Is There Such Thing as Not Oily Sunscreen??

I have a red headed baby so sun and us is a lot of fun. (I'm half mexican and I have to stand outside all day in order to burn, so this is weird to constantly be worrying about the sun. Oh I do wear sunscreen btw.) But I HATE oily skin. Like beyond belief! I used to take 2-3 showers a day depending on how oily I got. (I used to be a theatre major before my son was born and so sweating and oil was a big problem) I've never been happy with any of the lotions that I've used. Today the second we got home from our outing O had to have a bath to get the sunscreen off in order for me to touch him anymore. I too had to have a shower to get the stuff off. Do you have any suggestions??

What can I do next?

I am satisfied with the oiliness of Water Babies. I like the sunscreen lotion spray (more of a spritz). The kids think it's funny for me to spray it on them.

I'm a redhead so I have tried them all. Ninety-nine percent that say they're not greasy are. The only one I've found that really does dry nicely is made by Banana Boat and it's called Dri Block (not the main product name, but it's on the front label). They have child and adult versions that are basically the same thing. The only bummer is that it only goes up to SPF 30. But it's dry. You don't walk around feeling like you rolled around in bacon grease. I'm with you on hating the feeling of sunblock. I've dealt with the ickiness since I was a kid. I have to wear sunblock much of the year and it's a drag.
ETA: It became hard to find in stores last year (not sure why), so if you don't see it locally, try Drugstore.com. I stocked up with them last year.

the new sunscreen line from Neutrogena all the way! Not as cheap as water babies but well worth the extra couple dollars. I have been super happy with it. I use it for our whole family now. It has the high spf's you want but without all the grease, try it out!

Ok i'm not a redhead but I pretty much glow in the dark. I like neutrogena SPF 70, but I am unsure if you can use it on children. If i'm in the sun for more then 20 minutes without sunblock I burn to a crisp. I have had my share of second degree sunburns and this stuff works great for me!

You could try a hat and an umbrella. It's not practical every where, but ways to provide shade can help a lot.

You can get a SPF50+ scrip from a dermatologist that is non-oily. Ever since my father's first round of skin cancer he's been getting it (figuratively) by the gallon. He shares it with my readheaded husband, who it's next to impossible to keep sunscreen on.... because he HATES how most sunscreens feel. But this one is oil free.

A tip though: Don't forget "rash-guards". They're what surfers and divers wear under their wetsuits. And they cost a fraction of what "sun shirts" cost. Like a swimsuit, they're supposed to be skin tight, and not baggy. Whenever DH and I are somewhere sunny, he brings along several of them and just wears them under his clothes. Because they're skintight but breathable, he actually stays cooler in them. To add insult to injury... he'll pour water over them and then stay REALLY cool. And like all clothes... they block out the sun. Most of the time he'll just wear the longsleeved shirt and put lotion on his legs... but with a wee one, the full body suit/2 pieces would probably work best.

I'm with you! I have oily skin anyway, so I hate anything that makes it worse.

I use Mary Kay sunscreen. For the face, they have a Day Solution that is SPF 30 and has other anti-agers (it's meant for daily use and lasts 3-6 months for a bottle). For body, they have SPF30 sunscreen that is not greasy. It's worked well for me (better than the higher SPF stuff many times, without using as much). It costs more than the grocery store stuff, but it's definitely worth it for me.

Go to www.marykay.com to find a consultant. Just enter your zip and they'll link you with a GOOD consultant in your area.

Bull frog dries really fast and isn't oily. I use the spray (though I don't think it works as well as the cream) on my daughter because she SCREAMS if I put sun lotion on her. They have a gel too that dries instantly, but leaves a weird residue on the skin.

I don't have any problems with Walmarts No Ad sunscreen... i'm as white as the come, and I never burn with even their 15 SPF. They have 30 and 45 also.

Arbonne is all I use. I have done some research and know that if you use a sunscreen over an SPF 30 you are just more likely to get a chemical burn as to a sunburn! Plus with Arbonne you know it is PURE, SAFE and BENEFICIAL. All products are made from botanicals and they work. And they are not oily! Contact me if you have questions.
