and yogurt were easier to digest than that in milk. The reason I believe that he had a milk allergy is because my daughter was tested and came back positive for a milk allergy and through my research he had all of the classic symptoms of a milk allergy. I have read that a milk allergy could be caused by starting milk too soon. Don't try it until she is at least a year old. When I made my kids baby food I would use milk and cheese in it sometimes and my daughter couldn't handle any of it. Go to www.godairyfree.com it is a great website that has lots of info on milk allergies.

She may be reacting to the milk protein, casein. Casein is changed when the milk is made into yogurt, cottage cheese or cheese, so she may not react to those. I have a casein allergy and I avoid milk but can eat the other stuff just fine. Good luck!

Hello! My son was the same way. He loves yogurt & cheese. When I introduced mike at 18 months he also got diarria & a really bad diaper rash. I tried the milk at a year but he just didn't like it. So I used the Carnation Next Step. It is a little cheaper that formula & it really helped him transition to milk. When your little one is ready for milk make sure you give her whole milk. Their little brains need the fat to develop. Try mixing half with formula for a week, then 75/25 the next & so on till it's all milk. See how her body adjusts to it then move on. Good luck

the protein in cows milk is too hard for a baby to digest. That's why its suggested to avoid milk until after 12 months. Your daughter might just be a little too young to handle it now. my daughter is the same age. She eats dairy, but not milk yet.

The same thing happened to my daughter. Our doctor told us that she could start on whole milk at her 9mo visit. When I switched her to milk she had horrible stomach issues. She was already eating yogurt and cheese (sometimes ice cream) so I didn't think it would bother her. I stopped giving her whole milk and gave her formula until right before her 1st birthday. Now that she is 13mo she drinks milk just fine and hasn't seemed to have a problem. I don't think that her stomach was ready for milk yet. I waited until my oldest daughter was one before she had milk so I probably should have waited with my second. Lesson learned. Good luck with you little one.

Could have been the milk......different brand??? Even the difference in processing (chemicals used) can make someone allergic or intolerant to a specific brand, but not others......OR.......what other things....chemicals, plants, etc was she exposed to during that same time?

Most pediatricians will advise that parents wait until one year of age to give milk, and then when given, to give whole milk. Her digestive system is probably still too immature to handle milk in this form (other milk products such as cheese and yogurt are different). Wait til one year to replace formula or breastmilk.

Hi L..
I have the same issue myself. I can eat cheese, yogurt, ice cream etc. But for some reason if I down a big old glass of milk, my stomach will be in knots and I am running to the bathroom every two minutes. So, medically I am not sure what the explanation is, but I do know it happens.

Milk is processed differently from what I have been told. My daughter only has a problem with Dairy Queen ice cream-lol, but if fine with all the rest. Maybe its too much at one time? I would just ask the dr's office.

she could have an allergy to the protein in cow's milk like my son does..my son can eat cheese, yogurt but milk makes him throw up everywhere..have your doctor run some tests to determine if there is a protein allergy...by the way i also don't agree with the magical changing of babies digestive tracts at 1 year old or that introducing milk before 1 year will increase their chance of being allergic...if they are gonna be allergic to it then they will be even if you waited until they were 10 to give them milk!! besides my pediatrician told me my son can have milk by 10 months of age not 1 year so i think it depends on the doctor its all just an opinion besides you should follow your own instinct no one knows your baby better than you after all....GOOD LUCK!!!

This is exactly why doctors tell you to wait until a year!!! Processed dairy is fine, but straight milk is not. Wait until she's old enough and stick to breastfeeding or formula.

Hello L.. If this was the first time for her to have straight milk it might have just been to h*** o* her system. My now 5yo switched from formula to cows milk at 10months, but I mixed the two together at first to give her system time to adjust. I personally haven't known anyone to be able to adjust dairy products except regular milk, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible because anything is possible :) I would try to mix the cows milk with breastmilk or formula if possible for a bit and see how that works.
PS...how do you balance 7 children?? I feal like I am drowning with my 4 :(

I believe that there CAN be an intolerance to milk. I found out that out the hard way when I myself was in first grade. I can eat ANY kind of dairy, but I CANNOT drink milk. My kids have yet to show any signs of this, but I guess we'll wait and see. I started my daughter on milk before she was 1 y/o as well, but I gave her vitamin D to start with and did it in small doses. They need the fats and nutrients that are in the Vitamin D milk. I mix 1/4 milk to 3/4 formula for three days, 1/2 and 1/2 for three days, 3/4 milk to 1/4 formula for 3 days and then just 1/2 a cup/bottle after that and gradually increased the amount of milk that she had at one time. She is now 2 y/o and drinks 2% and does just fine.

It could be a case of this wonderful virus that is going around and nothing was wrong with the milk. It could be the milk was on the verge of going bad. I would try her on 2% again and see what happens. If it happens again then I would try Skim or Fat Free milk with her. I realized that the processing is different in cheese, yogurt, etc., than it is in milk. I mixed milk with formula to introduce it.

I think you should read up on the negatives about dairy products for our children. Since they use so many antibiotics in cows, and also growth hormones, our daughters are maturing earlier than ever; and some antibiotics (which should be used sparingly) don't work because of our children becoming immune to them through the milk.

For more information you can google the neg. effects of dairy products on our kids...

Wait until after she is 1yr to give her milk. Giving it to her sooner not only increases her chances at having a milk allergy, but her body is not quite ready to digest the milk proteins. Just setting her up for a big failure in the milk dept. Don't rush her. If she already had an allergy then she would react to the other milk based products, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Sounds like you may have gotten a bad jug of milk. Maybe her tummy is the only one sensitive enough to tell. It can happen. But I don't think it is an allergic reaction, after all this time.
