Unicare is Ok but if you have a pre existing condition it will not cover. I work for Ameriplan USA and they do cover Pre exisitng conditions, over weight, smokers, diabetics, stroke and heart patients. They are a discount plan so the monthly payment are very very affordable.

Please call me for more information.

We have had it for severl years no-no compaints. It was by far the best price. I have not had trouble at all with doctors not accepting it. I checked with ours before choosing and they said thay pay quickly.

Elaine,
I would steer clear of Unicare if you have the choice. It is the only insurance that my husband's company offers and we HATE it! Not only are they not accepted everywhere, but there is a cap on the amount of prescriptions that they cover. If any of your kiddos need any kind of long term medication, eg nebulizers, antihistamines, etc, you will end up paying as if you had no coverage at all in just a few months. They also do not have very good customer service. We had to take my husband to the ER in November and I was very aware of the fact that hospitals are picky about what insurance they take and what they don't, so on a Sunday evening I called Unicare to see if Centennial was in network and no one was there. There wasn't even an automated system. They are making us pay out of pocket for most of this expense just because I couldn't get ahold of anyone. I worked in Healthcare for a long time, so I'm fairly educated on insurances and after having it for nearly a year, I have to say this is by far the worst! Sorry if this is too long, but I'm obviously very passionate about this subject and would hate for anyone else to be in the same boat we are!

We had unicare for my boys but then dropped them when they would not insure the rest of the family on one policy. They wanted me to jump thourh hoops and I just was not up for that. They paid the claims that we had in a timely fassion for the Dr. visits that we had. I have heard that they do not have a good rep when it comes to working with Dr.s so I would check that out more.

My older two daughters are on unicare and so far it has been a pretty good plan. I would recommend it if the doctors and hospitals in your area will accept it. Check thru a local insurance salesman to see if you can get signed up thru them, if not go ahead and call the company. My girls have been on the plan since last simmer and we have had no complaints.

I have my kids on Unicare. My oldest never uses it. But, I have a 16 month old and I wanted it for the well-baby visits. It works, but be mindful that there are many different plans. If you wind up needing surgery or something, you could pay a ton to satisfy the deductible. But, it's a great alternative for me. My company charges over $300 a month for my kids and I only pay Unicare $94 a month.

Unicare is okay unless you have any pre-existing conditions.

I just switched from Blue Cross to Unicare because Blue Cross kept raising thier rates. I have not used them yet, so I have no idea if they are any good or not, but I did speak to several people who use them and they said they have never had any problems (other than typical insurance problems - you know what a pain Ins Co's can sometimes be!!). I know that isn't a whole lot of info.....but I hope it helps some! And the way I see it, just because it's not a name that's been around forever doesn't mean it's not worth trying! You can always switch if you aren't satisfied! Good luck!!

My husband and son are with Unicare and we like it. $177/month for them both and only $30 co-pays and a $2000 deductible. Never had any problems with doctors not accepting it and they always seem to pay promptly. We are very pleased. As stated below, you must be very careful about the plan that you choose. Usually if you have a low monthly payment, you will have a higher deductible.
Good luck.

I have been with Unicare for almost 2 years now - and have used them only twice -- but both times I have had no problems with the company. They have paid promptly and the percentage they agreed to pay at....
I have heard some negative things about them from others - but I have not experienced any of that....
Hope this helps...

Unicare was a horrible experience for me. I had a PPO, which means you have a co-pay and then a deductible for any other non-well care visits or procedures. Or, so I thought. I went for my annual visit and had to pay it in full! I called Unicare and they told me, no, you have a co pay, but the remainder of the bill was to be applied to the deductible, then they would pay the rest. Well, my deductible was $2000. I asked them when they changed their policy, they said they had changed it a few months before. I asked them when they were going to inform their customers. The woman said that they were in the process of doing that. WOW. I hate to think of how many people had emergency situations and got saddled with a lot more than they were expecting out of pocket. I say steer clear of them, even though they are cheap. There is a reason for it.

I've been on Unicare for years- no maternity coverage, but other than that fine. What I really liked is that they pay for immunizations up to age 6 no matter what plan you have and regardless of deductable.

I HATE Unicare. They lure you in with their low rates, and your premium goes up every three months. My husband has to have insurance on his daughter, and this is all we could afford. It started out at $81.00 every three months and it is now at $275 every three months. That may not seem too high, but the coverage has not changed at all, the cost just keeps going up. I would stay as far away from that insurance as possible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard that not too many physicians take Unicare anymore because it doesn't pay. I know my kids' pediatrician doesn't take it and I called around a few places and they didn't take it either. You may want to check with your doctor first to make sure they accept it.
