I have twin 4 week old twins and was wondering if it is safe to paint in the house. I am wanting to paint a small area and my bedroom, however don't know if the smell would be too much for them. Anyone have any thoughts?

What can I do next?

At Home Depot, they sell a low odor paint. If you use that and keep the area well ventilated, there shouldn't be a problem.

The new latex paints are completely safe for newborns. They don't smell bad like the old oil-based paints did, and don't emit toxic vapors. Go for it!! Kudos to you if you already feel well enough to paint!! I had 9 children and I wasn't back to the swing of things for about 8 weeks. Twins must be twice as exhausting. I'm proud of you.

Hi V.,

Painting in your house using traditional paint would be very dangerous to your little ones. The solvants they would breathe would be very harmful to not only them but to you too.

I am told that "green" paints can easily be found nowadays in stores like Home Depot or Lowes.

Just ask at the store for a safe, environmentally friendly paint that is odorless and not full of dangerous chemicals.

All the best and congratulation for your new babies!!

If you are painting in your home you should keep your children out of the house for at least two full days after painting. Leave windows open and fans on to air it out. If it's their room you are painting I would wait at the least 3 days before exposing them to their bedroom. We painted my son's room and waited three full days after completing the paint job. We judged by leaving the house for a few hours and then came back. When the room wasn't very strong anymore we decided it would be okay. It was and he's fine to this day. Lol... Good Luck on makin your house beautiful and keeping your twins healthy. :)

I would not advise that you use any type of paint in your home at this time. Since you do not know if your children are latex sensitive or asthmatic, it is best not to introduce fumes of any sort.

If you are set on doing this, you need to contact their doctor beforehand.
