ok ladies, to all you cosmotologists out there...i have an issue. once upon a time i decided to go with the cheap shampoo suave after using tres emme for YEARS to help save money...i cleaned walmart's shelf off (literally) i'm just now running out of supply using suave shampoo bought about a years worth (finishing off what i bought) and using tres emme condt. while using suave, i noticed i was having to wash my hair more (every other day-itched bad if i didn't by the end of the second day) and now i have sores on my scalp! i don't scratch my scalp when washing my hair, but massage it vigirously and maybe an occasional scratch...the sores are starting to be come bigger and i'm getting more of them?? i've left the condt in my hair much longer, bought a leave in condt to try in addition to the condt i use in the shower...i have no clue how to get rid of them, then i feel nasty because as they flake off and heal up, i itch and it looks like i have freaking lice (yes i've had my husband check for that and no signs of nits or the bug)...i don't know

What can I do next?

I am not a cosmo - but in general I have tried mucho hair products and I don't care for the Suave products at all - b/c, guess what, they made my scalp dry and itchy. Probably not a coincidence. Loved all the different smells though, so I'll use it as a body wash, but not on my hair anymore. It's a cheap product for a reason, made with lots of chemicals.

That sounds a lot like what I have. At one point after I was pregnant, I had Psoriasis, mainly on my scalp. Went to the doc's, gave me some meds, tried some, it never really went away. Over time I was just trying to deal with it, using Tgel, head and Shoulders, etc, nothing really working. I looked stuff up online to find natural remedies, this is what I found and will work for whatever it is that you have; you take a squirt or spray bottle and put 1 parts Apple cider Vinegar to four parts water. I eventually found out that I had Sebhoreac Dermatitus sp?. If you put this Apple Cider Vinegar mixture on your scalp after you shower/wash your hair, it helps to nutralize the ph balance of your skin. It made the itching stop almost right away and the flaking/sore's go away soon after.
However, I did also have a dermatologist appointment set up prior to finding this natural remedy. When I went she did prescribe me some meds, but I don't like to take meds forever so I will take a break from them once in a while and go the Apple Cider Vinegar route. Hope this helps.

It sounds like you are allergic to the suave I would stop using it and go back to your old shampoo or try another inexpensive brand maybe you should go to the doctor and they can prescribe a shampoo to help heal the sores I used white rain shampoo and it did it to me made me break out. It was very uncomfortable .now I use aussie shampoo its in a purple bottle they are 6 dollars they have conditioner and leave ins you might try using a gentle baby shampoo for awhile to see if that helps. One thing I don't buy generic is my shampoo I told my husband we can use generic food but not shampoo some has lots of alcohol in them. And that's not good for your hair

I have problems with most shampoos. I have switched over to strictly salon brands (Paul Mitchel, Biolage, Matrix, etc.) I get them from JCPenney and they are ALWAYS on sale for the liters. So I need new about every other month. I figure it I am spending $10 a month of my shampoo and conditioner, I'm okay with that :o).

unless you NEED a leave in conditioner for dry hair, you don't need to use that regularly. Sounds like you might be having build up from too many products that you're leaving on your scalp. I wouldn't use a "leave in" anything unless you wash hair daily.

It happens to me when I switch. Several years ago I went to a dermatologist and I was told it was an allergic reaction to something in the shampoo. The advice I got was not to switch shampoos. So I stick with what works.

could it be ringworm? My daughter just had that and it did look like a big flaky sore.

It sounds like seborrheic dermatitis. Switching shampoos might help for awhile but eventually it comes back and then you have to try something else. It tends to get worse in the winter. When I have a flair up I dissolve a few un-coated aspirin in the little bit of shampoo I use to wash my hair. I'll let it sit as long as I can then rinse and condition normally.

I am a licensed cosmetologist and it sounds like you have a really dry scalp. Conditioners aren't going to help as they are for the hair and not your scalp. You need to buy a shampoo and cond that is going to moisturize your hair and SCALP. THROW OUT THE CHEAP STUFF!!! I'm all about saving money, but when it comes to your hair and scalp, take care of it, spurge a little!!!
Check out AVEDA hair products, they are amazing and will not dry out your scalp or hair! Yes they cost a little more, but its worth it!!! 2 to recommend: Dry Remedy and Scalp Benfits Balancing ! Look into them, they are amazing!!
Good luck and seriously, throw out the suave!!!
