Is This Job Safe to Take On?

I just got a job offer to oversee all of the teachers and their classrooms to make sure they are following and completing the lesson plans correctly at a daycare, and to be the primary kindergarten teacher. It pays the same as if I were to work at my former job, just as a teacher. The first job, the new one, is at a center that is so unorganized, I could find a reason for every employee including the mangers to be fired on the spot. Its scary because, the center doesn't provide a safe environment for the kids at all! I don't want that to reflect badly on me, yet if I can turn that around, it would reflect wonderfully on me, and i'd have that title on my resume. I don't know what to do. I think part of me is afraid to try something newer than my familiar environment, but the other part of me is afraid to step into something that will compromise my reputation as a credible teacher. should I jump in and tread the waters, or hold back and do what I know I am absolutely comfortable doing?

So What Happened?

I want to thank all of you for your encouragement! I did, however, go back to the daycare as a teacher. I realized that my heart belongs to the children, and I don't think I could really dive into focusing on them if I put half of my time into making sure the teachers were following protocal. I like being in a classroom... I love being a part of that. My roomate was one an assistant manager for 1 month, and ended up leaving because she was too stressed out with trying to handle such a mess! So, I feel good about my decision, and I think I'll be happier in the class all day. I'm excited to start next week!

Hey A.;

I am known as kind of a "fix-it guy" at my occupation, and that's a great title to have on your resume as long as it is your's AND the hiring manager's intentions. I wrote a book in my industry called "service Writing in Black and White", but in my position at Don Chalmers Ford -- I am just another advisor. Make Sense?

If you are just going to have a position with out the set goal of improvement ---- move on. If on the other hand the challenge is accepted by both parties to improve --- rock it.

There arent enough people in the world work honest work ethics and I applaud yours!!

Personally I feel that you should go for it. With the agreement that you have complete authority to make all changes you feel necessary. Then get in there and make it happen. Be those kids hero it sounds like they need one.

good luck

Talk to the people who would hire you. Ask them specific questions - "What would be my authority in the case of..." It can be something you've seen there, but I'd go more on the "made up" side of it. This way you can get a feel for your level of authority. Also, I'd ask them to put that into writing what they are telling you - or, take in a small tape recorded - you can record any conversation you are a part of. Then, IF the stuff comes down the pike, you've got back up. But, I think that you sound interested in this job - for a number of reasons. Feel out their idea of what you have authority over, and if you're comfortable with it - I'd say go for it!! Don't live your life undera cloud of timidity - it sucks! And you'll look back at a life of regrets.
