Hi lovely Moms out there. My pharmacy continues to challenge me on this issue every month that I order my case of formula. I continue to recieve the Alimentum Advance and send it back requesting the other one since my daughter has been on the Alimentum w/ iron for the last 3 months and it has helped her tremendously.
Even the packaging is different. Does anyone know for sure?
My child is under 12 m and she is finally not spitting up or uncomfortable and of course I'm worried that giving her the Alimentum Advance (which is supposedly the same thing- according to the pharamacy employees) will have an adverse affect on her sensitive little belly. And if in fact you know the answer can you sendme a link that I could show as an example for the pharmacy.

My daughter used alimentum also but we only had the regular with iron. She's over 1 now so maybe they changed something since then...I would check with your pediatrician. Alimentum was the only formula little Lena could hold down, it was more $$ but definitely worth it. Just so you know, she did fine with the cow's milk after her first birthday, so hopefully your little one will be OK too.

I'm sure you already know this, but the alimentum is usually covered by most insurances. You may have to fight them on it, but they should cover it in full with a doctors letter. Two of my boys were on it and each time I had different insurance coverage. One time I had Harvard Pilgrim and the other was Blue Cross Blue Shield. Harvard Pilgrim was easy to deal with and I just had to pick it up at Walgreens every month. Blue Cross was very tough and not very willing to give out info. I finally had it covered through my "durable medical benefits" through Blue Cross. This time I had to go through a medical supply company which was very difficult to find. I ended up going through Apria Healthcare (I think they are out of Wilmington). Instead of going to the pharmacy, UPS delivered it once a month. Both insurances it was free. If this doesn't help you maybe it will help someone else who may read. Alimentum is extremely expensive...can't imagine having to pay out of pocket! Good luck. Colic and reflux is not fun!! I've been there!
The exact same thing happen to me. When my son was first born the pharmacy gave me Alimentum w/ iron and then a few months later they gave me Alimentum Advanced. When I questioned them on it they told me that the label changed. Of course that didn't satisfy me either so I took a can of powdered Alimentum w/ Iron and a can powdered Alimentum Advanced side by side and compared the nutrients, vitamins, minerals and ingredients. They were the same. If you want to compare just make sure you compare the same thing, a powdered to powdered, or ready to feed to a ready to feed. The powdered to ready to feed in either label are different. Hope this helps you.
I believe the only difference is the Alimentum Advance has DHA and ARA lipid protiens. It also has the iron in it.
My neighbor is a manager for this company. I also use to work for them in a different division. They threw me for a loop as well when they changed their packaging. According to him, the formula is the exact same just a different label. Here is the website

I do wonder though why you are using Alimentun. I was always under the impression it was for extreme food allergies. It is so expensive. My son was colicy as well as lactose intolerant. I used the Isomil Advance then was able to switch him over to regular formula.
Also a little tip for you...Abbott Laboratories (the manufacturer) produces all the Kirkland brand formula for Costco. It is the exact same recipe.

I have not known the Alimentum to come without Iron. My son is on it and we buy it from babies r us. I found it is the cheapest there. Anyways, we also add vitamins with iron to his formula that allready contains iron. I would be surprised if the alimentum did not come with iron. It should be indicated on the label.
