Wait, what? Are you serious? I LOVE that my daughter (12) wears sweat pants to school. When I walk in her award ceremonies and see the skimpy stuff other kids are wearing, I am more than okay with her comfy clothing choice for school.

Why would it not be ok to wear sweat pants to school? Unless she goes to a private school and needs to wear a uniform I don't see any reason not to wear sweat pants. My boys wear sweat pants on a regular basis. When they aren't in sweatpants they wear jeans. Rarely do they dress up for school.

As long as the sweat pants aren't skin tight or showing off every curve or violating the school dress code policy, I see nothing wrong with it.
In high school and college I pretty much lived in sweats and jeans.

I have a rule that if sweatpants are worn to school they must not have holes or stains. Other then that I see no issue with it, why not be comfortable?

My daughter wore a uniform from k-8th. Now she goes to a public high school and literally has worn pajama bottoms and a t-shirt every day to school for the last 2 years. At first I cared then I figured if the school didn't care and she's getting good grades and stays out of trouble then I'm ok with it too. So yes, as long as the school allows it and she's happy then it's all good in my opinion.

Updated: You don't say why you disagree - or why you think it's wrong. I would think the only wrong thing to wear to school would be something that's not allowed by the school conduct code.
My kids wear athletic pants, sweat pants, and leggings to school, as well as jeans and khakis. All of them have their place on certain days, and depending on what they feel like wearing.
If this is because you feel they are inappropriate, too casual, etc. maybe explain further. Clothing involves personal taste, but as far as being appropriate, my kids' sweatpants are. Most of the school wears them so I've never given it any thought.

I don't understand.

What is usual at the school? Do only tomboys wear them? How old are you or your daughter? (Depending on which one of you wrote the post...)

If the other girls are wearing them, why not? It's not like they are revealing.

Most kids here wear athletic clothing to school all the time. I see nothing wrong with it. I see girls in leggings, track pants, and sweat pants and wearing athletic tops, fleece jackets, etc. Maybe where you live this isn't the style?

I love to be comfortable and am never in to fashion. If I could wear sweatpants to work I would, so I can't see making my kids wear anything less comfortable. That being said I know other people feel that you dress the part, so if you're taking school seriously you dress somewhat professionally. At my kids' school (public charter) they can't wear "athletic clothing" like basketball shorts and sweats. Or maybe you're wondering about style- like she'll be made fun of. That depends on age and her ability to gauge social situations.

I think if she's cold and wants her legs to be warm it's perfectly find to wear sweat pants. If she goes to a private school that has a uniform where she has to wear skirts then I think you need to invest in some fleece lined tights. We got our granddaughter several pairs of heavy heavy tights at Rue 21 on sale. They also have leggings, joggers, etc...that can be worn under jeans or pants.

I would care if she was warm enough first then worry about fashion issues after that.

I assume you are the daughter.

Whatever Mom and the school say she can wear is the only answer that matters.

My own children would not have been allowed to wear sweats to school, either by me or by the school.

As long as it doesn't conflict with school dress code, I let my kids choose their own clothes. Right now, that means a lot of sweat pants and hoodies.

Like someone else below, I also suspect you're the daughter in this scenario...Feel free to set us straight if you're not. It would be good to have more details, like your age-- I mean, your daughter's age and grade and whether this is even allowed by the school.

Our public middle school and high school both ban the wearing of pajama pants at school by either girls or boys. I'm glad. And to me, sweatpants are just as casual and sloppy as wearing pajama bottoms in public. I've heard that some schools around us actually do prohibit the wearing of sweatpants except during gym class.

Find out what your school allows. If there's no ban on sweatpants, it's permitted -- but still looks sloppy and gives an uncaring appearance that you can't be bothered to dress even in jeans. And jeans are as casual as it gets, with my teen daughter.

There are fancy sweat pants and sweatpants that are worn around the house. My dd has sweatpants that are quite decorative with embroidery and sequins. Personally, I think kids should dress a bit more nicely at school. I think Jeans are fine, but I think the non decorative sweatpants should be left at home.

Depends on the dress code of her school. My personal opinion is "why not?". Boys wear sweatpants all the time. Why can't girls?

I'm curious as to why you think it's wrong for a girl to wear sweatpants to school. No judging, just simply curious.

my childs school has a uniform. when i was in school i had a dress code, girls had to wear skirts. boys dress pants. no denim on tuesdays. and on the frigid winter days when you could make ice in the windowsill of the classrooms we would wear sweatpants under our dresses to keep warm. ( the dean of women always made us take them off because they were violation of dresscode)
if my child were allowed to wear sweats i would let them.

How old is she? My elementary aged daughter wears them on days she has PE...I have found cute ones that are stylish and comfy with nice matching cotton shirts.

Middle school here is no issue because they are against dress code.

High school....I personally think unless that are stylish and designed to be worn for other than exercise...no they should be kept to PE and sports wear only and not school wear. But then again I don't have a high school-er and by then they may be all the rage and super trendy...then I might change my mind.
