Hi ladies! I am having a hard time reaching the bikini area for shaving in the shower. I thought I would try bikini waxing...does anyone know...is this ok during pregnancy??

What can I do next?

It's fine. You might be more sensitive so if you are ok with this, take a couple of tylenol before you go to make it more comfortable.

My skin has a hellish response to razors, (but not waxing) so I've been waxing for years and years, including while I was pregnant.

3 things to know:

1) Your skin (or rather the nerves attached to your skin) is more sensitive when you're pms-ing, on your period, or pregnant...so it'll hurt a little bit more. Course, the whole process only hurts for a minute or two anyway. (Probably not an issue for you right now, but also avoid waxing while taking antibiotics or decongestants, and wait at least 24 hours before going tanning.)

2) Wait about 6 hours and then clean the area with witchhazel or plain old soap & h20 in the shower. They use an oily kind of aloe thing right after the procedure that helps your skin out, but you don't want to leave it on too long, or the pores get a little clogged up.

3) Aftercare : I've found it's best to keep clean (duh), and babywipes are great. Also, if you get a loofa for when you start itching (when the hair starts growing back), using it once or twice makes it so you don't get any ingrown hairs.

wheeeee.

Of course if you wax regularly you already know all of this. But I did wax while pregnant, and as a case basis, the only ill effect was that it stung a little bit more.

i hear you. i had my bikini and my legs done twice during my pregnancy and there were no negative effects. i went to amber at zenana spa...geared toward pregnant and new mothers. it's a really great place and you won't feel funny getting waxed with a big ol' belly!

I don't see why not. It's not bothering your baby in anyway, just your skin.

Hi N.,
I don't know if is okay but I wouldn't do it. In normal circumstances is painful beyond belief and during pregnancy even more so as I noticed when I was waxing my legs, probably due to the increased blood circulation. Either ask your partner or a very, very good friend to help you with the shaving. I did not do it while pregnant, I went for the low line panties even for my bikini :-)

Hi - I waxed when I was pregnant and it was fine. It does hurt more and I always washed up at home afterward to get the oily stuff off they put on, but otherwise I was fine with it. You may want to talk to your OB just to make sure but I had no issues.

I did it when I was pregnant and there was no problem. But with MRSA out in the world I would be more hesitant.

I waxed thru my whole pregnancy. I actually had a wax the same day I delivered, but I didnt know I would be delivering that day. I had an emergency c-section due to pre-clampsia. At least it saved me from getting shaved for the surgery! LOL....
I think it is fine, but check with your doctor if you are nervous.

If you do decide to do it... Get a live aloe plant, break off part of the leaf and use the gel to soothe the area. Because it's natural, it won't clog the pores. Wear underwear you don't care about when you use it, as it may stain. Aloe will also help with the healing.

And eeeew... Nair is nasty! It's loaded with chemicals, so can give you irritation and burning. Not a good place to be burning, especially if you get some you-know-where.

Good Morning N.. I would talk with your OB before any waxing and ask her opinion. But I have read in several sources that it is not recommended. As during pregnancy your blood vessels are closer to the surface and can be more painful and possible bleeding. Now don't quote me on that some people may have waxed during pregnacny and been fine. But I had read that in seeral sources so check with your OB or OB nurse. Good Luck and Congrats on your new addition.

Hi N.,
It's fine to wax during pregnancy, but your skin will be more sensitive, sort of like it is just before you get your peroid.
Best,

I'm sorry but hahaha! things get harder and harder...I remember I had to relearn how to do certain(ahem!) things right before birth...It may be gross but man the body shape of pregnancy can really complicate things.
I fully contribute a leg waxing experience near my due date to inducing me because man that hurts! I am not so sure in the bikini area but some women like it cleaner down there before birth. You know the blood flow after birth really sticks to everything and it can be easier to keep clean with less hair. I would check with my doc what is better shaving or waxing or some other method of hair removal.

Hi N., I continued to get bikini waxes up until I delivered. Towards the end of my pregnancy though it would get more and more difficult to lay flat on my back and have it done. Luckily the gal I see is quick and I was not on my back too long. I checked with my OBGyn and he said it was fine so long as I wasn't uncomfortable.
If you are interested, I see a gal named Hope over at Gene Juarez in Redmond ###-###-####. Very nice lady! And is a hoot to talk to.

Congrats on your new addition,
J.

Yes, I did wax until I was about 5 months pregnant but my skin was more sensitive than normal so I ended up stopping at that point but my waxing lady told me that she gets a lot of pregnant women the whole time so it will just depend on your pain tolerance. Good luck :)

Hi N.,
I am a mother of three and had my bikini waxed during all of my pregnancies. You may be a bit more sensitive or bruise but it is worth it.
