Ok, so my vaccuum cleaner died. I need to get a new one but wow....there are so many out there. I have white carpet which I get professionally cleaned every six month, no one is allowed to eat on the carpet and I don't have pets. Can anyone recommend a vaccuum cleaner? Does anyone have a vaccuum they absolutely love? Thank you.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow....It is tied between Kirby, Oreck and Dyson. I will buy one of them, I'll have to find more feedback before I do so. Thank you all so much.

Hi F.,

I can honestly say I'm IN LOVE with my vaccuum!! It's a dyson and it is a dream!! My parents bought it for me for Christmas last year and I hope I never have to go back to another vaccuum. Prior to that I just had a standard upright vaccuum and I swear on my life I got blisters everytime I had to vaccuum and it didn't even do a great job. This is FANTASTIC!! It moves so easily and swivels and picks up everything. Its so easy to maintain.

If you don't mind forking out some extra bucks, you won't be sorry!!

Good luck!!

I got a Dyson Ball last summer and love it BUT it does not get under furniture well because of the bulk of the ball. It is lightweight though and easy enough for a child to get out and use. My puny 8 yr old daughter can even carry it up the stairs :)

My mom and grandparents always had Rainbow vacuums. They use a bowl of water instead of a filter. The dust and yuck sticks to the water. You can also just sit it running in the middle of the room and it will act as an air purifier (temporarily- like 10 minutes or so) to pull out the extra dust from the air if you are cleaning drapes, etc. You can also add scents to the water if you like that sort of thing. They are really expensive but sometimes you can get refurbished ones with warranties and my grandmother's is still running and is probably 40 years old or more.

Hi F.,
I love my Kirby! My husband thought I was crazy to spend that kind of money on a vaccum but it works great and never (knock on wood) had any type of problem after 10 years!
Good Luck on your search!

Several years ago I bought the only thing I've ever bought off of the tv, an OREK vaccuum. I was familiar with them from when I worked in a hotel. They are AWESOME. It's a simple design so it never gets clogged. It goes from floors to carpets without adjustments. It also lays almost completely flat to get under furniture. Check and see if there's a store near you. You have to go to their store or website to buy bags but their service is awesome. It is very light weight. I think it only weighs 8 pounds without a full bag so it's great for going up and down stairs. It also has a really long cord. One downside is that the one I have doesn't have the option of attachments so when I got mine from the TV deal they threw in a hand held vaccuum with attachments. I've found it very useful and easier on stairs and in my cars than hauling a huge vaccuum. Most importantly it does a great job and leaves my carpet looking great. They have various models so check it out!

I love, love, love my vacuum. Yes, I felt like it was an insane purchase. My good friend and one of my neighbors has one and I had vacuum envy because they both talked about their wonderful vacuums! (the neighbor's vacuum is 9 years old and my friends is 4 years old.)

With two children and a dog that doesn't shed, I was still averaging a new vacuum every 3 years. I've had Sharp w/ bag (easy enough/not great) hoover windtunnel (w/bag).. pretty good; Hoover windtunnel / bagless (absolutely the worst vacuum I ever owned - and it cost almost $470! Lost suction very quickly! I was constantly dumping the canister. Why did I want to keep handling the dirt? It's my biggest problem with bagless.)

Considered Dyson and have heard wonderful things about it, but again, I didn't want to go through the bagless thing again.

Just for kicks - Kirby called me and offered to vacuum/shampoo 2 rooms. I accepted their offer. I wasn't wild about the weight - it's heavy - 25#. Nor did I want the shampoor - seemed cumbersome. Also, had to adjust to adding / removing attachments. Also I need to vacuum at least 20 stairs, with ease.

I bought a Kirby!!!! No, it wasn't a hardsell - the guy even left the vacuum overnight and I vacuumed every square inch of my home, including drapery and blinds - using a special attachment, before he returned the next day. Added longer hose - comes with Hepa filter bags. When I have company, I can even blow up air mattresses with this thing because it acts as an air compressor. Did not get the shampooer feature and that saved me money. No longer do I watch dust stream through the sunlight in my home - something that I just accepted. It is AMAZING!!!!!! I use it on hardwood, on tile, and three different carpets (berber, dark colored low pile and frieze carpets). It's been well over a year and it works as good as new!
