My daughter's birthday falls on a Friday. Half of my family will be at a graduation party on Saturday. Is it ok to have her party on Sunday afternoon?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ok, thank you everyone!! My daughter will be 2. I did consider the weekend before or after but my parents will be on vacation the weekend before and have a prior commitment the weekend after. They are very close with my children so it would break their hearts to have it and them not be there! I don't know why I thought it wasn't ok to have it on Sunday, I guess just most of the parties that I've had and have been to have been on Saturday's! But I'll try it on a Sunday this year and see what happens, lol! Thanks again for all of your responses!

I don't see why not. I just took my son to a birthday party this past Sunday afternoon and it appeared as if everyone invited showed up. They had a blast too.

Often Sunday is the only family time my cousins have so both their daughters had parties on Sunday. Just don't run it too long and it will be fine.

My friend just had her child's birthday party on a Sunday evening - thinking there would be a lot of declines because of the whole school factor. Nearly everyone attended with the parents saying that yes, it was an odd time for a birthday, however, due to the odd time, it didn't conflict with anything else and they were able to make it.

Perfectly fine.
(As long as you're not in Ohio, where it is illegal to have a birthday party on any other day than your actual birth date or the day after---NOT!!!)

I did! My son's birthday was on a Sunday, and Saturday was pretty busy so it worked out better for everyone to have it Sunday afternoon anyways.

Personally I see no problem with it, however due to Church obligations for many and it is a "school night" I would be very careful on the timing and make sure it is 2-5. I also would serve a good meal at the party too.

We usually have bdays on Sunday because half of our friends are Jewish, and several are Muslim, and most play sports. Which cx's Fri & Sat

Both J&I have whole day issues. Christianity, however, is usually just the morning...

Saturday afyernoons also get cjocablock with sports games.

So Sunday afternoon it is!

It's fine we do it all the time because Saturday is my husband's busiest day for work. Sometimes it actually works out better because people usually have plans on Saturday anyway.

Sunday, sure why not? Unless there are extremly religious family members/friends in your circle, I don't see a problem. If Sunday rituals are an issue, how about holding her birthday on the Saturday before or after her birthday?

I think Sunday's are the best day of the weekend. So many people have things going on or catching up from the week that they are busy on Saturdays.

Just make sure its afternoon so it doesn't interfere with church... but not to late as it is a school night.

Have fun!

I think it's fine. A birthday party is once a year and I'd hope that if people were busy they'd be willing to make an exception.

I'd almost prefer a Sunday party, personally. Saturday is usually the day we have "plans".

Sunday birthdays are fine for kids so young. I did it many times.
Sunday parties are perfect when it's mostly about family and you're not worried about kids getting too overstimulated or sugared up that they need an extra day to wind down.

My grandson turned 1 last Saturday and we had a lovely gathering. He turned ONE. It wouldn't have made a difference to him which day of the week the party was and it just so happened everyone could actually gather that day.
When they're that little, you have the party when the important people in their life can attend.

Best wishes!

First, to answer your question, yes, by all means a Sunday is perfectly fine. Plus, there have been many times I'll have a party for my children a week, or even two weeks later/earlier so everyone will be there.

As for planning, this is my thinking: I start with the most important people to see if they will be available. If they are, then that's the date of the party! I would send out the invitations and whether the others could make it or not was their problem, not mine! My parents were my first concern; they were very close to my children and it would have broken hearts for all if they couldn't be there. My in-laws would show up once in awhile; I really didn't care, neither did my children. Let's just say, my in-laws are a piece of work!!

Good luck!!!

Most of my kids birthday parties are on Sundays because of tball and softball games. Sometimes it's easier. If it works for you, then it's ok. Just as long as it's not during the week ;-)

We usually have our birthday parties on Sundays because a few of our fav family members work on Saturdays. Plus, it gives me Saturday to bake and decorate the cake and do any food prep.

Party for kids or family and how old is she? If it's for family (because your family is busy) definitely yes it's fine. Kids are a little trickier since Sundays are often family days.
