Is Anyone Versed on Paternity Laws, Specific to Michigan?

Mother claims that the child may not be my nephews but refuses to get a paternity test. She claims she just wants him out of hers and the baby's life. He really wants to be in the baby's life if it's his. I would hope that the father has rights too. He is not looking to take the kid away from the mom. He just wants a relationship with the kid.

Can a test be legally demanded?

TIA

What can I do next?

I believe it can.

I googled "how to file for a Voluntary Affidavit of Paternity in Michigan" and this is what I found.

However, he will never know unless he tries. I think he should CALL his local county's family court with a specific question. At least, that's what I would do. As long as he understands it is a monumental lifetime financial and emotional commitment, not just cuz he's mad at his gf.

He should file a Paternity action. If she contests the paternity, then the court will order a paternity test. Fathers do have rights.

I want to say yes, but I'm not 100%. He can get an attorney and ask them to file her a paternity test. If the child turnedout to be his then he is probably going to end up paying support and going through visitation things

If she is receiving any assistance at all through the state he can call and say he thinks he might be that child's father and that he's offered child support and she is not allowing him to pay child support....that will get them in his corner...

YES! And he should march his butt down to the friend of the court and File a paternity suit. Or (best case scenario) get a lawyer to help.
Do it SOON before the DHS (I can only assume she is on food stamps and state assistance) files an affidavit of parentage.
It can be very confusing and frustrating, but he should be vigilant. What matters more than these babies?
I'm on the other end of this-I work and my kids dad was on assistance. The state actually wanted me to pay him child support! But I spent a great amount of time at friend of the court and had the situation corrected.
